Okay, what is this really?
There is two people per team, a healer and a boxer. Neither are allowed any outside or external means of healing or energy regeneration. Nor is either allowed to meditate. You lose if you are knocked down three times in a row, or if the opposing person knocks you down a total of six times. The other way around is how you win, obviously.
What are the rules?
- Fists only. No ki, no grappling for longer than 3 seconds, no flying. No lunges either (autoattack only.) NO MEDITATING AT ALL IN A MATCH
- It's the after-life. Cyber memes are not expected, nor allowed. Boxers must be dead. Healers must be alive.
- You are not allowed to touch your opponent while they're unconscious. Unconscious means knockout. Unconscious fighters are to be brought to the sidelines for recovery. Again, remember that meditating is not allowed.
- Ring-outs are considered a automatic forfeit. Being teleported against your will is considered a automatic draw and the match will be rescheduled.
- Upon winning the tournament, the fighter will receive the 30 million resource reward and Limit Break from Kai Kaiman. Second place will receive 15 million, and third place will receive 7.5 million.
- If you violate any of these rules, it's considered a forfeit. The only exceptions will be the first rule, and the third rule. In those cases, the round will be ruled in the opponent's favor.
- Upon joining, you may be asked to wear armor. This is to increase the durability of fighters joining, and all armor will be allowed to be customized by fighters. A durability of high is the minimum recommended stat.
- You don't need a actual healing sponsor, but it's recommended. Kai's and Demons are recommended for this role because they are living.
- Outside intervention of any kind is considered a forfeit of both competitors immediately. Proof of outside intervention's intent will affect this.
After-Box is planned to take place on 7/13, at 6:00 PST, or 9:00 EST.

What the fuck is this?
Unique Zeta is basically two zeta games that I found to be very different from the rest. One has Super Saiyan fucking 15 and every form in between, the other has a really neat turnbased combat system and other neat frameworks.
Zeta2 is basically the 'tism child of nearly everything except what we see today. It sucked, so it died. I don't recommend using this source except the ones from UniqueZeta, but you might be able to steal code snippits.
Mystic/Majin is THE thing that really started everything. Made in 2002, quality matches that.
Finale is what we'd use. It's by far the most up to date, it's features rival our own current version, and etc. We'd have to re-add godki, and tweak/remove a lot of shit, along with updating the movement code, but it'd be worth it, especially since Ten's implementations are shit anyway. This codebase is very similar to RPT, except it does not have magic related things. Easily fixable.

Cheesiest stats are Strength, Recovery, and Reflex.
Strength scales indefinitely so if you minmax for it and keep decent Accuracy, you'll hit like a fucking truck, and you can multiply it with swords and such which puts it over the edge.
Recovery affects energy regen time but also boost speed and a bunch of hidden factors, so it can actually be pretty ridiculous when in an appropriate Energy build. Very important for people trying to abuse ridiculous BP mods, like Majin.
Reflex blocks the fuck out of everything. While it caps off, a very high reflex means you're at/near the limit for everyone who doesn't go 9 gorillion Accuracy.
The most common meme build is high force, very high accuracy, and extreme reflex.

Dragonball Byond games are the easiest to understand in general and follow mostly the same gameplay loop. Here are the absolute bare necessities for DU:

>You can "Say", "Emote", and "OOC", which go to self explanatory chat options.
>Combat involves dodging beams and blasts to get close enough to punch your target, or to return fire with your own. It's for roleplay purposes, but also has an effect on stats. Most races have an incline age which is zero to whatever that race considers an adult. Icers have an incline age of 10 I think. Decline age is also different for all races. Decline age is basically less BP, but you get a bonus to stats up to 40% I think at it's max.

Wall tiles are mostly decorative and block only walking, which makes very little sense until you realize almost everything is supposed to be a roof with either an other roof immediately below it or a wall immediately below it, to provide texture.
If you accidentally make your roof dense by clicking it before you're done building/after misplacing a tile, you can use the rightclick upgrade menu to make them undense, that'll allow you to fly up onto it. Just make sure to fix it back afterwards.

I did a quick poll with the people online and the answer is that movement will remain weird as fuck, but new skills and options (dashing & speed oriented attacks) will enable people to move at appropriately fast speeds with other drawbacks. The trouble is that "smooth" is code for "about 5 tiles a second", where the designated and maximum speed limit is 10 tiles a second- not much variety, there.
It's something to get used to, and if it remains a hot-button issue after the relevant feature-set is implemented, changes will be made.

