Since OP died in a ditch somewhere, I'm taking over. Let's see how long we can last.

It's a five-star difficulty and the only bonus that was picked is Elina. Here's how things are looking right now on the Units screen. That's where you replenish your troops, buy new troops for your units and upgrade your units. Every unit has stats, where 1-3 is dogshit, 4-6 is earlygame-okay and 7-9 is practically required for late-game. On top of that, every unit demands a specific number of National Power. There's a base cost that's dependent on a unit and it increases every time you increase it's size by increments of 500 troops - thankfully it's capped at 9 per unit. Oh, and cost of getting new troops rises in proportion to unit size.

And here's a special thing. On five-star difficulty there is also a stupid thing called unit scaling. Every time that you capture a country completely (by having them surrender through events or just fully conquering it) other countries increase their average unit size. The amount is ridiculous and you can't deal with it without overpowered units. We don't have those.

So, got all that? Good, because we're getting it raw today.

Right now we're upgrading all the National Power and recruiting everyone from Dango Princess event that we can before the war hits. We can't war just Ashikaga - Hara has a start of turn event that makes us war them when we're at war with the ugly fish and warring with two fronts at once is game over tactics. We keep pushing through Hara. Starting from every turn ending in a six, we have a chance to drop stat-increasing books. Speed books don't drop from levies, so those are a rarity. Lucky.

Oh, and we also got a foot trooper. Good ones are really rare, and decent ones are okay mid-game because you really don't get much of those. Updates will be less frequent from this point on, but please wait warmly.

I've never played the other Rances, so I can't speak as to their gameplay quality, but Sengoku Rance has completely unrelated story and gameplay mechanics so you can pretty much just start with this one.

Most of the series are RPGs, Sengoku Rance is more of a spinoff.

And now for the hard part. See, Ashikaga has Yamamoto Isoroku. It's an archer unit, and those are low tier in this game. But what it has are two really useful skills - both of them are unlockables, so we don't have to worry about them for now.

We want to capture Isoroku so that our roster does not look so terrible. To accomplish that, we need to kill Isoroku's unit once - it becomes capturable after the following cutscene. After that, we just need to kill it again, and we get a chance to capture it. That's a really tall order for us.

What we have here, however, is one Suzume. She's a plot-important character, so she can't die or be captured. She also has Assassinate 2, a skill that uses all of her action points to try to kill an enemy unit through RNG. It can be captured that way too, and AI always deploys Isoroku on it's last castle territory defense, so all we have to do is kill Isoroku once, push there, deploy just Suzume and hope to get lucky.

This means it's time for reloads.

We run through a dungeon on turn 11 to get a Satisfaction event as early as possible - more about them later. On the way, there's a Def Textbook and a statue that increases income. Dungeons are pretty straightforward - you have HP instead of troop count, action points, like in troop battles and an option to switch commanders that doesn't take up an action point. We don't have much commanders, so this dungeon's our limit for now. Hopefully that'll change soon.

And it's back. So here's the situation. We are going for the true route and gourds are going to start breaking in a bit. Not gonna spoil anything, but if a country gets conquered it's gourd breaks and having five of them break before things are ready is really, really bad. Oda's gourd breaks at the start of the route, and at certain points they break automatically, but that's for later. For now, just keep in mind that conquering Ashikaga completely is really bad.

Forgot to mention, but a def book was given to Maeda and speed book is Rance's. Let's keep going.

Here we recruit Goemon and wait for Himiko to show up again. She's a top tier unit, so capturing her is top priority, but if she dies, then it's fine too - it's better than having her with 3k troops in the lategame under some other commander.

Here's also a fun piece of trivia - until Uesugi dies this game, every time you attack, if there's an open spot in the enemy lines, AI can put Kenshin there at random, though it's only once a turn. The good news is that this applies every time AI attacks you as well.

Oh, and thread is fucking dead again. I sure hope people are playing videogames instead of shitposting right now :^)

We get Rizna from Satisfaction bonus. She's a mediocre mage with just 4 int. You can get satisfaction from doing her events, but it takes a really long time and you need really good RNG. Mages are supposed to be good against Foot Troopers, but their sheer troop count is usually too good, not to mention that mages are slow as caterpillars.

