This port has the Yooka-Laylee issue of "the game is too busy for it's own good".
In the PS1 era, the character model would get far more attention and detail than anything else. An example, Mario's model in 64 had a few more polygons than most entire stages. This served to make the character stand out even when they were standing on terrain of the same color. But here, they have to justify being an HD Remake, and "using new hardware to the fullest", so they shove detail everywhere. Background details now have as much detail as the enemies, which have as much detail as Crash. It's too busy, and detracts from the game, it's completely unnecessary.
That, and the physics changes are unnecessary as well, seems like more change for the sake of change, same with the music, where a lot of songs are just butchered for no reason, especially Heavy Machinery.

i thought the remake had modified colliders and hitboxes, which stopped you from pulling some notable tricks available on the original trilogy.
I dont know why would they do that, but i'd honestly rather just play the originals if i wanted some more crash bandicoot.
The spyro remake is also going to get censored because guns are icky. and who knows what else will they do with the unseen parts of the game, the changes to the crash remake colliders weren't publicized, it was found out by players who compared the games. I like my remakes to be 1:1 of the originals, either you add content, or you leave everything as is and rework the graphics. you don't remove or change content from the originals

But in case I get rejected, here's the issue that causes crash to slide off of every thing, SPECIFICALLY his landing hitbox and (in a different manner) his bodyslam hitbox both slope away from the direction he's facing, and the default displacement back to his normal standing position is to the rear of the bodyslam which causes you to slide off edges.

Once upon a time, vidya game companies would go out of their way to release demo discs of their new IPs, sometimes even of their sequels. People would go down to the local newsagent's or game store, buy the equivalent of a chicken nugget's worth in demo discs, sometimes with related magazines to get a better understanding of the final product and try out the hot new junk without being timed on their testing. Games costed relatively the same, however you could easily share your own copy of the game with your friends without any problems, multiplayer was often times in splitscreen or supported LAN and, most importantly, you OWNED a physical version of the game, no one could come and stop you from playing your game offline.
Nowadays, people don't have that leisure. Not only most game companies flat out lie about their vidya or modify it heavily to appeal to a market that isn't there, you do not own the thing you just purchased, at best you bought an installer and at worst the company hosting the services is merely renting you the copy of your game, and don't get us started on trying to share a virtual copy, something intangible and infinitely replicable with your pals. Furthermore, there's a huge amount of games that flat out die for a variety of reasons, among which:
>Always online requirements with no patch around it
>Online servers contain a huge part of the game's logic
>Patched versions of the game may remove features or change the game in a way that doesn't satisfy your tastes at time of purchase
>Flat out removed for ideological reasons (i.e. Dirty Chinese Restaurant, Scott Pilgay)
Add to that the ludicrous way most games are unpolished and bloated as fuck - some shitty Unity game can fit into more cds than a AAA ps1 game - and you can clearly see that pirating and modding are two necessary evils in today's industry. You can't trust vidya companies because they can't trust you with buying their products without making a fuss about lies or poor quality or inflated prices or the whole rental or always online or spyware-for-drm things.
And that also ties in with the fact that vidya are becoming increasingly worse and less polished: we are no longer the main consumer, which, again, justifies (albeit less) the fact that we like freebies. We're not putting even a slight dent into the industry compared to Johnny da normalfag, why bother defending against it? If it was around the GBA/DS time, I would have totally agreed with you - fucking Pokètards pirated the game in droves and at some points downloads surpassed purchases, which in this case is kind of retarded, it's pokèmon, they aren't changing the formula in a million years and you'd have owned the copy in the first place. But nowadays, everything's fair game.
Finally, there's also the issue of abandonware, but that's pretty straight forward and only a tryhard would go against that shit.

Tried it out of morbid curiosity, it's not quite as bad as I expected. Sat down and 100%ed Crash 1 last night, doing 2 this afternoon, probably.
Controls are still pretty fucked, but I think they must have patched the pill-shaped hitbox at some point, because it's a lot easier to stand on edges and make small horizontal movements than I was led to believe from watching footage from the PS4 version. The High Road is easily passable on the ropes now, and I remember hearing that it wasn't possible on release, or at least very difficult. That falling speed still completely fucks up certain parts of the game, like that one jump you have to make near the end of Stormy Ascent, or the first jump from the TNT box in the bonus level on Stormy Ascent. I think it was in the face token level in The Lab as well where the speed at which you launch from spring boxes makes it nearly impossible to make the first jump without just blindly grinding out attempts until the stars align.

I'm running into more frustration than I expected with 2, after 1 went so smoothly. Might still finish it tonight, I'm at 64%, but I don't know. Maybe I'm the only one who has this problem but I'm having a hell of a time with the depth perception in this game. Might be the softer lighting, or maybe the clean polys of the original made it easier to discern the vanishing point, but I just can't judge my distance against a lot of enemies. It made the electric gates in Bee-Having a particular bugbear. This part in particular I got through by sheer luck, and by the enemies clipping through Crash a couple times.
I hoped slide-jumping would smooth out the precise jumps a bit but if anything it's made it worse. That one part in Air Crash where you have to jump across the water to get the last few boxes on a distant platform is so precise you have to slide completely off the fucking platforms before you jump.

After beating all 3 games, I've decided that people complaining about cylinder shaped hitboxes or whatever are just bad. Improved air control especially in Crash 1 makes nearly every jump laughably easy. The worst I've encountered is what one guy earlier in the thread mentioned, where I bounced off a crate in the tiger level instead of breaking it, and one of the levels in Crash 2 with the diagonal moving platforms where I found Crash to be slowly slipping off when I don't remember that happening in the original. Still not difficult to compensate for if you've played any platformers ever.
Does anyone else's brain just not register Coco as furshit? Not literally I mean, but like, morally or something. 99.9% of furshit does nothing for me, I am either indifferent or repulsed. Coco is my only weakness, the one chink in my armor. Maybe it's because she was part of my childhood?

Well, I downloaded it. I never liked the PS1 original and this one pretty much does nothing to change that.
In platformers, what you want is tasks that look daunting with freedom of movement and action, like donkey kong where you have to create your own platforms mechanically with the spider, or the barrel chains. Crash is seemingly very simple tasks that you can fail only because the controls are wooden, the inertia is fucked, the enemies manipulate your comportment for some goddamn reason, and the camera angles on some levels don't offer you good perspective. It knows it's overly -but more importantly clumsily- punishing and lavishes you with extra lives at little cost.
Also, 100% most levels is impossible before you 100% some select few levels first and then backtrack? Surely nobody can defend that kind of design.
The best I can say about it is that it inspired Nier Automata to change angles every second level.
