I will never forgive them for what they did with Mass Effect 2. 3 was a far worse product, but 2 was the start of the decay in gameplay and writing.

Why couldn't they have just taken ME1, smoothened out the edges and called it a day?

I loved that part where you suddenly get the urge to shove the entire combat team into the little shuttle that usually only houses the 3 people you take on a mission so the bugpeople wouldn't have a hard time capturing your non-combat staff.

I agree and it started right at the beginning of ME2 with the prologue. The whole thing made no sense. Shepard should've died and another one would've taken over the mantle.

The gameplay especially the abilities were downgraded after Dan Takahashi made a bad review of ME1 where he complained about the difficulty (he didn't finish ME1, he learned after publishing his review that the game had a menu where he could assing talent points to several abilities for each character and another menu where you can change the armor and the loadout).