After a close attack, we prepare to strike the Mikos. Let's see how it turns out.

Some downtime's on the way - raising National Power is top priority right now. So while we wait for Uruza to arrive, here's some cutscenes. We also recruit Natori because she's too good of a backrow unit. She's really vulnerable - all Mikos usually are, regardless of stats - but Miko Storm 2 is worth it. It's a move with short preparation time that damages all enemy units by 30% of their total troops and increases influence bar in proportion. We're gonna face stacks of 3000-ish units in the late-game (Takuga is a special case), so this really helps.

After declaring on Asai-Asakura off-screen, we've finally got Uruza. She's a top-tier tactician unit that gets a broken skill later on in the game. I could get it now, but that would ruin everything. It's not good to ruin everything, so that's shelved until later. For now, we finally have a tactician.

There's also a speedbook that conveniently goes to Rance. When he's getting another upgrade, it's gonna be 7 speed into Elite Troops. Can't wait.

Asai-Asakura's final territory does not have proper back defenses, so we go in really hard and really fast with our troops until the climax. Uesugi should declare on us the next turn - this is what we want. Yukihime, however, is something else.

Normally, after you conquer Asai-Asakura, she leaves and makes a whole lot of noise that makes other countries declare war on us left and right. We only have one turn to prevent all that, so we gotta recruit her father (we just fucked his daughter in front of him) and raise him to Trust with items. After this, there is a Yukihime search event. Do it in one turn and instead of running she gets captured and recruited.

However, Uesugi is gonna declare on us next turn. We'll need troops to search for Yukihime and there's still Ashikaga and Hara to worry about.

Still pushing through to Uesugi while defending from three fronts. The plan this turn was to deploy a fighting force to conquer one territory and to deploy Rance on the final one - Kenshin always defends it - but sadly Kenshin was defending the second territory as well so we pick up an action point item and put it on Goemon right afterwards. All that is after doing a bunch of Tenshi Sect events where they ask us not to kill them - we're warring them pretty soon.

In the meantime, Tenshi Sect declares on us because Oda Nobunaga is killing all the monks. As a result, our troopcount is lowered and riots will keep popping up on all our territories, although it's only one per turn regardless of how many territories have above 100% riot rate. After we're done with Uesugi, we're killing Hara and then Tenshi Sect. It's gonna get slow for a while.

Magic arrives at the scene, sporting really mediocre stats. She has all the shortcomings of Rizna, except instead of 4 int she has 6. If you bother to learn it, her special move is a penetration beam, which wastes all of her action points to do a lot of damage to at most two units so that at least you can use her as a really shitty Megumin, but she's really, really mediocre unit. She does, however, have three satisfaction events.

Also, Uruza has finally ascended past the Super Saiyan.

And we're back again. Here's a short recap for those of you still following this.

After starting the five-star run with only Elina, we've upgraded NP and warred Hara. After killing their troops to decrease aggression, we've warred Ashikaga. After taking Oil Field and doing some defensive measures, we declared on Mikos and captured two of their best troops to recruit them later on. After awhile, we took Mikos, warred Asai-Asakura, captured Asai-Asakura, warred Uesugi, Kenshin got captured by her uncle and now it's up to us to rescue her by conquering Uesugi on time.

Our set of objectives right now looks as follows - first off, we need 60 satisfaction to get three actions per turn, as mentioned earlier. Second, we need NP badly - our bulk of units will pass the 500 troop mark pretty soon and when that happens, their cost increases by 1. If total cost of units exceeds total power, we get much less income. Third, we really need better troops - right now the most of our force is weak units that do good damage, but croak easily. There's also a matter of permit holders. Fourth, we need to do a lot of dungeons - those offer items and more importantly, levels. And finally, we need to keep up the war engine at all costs so that we can strengthen our troops and weaken AI's at the same time.

And with that in mind, let's continue our journey to hell.

Uesugi faction without Kenshin quickly gets taken out. Now it's gonna be time to kill Hara and to start doing pressure on Tenshi Sect, but after that, there are two possible routes to take.