Speaking of dubs. I was watching Dragonball Z, switching between dubs to spot the differences and found the most egregious one I've discovered yet. The moment in Dragonball Z when Goku spares Vegeta:

>Funimation Dub: "If you kill your enemies, they win." literally Justin Trudeau tier cuck platitudes

Not even exaggerating. The Funimation dub has so many changes with unnecessary dialog and ad-liibbing which completely ruins jokes, speeches, monologues and the overall tone. People who have nostalgia for the Funimation dub haven't compared it to anything. The original japanese dialogue is infinitely better, especially the humor since they aren't beating jokes into the ground with obnoxious extra dialogue; I swear it's like they were paid by the word.

I've watched that exact scene in Kai dubbed, and iirc it was much more faithful to the original dialogue, none of that Trudeau-tier bullshit. Goku admits that Vegeta's probably still gonna be a ruthless bastard, but regardless he wants to fight him again to further test his limits. Kai's dub fixed so many issues I had with the original Funi dub, like Goku's personality, Frieza's voice, script changes, etc. I think my only complaints about Kai are the soundtrack being less memorable and that green tint in Buu saga.
If you ever plan on marathoning the show or showing it to someone, Kai's the way to go. That said, while Kai's more consistent in terms of quality, I think the original JP and even Funi dub did some scenes better, especially in regards to transformations. Now the voices are improved phenomenally in Kai, but the soundtrack just gives some key scenes less impact and power than the older dubs. Take Goku's SSJ transformation; the original JP Z soundtrack had this intense dramatic buildup where you get this powerful feeling that something monstrous is about to be unleashed from Goku. Faulconer's soundtrack for Z had a similar effect; the song started out with fewer instruments, but the closer Goku got to unleashing SSJ, the more the heavy guitar riff plays, signaling his total rage in the moment. In Kai, the scene starts out with no music, giving the viewer time to really focus on the surrounding atmosphere. When the song starts and begins to ramp up, it sounds more higher pitched and less dramatic. The actual transformation feels less impactful and has less of a feeling of "Holy shit is this the Super Saiyan?" but rather "Aw yeah its the Super Sand Lesbian, kick his ass Goku"

ON THE LAST EPISODE OF DRAGON BALL /v/
The threat of the mysterious static people seems to have been temporarily halted! The resolution was multifaceted: Kimchi was empowered by a ritual discharging the lingering power of the MASTUH EMURALD, while the then-emptied crystal was dumped into the Final Realm to temporarily seal the crack the static originated from. It was then discovered that this static was the result of a dead universe breaching our own. This universe contained an entity known as BLAQ, who destroyed it entirely.
Following these events, the Supreme Kai returned from his investigations into the other galaxies, where people have been mysteriously disappearing. Discussions ensued, where Kimchi revealed her plan to destroy this universe and create a new one wherein all the current souls could escape the cycle of reincarnation. Everyone in attendance was recruited to seek answers to how the universe was formed while the Supreme Kai went to Heaven to seek answers in his archives. Demilich then brought everyone to Hell to begin there search to understand the fundamental powers of the universe. It was there that Storrem found a mysterious statue, which came to life upon being bashed by Demilich's skull. This statue turned out to be a mysterious entity known as Cage, who spoke of past universes and the souls that had reincarnated into this universe from those past universes. He explained that the universe was created by the opposition of two fundamental forces, of which the Supreme Kai and the Daimo are avatars. After this exposition, Cage sent away the mortals to talk to the deities alone. Kimchi and Demilich listened as Cage detailed how to create a new universe by forcing two souls representing the fundamental forces to engage in bloody conflict. Demilich objected to this method, arguing that conflict was how all the past universes were created, and repeating that process would just repeat the cycle of reincarnation. Cage disagreed, arguing that once the new universe was made, the deities of this universe could set new rules. This philosophical debate lasted for some time, with no clear resolution in either side's favor. Cage then revealed a crucial piece of information: time was also engaged in a cycle, and the present had caught up with the past. Demilich then reasoned that it wasn't that BLAQ had breached our universe, but instead that our universe had breached BLAQ's - along with every other previous universe. This process will continue to merge aspects of all past universes and create conflict within the reincarnated souls as to which iteration of themselves they would be.
Armed with this information, everyone departed to become stronger, in the hopes of ushering in a new universe before this one collapsed onto itself.
Will our heroes attain their goal of creating a new world before chaos consumes them? Will everyone even want to create a new universe? Will Kimchi ever attain the status of a true god? Will Demilich lose another body part and cease to be? WILL THE SUPREME KAI EVER DO HIS JOB INSTEAD OF LEAVING THE DAIMO TO DO IT? Everyone starts with
>a racial modifiers tree
>a "body quality" tree
>a "ki foundation" tree
and there could be limited trees based on race for more racial flavor, Saiyans would be the biggest guys in this camp.
You invest in the "Ki Beamfag" tree and get a lot of Ki Offense and Ki Skill but no Ki Defense, while a "Ki Fighter" general tree gives you a bit of Ki Offense and Ki Defense and basic ki attacks but little to no Ki Skill.
Balancing would take the form of trees blocking each-other off and controlling the amount of points people get based on BP tiers that will need to be defined somehow, probably inspired by canon so you get a real BP curve with easy splits instead of whatever the fuck DU was thinking.
I think I'd try to give everybody 5 by power 20 and slow down from there, where that would be enough to unlock 1 major skill in any generic initial specialty tree (speed, strength, technician, power ki, control ki, skill ki, tank, magi-tank, magic)
I actually think this is a pretty heavy workload but it's doable thanks to the Skill system I implemented earlier, which only needs marginal tweaks to make it work in this manner (via a new type, /skill/tree/X). The bulk of the time would be spent bringing everything in-line with the new format, as of now only a few verbs have been overhauled.

