Monster Hunter had a china-exclusive MMO that was somewhat popular in the west for a while, because some people made an english patch for it and pretty much everyone wanted Monster Hunter on PC (without emulating a PSP game) at that time. Then eventually its devs started encrypting all of the game's files so patching it became impossible and it lost almost all of its non-chinese playerbase. That's all I can think of.