We could go north and war Houjou. We want to take both Saitama and Edo, capture Ran and use her for a while and get the hannies from the back. This means not dealing with racoon dogs from Tokugawa at all for quite a while and then we stall out Houjou for most of the game. The problem with that course of action is that we border Akashi and Tanegashima - Akashi will eventually declare on us, although the war can be delayed through events and Tanegashima will eventually get conquered by Mouri. So if we're willing to deal with those two things, that's one of the ways to go.

Alternatively, it could be the time to take the south. We conquer Tanegashima and stall out Akashi, which is gonna be more or less easy. After that, we could war Tokugawa and stall them until all the racoon dogs are captured, then conquer them. This opens up a road to hannies for easy NP or satisfaction, depending on what we want.

Because of permits and Houjou being a pain to deal with without good ninja units, I'd MUCH rather go south if possible, though if enough people in the thread want to take the high road, then we'll go for that. It's going to be a while before there is a choice because gotta kill Tenshi Sect first, so you'll have some time to decide.

Oh, and we also start on reinforcements from Leazus. It's gonna take a while to get them, but we're struggling with NP so it's okay.

Meanwhile, difficulty begins to spike up. Uesugi's gourd gets broken, and the next one's gonna break automatically at turn 70 - Mouri's, at this rate. We want to get as much time as possible and final auto gourd breaking event occurs at turn 90, so we gotta stall other counties for this long. Keep in mind that the event at turn 70 gets skipped if there's only 1 gourd left to break, so if we want to conquer some other country with a gourd, we best do that until turn 70.

The list, as you can see, is Mouri, Houjou, Iga, Akashi and Ashikaga.

Akashi and Ashikaga we can comfortably stall out. We can completely ignore Iga because there is an event that makes that province rebel back to Iga's control randomly - and because it's full of ninjas there's a chance that some of them have Assassinate, which is really bad. It's best if DA takes over them. Mouri is really lategame material, really tough units with lots of really good Foot soldier formations. If it's possible, we'd LIKE to kill them with permits before they die to DA, but if we're too slow things are gonna go really wrong.

Well, it was never gonna be easy in the first place.

Isoroku is a special case. Initially, she can't be captured or killed. After her unit dies the first time, there is a cutscene where her subordinates sacrifice themselves to let her escape. After that, if you kill her, there is a chance that she gets captured when her unit is annihilated. I don't know if she's able to die in the process, but most likely not.

Meanwhile, Tenshi Sect attacks 3 times per turn and takes two parts of our province. The brutality.

Ganko was recruited from Mamushi Oil Field. He's terrible as a tactician - his only skill is to proc a chance of all buffs on only ONE troop, but what he does have is 8 defense, a glorious amount that allows him to be fielded for when backrow isn't safe. Right now, we don't have a backrow foot trooper with EIG, so that's really good.

We still don't recruit Kenshin because she joins on auto-event, which happens at a fairly high priority over others. However, since we still get story events, it's gonna take a while. She and Ai can wait.

Oh, and Tenshi Sect completely neglects to deploy ranged units in their formations. We make sure to completely exploit this to get away with as few deployments as we can.

And for those that don't know, monk units fully replenish themselves at the start of your turn, so they essentially have free repairs. Riot-type units (Axes instead of swords) deal terrible damage, but massive numbers compensate for this. Generally, Tenshi Sect mostly uses this troop type, so you can sometimes get away with using a monk unit and having it heal itself.

I really can't decide.

There's 21 turns left until the Mouri gourd breaks. We obviously can't capture Mouri during that time, so to abuse the gourds we must capture either Houjou, Akashi or Ashikaga. The only merit to capturing Ashikaga is that we get a warrior with Light Attack and SAT from both Isoroku event and capture event - all those things can be ignored in favor of something else. When Akashi is done, they're REALLY done - they send child soldiers with miniscule troop sizes at you when they're down to a last part of the territory. They're not a threat at all.

Killing Houjou to the north, however, carries a lot of merit. First, the earlier we do that, the sooner we get Souun. It's a diviner with 8 in all combat stats that's capable of doing a magic attack instantly. However, his recruit event has a very low priority, meaning that it isn't likely to come up very often, so the sooner the conditions for his recruitment are met, the better. However, it must be done in the next 21 turns and we've just finished slaughtering the Tenshi Sect. If we are to do that, then it must be done now.