Yes, even if we stay with the current system. Someone who sinks a ton of points and time into evolving their Spirit Tri-Beam into Neo Tri-Beam would probably get a sizeable bonus to Ki Offense and Ki Skill.
Also add to that list "Esoteric Skill" for strange moves/builds like Magic, which is an oddball in general for Dragonball & Z. I think I'd focus on implementing the core stuff first, though.

Complex objectives are relatively easy to add. Kaioken hurts you badly as you try to master it and may kill you if you're too weak, Full Power requires a gray to burn their energy until they've familiarized themselves, and both have varying levels of mastery. The only other thing I've experimented with at the moment is movement, but due to the nature of the target system, I could add things like "knock out a player within X seconds of using this skill" that sort of stuff.

This is accurate enough. Most skilltrees will have prerequisite trees before them (stemming from Body, Mind, and Spirit as your most basic investment paths). Certain special ones like "Grand Kai Influence" could have special flags that would be met through skill use feedback, proximity to/training with Kai, or even global vars that monitor how many of them exist at a given point in time.

Describes how many pages you want your skill tree to go up to, at most, which is currently unused but is there for your use if you need it to help make your tree growth loop work.

This describes what cluster your Tree itself goes into, where 0 is racial/innate, 1 is first tier, etc.
>enabled=0 or enabled=1
This describes if you can learn the tree by default, and for most trees, this should be manually set to 0.
>constituent skills
All you have to do to list existing skills in any tree is add it to the list! Be very careful to only add skills to more than one list if they mutually exclusive.
>can_refund
This dictates whether or not you can refund it and should be "TRUE" for all non-innate or racial trees.
Now look at Bango.png. This has two procs that are necessary for adding or removing trees from availability. They are functionally similar, but the order in which they're called is sequential, so keep that in mind!
>growbranches()
This should be used to scale up the tree. As you can see in this basic example, didchange is a var that determines if anything changed and prevents too many wasted/repeated calls. "invested" is a built in handler for the number of skill points the player has added to the tree, while "var/sharpmind" is a new var for the mob that is used to gate off Rudimentary Effusion (which is the most basal tree for Ki attacks)

This should be used to scale down the tree. As you can see, this disables Rudimentary Effusion when you do not have sharpmind. Something's missing here too, should be easy to spot.
and that's actually all you need to know for making Trees. Isn't it wonderful?
Skills are a bit more complicated but have a similar format. Check out speedy.dm for a mostly annotated example in rapidmovement!

Either or both.
Many skills exist and need to be modified and brought in line with the new system, while others are being created as necessary. The most recently ported skill, Ki Blast, is just the old "Basic" with tweaks.
For an example of the new skills, there's a longstanding gap in speed based and physical moves that form a good half of Dragonball's combat, even if it played a more trivial role in Z, so skills like Rapid Movement are being introduced to broaden people's options. Another example would be the entire division of Magic/Sorcery/other canon weird shit that can't be explained by Ki, which is also prime Dragonball (and even Z/Super!) content that can be systematized and added. Magical girl Tuffles, sealing spells, telekinesis, dragon ball creation, and turning people into carrots coming to a byond game near you at an indeterminate date long after we get done with porting everything.

Psychic fish from that one Bardock movie. They're a joke race? Probable candidate for deletion but they have good potential to be an alternate history powerhouse, since they kinda got cucked out of being the fastest growing race by the Space Pirate invasion.
Every included race is intended to have at least one Racial skill tree, unique stat distributions, and possibly unique mechanics or features. Cyborgs should not grow organically so having them tethered to techie characters would be interesting, Saibamen are notoriously weak but turning them into a persistent summon-able race would be neat (think PAIs in ss13), Metas are clones with strange attributes and are tied to the Gete star itself, Kanassa and Yardrats both have unique talents they should be able to teach and share, etc.
