Because it's terribly casual? Sonic is all about managing your momentum and speed, and it allows for higher-level play precisely because of how it models slope and angle physics. Gluing the player to walls and ceilings lowers both the skill floor and the skill ceiling, with the only "benefit" being that casuals can feel cool without having to put in much effort to do so.

Freedom Planet's flaws lie not in it's gameplay which is rock solid and as is just as fun as the genesis/saturn era games it's copying in aesthetics from.

What kills it is the fucking script and poor voice acting direction. The VA's are mediocre but you can feel they are enthusiastic and putting effort into it but are completely clueless. And the story is fucking wew worthy, vid related 14:45 time mark.