It's late and there's a lot to think about. I'm calling it for today. Tomorrow, we're gonna pick a course of action and carry on through with it.

Actual spoilers ahead. Read at your own peril.

If we go north, you get to see the desperate struggle to conquer a vastly superior force with almost no troops under our belt. In 10 or so turns we'll get permits, too, which will balance things out - we can reasonably use two of them right now, though maintaining them will be really costly. We will most likely end up conquering the entire north save for Iga best-case scenario with DA taking most of the southern provinces. So our reward for taking the hard path and killing DA's takeover of Iga will be a chokepoint where we can comfortably push DA into a corner. This means that we'll have to kill Takeda instead of Mouri and thus we'll get a better unit.

If we go south, we kill Tanegashima, kill Ashikaga and kill Mouri with permits. Defending against Mouri will NOT be fun, but it guarantees us a foothold from where we can start pushing to the bridge much sooner. We'll get to see different events from the north version and there will be a Demon Army blitz 100%. We also get to see Hannies fuck up Takuga. However, since we won't have many north provinces, we'll likely suffer a lot - the units that you get from Tanegashima, Akashi, Mouri and Takuga are really terrible compared to what you could get from up north. That's not to say that we can't make it, but in the long run we will definitely suffer more.

Keep in mind that in both scenarios we will likely manage to capture at least SOME provinces from the other direction and if things go extremely well we might even war Dokuganryuu. That said, please don't count on it. This is five-star, so it's gonna be hard.

If you don't want to see the spoilers - you'll get to see different events based on what might occur if you went in one direction or another.

Gaymon is top tier. His stats are crazy good and you can just have him do Battlefield Construction (which is a quick action) and then Assassinate. Battlefield Construction is stupidly OP on high speed Ninjas since it acts as a damage output buff and damage reduction buff for your troops. You can get Suzume or Kanami to 9 speed and have them give your troops 32%-40% more dmg done and less dmg taken before most of the units on the field get to act.

I'd suggest taking out Houjou and declaring war on Mouri before the last gourd breaks. That way you can whittle them down during the post-gourd event fun times.

Anyways, since you'll probably have a hard time later on: finish Magic's events to get Rance's Love and stick it on a female character with low-ish to medium stats: Kanami and Maria are all excellent candidates for this. Finish their events and deploy them with Rance each turn for a heart. Rance's Love gives 2 hearts. There's a chance they'll get another heart from a successful battle, too. That means every 2-3 turns you can upgrade that commander to god tier status. 9 attack/speed Maria does disgusting damage and obliterates any dangerous enemy commander. One of my favorite strategies is to clear Akihime ASAP and deploy her with Rance every turn. After a short while, both her and Rance will become so OP that they can duo most of the early/mid game battles.

That's a really good way to grow troop counts for expensive units like cannons, diviners and warriors. As a side note, putting the queen bee (the item that removes half the troop count but gives 2 actions) on Ranmaru when the game starts is generally a really good idea since it lets you turn her into a powerhouse. Same thing that can be accomplished with what I described in my previous post, just have the bonus be +100 troops once the commander's stats are maxed out and you'll have a 5k monster stack by the turn 120.

He's good, but not too good. He still dies to any amount of damage taken without troops and while he doesn't need them, to attack, he needs them to not die. There are loads of units other than him that want EIG cover, so it's painful.

We're doing that then. Takeda is after permits, so if there's some free time inbetween, we can kill Tanegashima.

WE ARE BACK. After acquiring a course of action, we are set to invade Houjou, a nation of Diviners. They seal holes to hell all around the country where ogres come from. They're also great units in general when used right. Their nation will deploy a lot of diviners and they tend to have a strong backline, but we have a good monk and three ninja units, so things shouldn't be this bad. Still, it's gonna be an uphill battle.

There's supposed to be a famous auto-event with a diviner girl where Rance has a choice to rape her and enter war with Houjou for free, but we didn't get it this time around. That's an action fan wasted. We're going to be whittling down Houjou while improving NP and getting Dousan for the next few turns, so it's back to desperate survival mode for now. Will post some battles in a bit.

Oh, and we recruit Andou Kyuuri. It's a shitty diviner with 4 in all combat stats except attack. He has a cucumber fetish.

