The game itself was pretty shit, yeah. There were some interesting ideas, but not enough to hold it all together unfortunately. It does pick up a bit after the second chapter (grinding money, brilliant gameplay idea!), but it still doesn't compare to the first two.
That said, the characters and story are really solid and honestly wasted on the game. If they had kept the more traditional RPG formula, it could've easily be as good as PM64 and TTYD.

There is a point in one route where Corrin refuses to kill the person who started the war because "I don't want any lives to be lost over this war". Because that was the canon in Red and Blue.
He was made in the lab, broke out because he was too powerfull but was confused as fuck and didn't know exactly what he was and what was his purpose, leading to him being closed off in the cave, confused as fuck and violent towards anything that came close to him. I wouldn't say he was a villain or an antagonist, but he was kinda the final boss of the game and the strongest "enemy". That's why I think it was in Event 51 in melee, not because he was a villain, but because he was the boss of one of Nintendo's big games, Mario, Pokémon and Zelda. that's game-wise only due to the fact that his stats are hugely inflated across the board and he's generally overpowered, but his animations are slow and lumbering with his strikes being realistically awkward (wide above-to-below strikes, angled below-to-above strikes where he has to turn his whole chest to the side for proper momentum, awkward spear twirling during crit animations, slow start up and slow ends to animations that portray the sheer weight of his armor) The only animations that are "fast" are his dodges, where he shifts quickly in a manner that implies he's getting blows to glance off of his armor rather then properly dodging.
While he has godly stats in the game, the actual badassness he exudes is his demonstration of his skill in using his extreme heavy plate armor properly as a full body shield, which gives him an impression of being implacable and unstoppable. I can confirm the melee opening. This is due to Ganondorf and mewtwo (his attack anyway) making cameos in the intro of melee, but Ridley has probably the most prominent appearance (other than samurai goroh). I personally didn't crave Ridley in during Melee, but during the development of Brawl, I came to LOVE Bowser and Ganondorf and craved more villains being playable. You'd think, but you also have to keep in mind they can't include them all, and I don't think Sakurai's inclined to do a fan-poll for the sake of what music to include, especially when it's releasing in less than half a year and there's not enough time to remix them. Also bear in mind, this is the same Sakurai who didn't include One-Winged Angel on Cloud's stage or Hyrule Castle (SNES) on Hyrule Temple or Hyrule Castle, so you'll forgive me if I don't get my hopes up.

With that said, most moveset speculation revolves around her playing a simplistic game of Panel de Pon on the Smash stage itself - she can conjure panels and create stacks of them which can deliver different area of effect spells depending on what color they are (fire, electricity, ice, flowers, and deathblows from the rare "!" blocks). She could also swap panels and characters/items around with a swap cursor move, and naturally the more panels she pops, the larger her down+B garbage block special would be. 2) "Shit meme" franchise has had more games and worldbuilding than most of the first-party Smash cast; outlived actual memes like Strike Witches and Kancolle
3) Basically invented the modern doujin market
4) Never sold out to a corporation
5) Was done on a balls-to-the-wall dedication to the art the creator wanted to make; left a secure job already in-industry to do it
6) Has multiple fangames coming to the Switch, which is a tiny cross section of a multimillion dollar fanwork industry that's cropped up around the franchise
7) Games never get political or preachy at the player
8) Creator remains eminently humble and friendly, interacting with fans without putting themselves on a pedestal
Touhou is everything /agdg/ aspires to be.