We also recruit Takuwan-sama, a warrior with 4/5/4/7 with Shouting Charge. You could make an argument for saving books for him because of 7 speed, but 3 base cost is just too much. We're dismissing him soon enough.

Enemies also can't attack vassaled provinces, so if you're defending against someone and you have a chokepoint with a vassaled country, they can't progress. You naturally get NP from it. The flipside is that you get no SAT, items or events. You also don't get levies.

Are you talking about abusing the troop merge event? Takuga units's stats are way too low to be of any use and if our average troop size gets too high, AI will raise it's troop size even more, so we're putting them off for now. It's likely that they'll get DA'd.

We recruit Dousan-chan. It's a monk unit that can use Convert Action in army battles. On top of that, she almost has 1000 troops right off the bat. To recruit her, we needed all three units from Oil, one free NP and a SAT bonus. It's gonna be very worth it. We dismiss Takuwan-sama right afterwards, but keep Andou - he can still use Guard Shikigami, and it doesn't actually scale with INT.

Problem with Ryouma is that her stats are complete trash. A 6k Ryouma stack is worth less than 1k Suzume stack. In fact, having such a high stack is detrimental since the AI will get a larger troop count and you'll be stuck with a damage sponge. There are sharp diminishing returns for a stack's damage output past 1k troops and an even sharper drop in efficiency past 2k. In any case, in 5 star difficulty you prioritize commanders with good stats, with good growth potential (IE ones you can get early and customize) and ones with good unique abilities. The epitome of this is Kenshin: she has good great stats and an amazing passive ability, but she's stuck with Commander's Charge so she's stuck doing weak attacks in battle. All she's good for in 5 stars are dungeon battles and for pairing up with Urza for turn denying shenanigans.

We keep conquering Houjou, bit by bit. Assassinate is really powerful. There's also a Draft Paper that we picked up, which goes to Maria. It's really slow compared to what was going on before - Houjou has a really wide variety of formations and they only attack once or twice per turn, but when they do it's usually a disaster, so picking and choosing units is required, whereas before you could somehow manage to make do with using all of your combat roster to defend.

Oh, and we get two permit holders. Since foot troopers are easier to replenish, we're gonna use as much of the foot trooper permit as we can because we're behind on troopcounts and thus need more money, but we need to capture tactician and diviner units with 1k troops. We can make do with Ran for a diviner permit holder for a while, but tacticians are top priority now.

Houjou attacks us three times in one turn on that one territory that we don't want to lose. It really hurts, but there's no choice but to concede it.

To get the sword on a no bonus run you need to kill Ashikaga and do a dungeon there, do an event and do a dungeon again. Speed scrolls sound like a nice idea, but the problem is that you don't get a good warrior unit to kill undefended things that AI leaves on and Himiko is really valuable, so you end up using Rance for that because he needs stats to do better in Commander battles as well as levels and he needs two speed books. There is an event that gives a +speed to Katsuie for SAT, but at that point you're so behind on it that it's usually not worth taking. That said, if I do get another speed scroll, it's definitely going on Maeda. As for money, we're so behind on troops that it's better to just get them right now to lessen the risk of dying rather than stockpile for jewgains.

Oh yeah, and Ally Guard+ is a thing, too. Once we get a chance, we can put that on Katsuie since he's capped on happiness right now.

We're back. Permits are online, meaning that we can use income to kill a number of territories. We'll need to take Takeda in the span of 2-4 turns, do a lot of dungeons and capture Dokuganryuu to extract the maximum value out of permits. However, if we war the youkais just like that, Tokugawa will be forced to declare war on us, so we'll have to face them one way or the other. Fighting both Dokuganryuu and Tokugawa at the same time is very hard and since we're going to do a bunch of other stuff for a while, let's just war the racoons for now. More troopcount for Takeda, but we can deal. The plan right now is something like this -

Use the downtime to stall Tokugawa until all racoon dogs are dead/captured, then kill it - Kill Takeda with permits - Kill Tanegashima if they're not taken over by Mouri yet - Kill Dokuganryuu with permits

Our limit is turn 90 when auto-event breaks the last gourd - we have 24 more turns. Things are going according to plan.

Kiku can solo defend against some enemy formations with the Ninja defensive item, Teru is a goldmine and is actually one of the best foot commanders in the game because of Counterattack 2, and Chinu is Natori on crack. A battle with Chinu + Natori + Kenshin + Urza and a monk to extend time is almost a guaranteed victory. Mouri family bonus is one of the best game start bonus you can take, only overshadowed by OPmachi.

After numerous trial and error, we have found a way to beat the entire blitz.

For the first fight, we face Yoshihisa. It's a giant stack of foot soldiers. We need to deploy a foot trooper with at least 7 defense to stay alive. Here I use Goemon to help with defense because all tacticians are much-needed for their boosts here. Isoroku, Suzume and Goemon remove the monk post-haste alongside the guarding foot soldier and it's over.

For the second fight, we face a second brother, Kazuhisa. It's a stack of warriors with 8 in all combat stats. To not die, we need to deploy a foot trooper with at least 8 defense and a good tactician to put a defense buff on it. Luckily, Shibata meets the criteria so he just tanks those warriors like a champ. Diviner in the back was a threat, but 9 attack 9 speed cavalry took care of it.

Third fight was a joke. We deploy Kenshin to remove an action point from Toshihisa - he has 2 by default and put a Protective Paper on Kouhime. No matter what, Toshihisa will always go first, so he naturally shoots the protective charm that we got earlier this turn from Kouhime's event. It's only available once you enter a route and once you do, you need to talk to a route's heroine to get it. The rest of the fight is trivial.

Fourth fight is even more of a joke. Iehisa is a tactician with a massive troop stack. The thing is, however, that AIs in this game prioritise buff removal instead of damage. So all we need to do is to deploy a tactician that can renew buffs and we're good to go. We've put Battle Strategy 3 on Ai before, so we can save Tourin for last.

Fifth fight, however, is hard. There's at least 2 warriors every time and by this point, you're generally out of everything and while in earlygame deploying warriors against warriors worked out just fine, here the troopcount goes way up and only that much doesn't cut it. We've upgraded Maeda's speed to 7 and I think that you need at least 5 or 6 with Ally Guard+ and EIG to stand a decent chance of protecting a row. Naturally, for defense we want to go as high as we can - 9 defense with a 45% defense buff (9 int x 5% per int) from Tourin. The rest is just deployed because there's a chance that there are 3 warrior units on the front line and defending is good.

And we beat Xavier. He's a tricky one - every time he takes a turn, he can do an AoE attack. It three-shots Rance, so we have to have a diviner on our team keep putting Guard Shikigamis on him to win this. So we do.

AND THAT'S THE GAME. Now the thread can sink into autosage.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS MESS:

After Uesugi, don't go to Houjou. Save them for last if you want to get Souun because Ran flees from your prison if you take too long. Stall Racoon dogs instead - you'll have advantage if you get +2 speed item and level Suzume's speed to 7 because then you can just put her into their final territory and keep trying for an assassinate. If your team looks good enough after this, you can try to invade Imagawa and then Takeda without permits for tebasaki units and Tourin.

You can skip Asai-Asakura until after Tokugawa or Takeda. Latter two are a major hurdle and you can get 5 NP without conquering a country and raising AI troop cap for the same number of flags, not to mention that earthquake event makes them relatively harmless.

Fire Fuuka after you get a SAT event from her. She's mostly worthless from that point on.

Get Ganko or Ikkyu and put Battle Rating Down 2 on them ASAP using happiness items. You will need BR2 for making Tenshi Sect castle territories less of a hell on earth.

Get EIG Foot Troopers with at least 6 defense before fighting Takeda for your back row.

Get 5 units with Initial Time Advance for defending battles. If you deploy 5 of them, the battle ends instantly with whatever battle rating it had at the start of it. I bet that if you deploy 4 of them with an underworld clock with 2 units that have Initial Battle Rating on a field battle, it'll be an autowin, though I don't know if that actually works.

And last but not least, you can get away with not getting Rance Attack earlygame and using a SAT bonus for Shibata by giving Rance Light Attack instead. This will raise his level, too.

All of those are ideas based on what this playthrough went through, if some of those turn out to be wrong, then please say something. Ikkyu, for example, has 4 defense while Ganko has 8, so we didn't go for him, but he had Witty Comeback. It's strong. See ya, anon.

If you can somehow conquer Mamushi Oil Field without Rance Attack, then there's no point in getting it that early - you can get it later for when you need it, like for difficult dungeons, Masamune fight and final boss. For good 4/5ths of the run we have no one to put Light Attack on - only one that could have learned it is Masamune and you get him from Dokuganryuu. I suppose you could put it on a generic, but that'd waste happiness items and those should be used for upgrading foot troopers - those are your life support. EIG/7 defense/Ally Guard+/speed upgrades are ALL valuable, not to mention that you will probably want to upgrade reinforcements units too.

Light Attack is a really special skill. As long as you have less than 20 commanders left in a prison, if you hit an enemy unit with a Light Attack and then kill it, it will be captured at a 100% chance. If a unit can't be captured, it is killed instead, but if it's a plot-important character (faction-specific, examples include Choushin in Ashikaga and Mouri Motanari in Mouri) then it does nothing. You can see how good this skill is if you set up your team just right.

Rance himself should not be a frontline unit simply because if he dies, it's game over. You can reload, but reloading is shamefur dispray. Don't do it. Therefore, for a good run we must drop Rance as an offensive unit (that goes into castle battles for when there is a need for a strong warrior) and use something else instead. You could recruit a warrior from Tokugawa instead of Senhime for that purpose.

Oh, and I forgot to mention - every time you delete 5 units at a time from your prison, you get a Happy Pokkuru. It increases a level of any character by 1. All of them must go to Rance because he benefits from it the most.

Oh yeah, and for a third fan you just need to take a SAT bonus while having anywhere from 50 to 59 Satisfaction. The sooner you get Oil for that the better, though there exists a strategy that doesn't take a province until turn 21, at which point you get a Popularity Staff, an item that gives a unit 20 troops per turn. You can tell how broken that is, but the lost NP/income will really put a dent in your overall nation power, so a game like that will likely turn out to be weak at the start.

Tenshi Sect castles favour commanders that hit really hard, such as Warriors with Full Power Attack 2. Initial Battle Rating and Castle Battle Expert are two other options to consider. I personally like Castle Battle Expert on Maria since she can instantly wipe out a dangerous unit on her first turn.

Underworld Cloak + 4 is an auto win, it's how you win against the Demon Army in the Miki route.

Rance Attack is only good for commander battles, and not that great anyways since it's just a 2x dmg on his strong attack instead of 1.5. If you're gonna use Rance as a normal commander, you should give him Full Power Attack 2 and Charge to turn him into a god damn monster, pics related.

I use the Kuge sister and put Defeated Warrior Hunt on her. I managed to capture 4 of the 5 racoon dogs in 2 turns with her. She also comes with Guard Break, which is pretty pretty handy if you decide to bump her attack up. The more commanders you capture, the more levels you can get on Rance, which is important for the harder commander battles. Capturing commanders also makes it easier to conquer houses, since most of them don't infinite commanders.

Ah, so that was it. All I needed to do was to attack a DA territory on a last fan of the turn where they came up.

Someone on the wiki claims to have finished a 5star no bonus ironman run on true route with Sill not frozen. I'd assume that they've rushed Morocco as fast as they could and finished the game before all the Miki events could come up. That's what I tried to do.

Well, yeah, but if you enter Oil Dungeon prior to 5 gourds breaking, then it puts you on Ran Route. And if you wait for too long, Gigai will pop out.

You want to kill Tenshi Sect right after Hara because fighting on three fronts is too much so you can't declare on something hard like Tokugawa, because you get earlygame SAT for doing it and because of the fucking riots. This means you have to spend 14 worth of happiness in items value to upgrade Rance or someone else (FPA1 -> FPA2) and you really want EIG and other things at this point. For Five-star no bonus, that is.

Kuge sister has a base cost of 3 and you need to conquer Ashikaga to get her, which means you break a gourd earlier. Compare that to Rance that gets 500-1000 troops for protection with Light Attack for a cost of 2. He also gets a fourth action through SAT eventually since he needs it to beat Inukai anyway.
