That's why I specified the edited version of Silent Hill that literally cuts out the chaff. And even then, I would rewatch Doom, Resident Evil, DoA, or Tekken, if not Silent Hill, because fun goes a long way for a movie. OP was operating with a failed premise. That American video game adaptations were ever greater then Resident Evil. Or that between Resident Evil, and Silent Hill, wasn't the best for Americans seen in the period they specified.
But when over the decades, we also got Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, and Ace Attorney, the idea that all video game adaptations are bad also needs to die. Just because nu-Tomb Raider, Warcraft, and Assassin's Creed all suck donkey balls, doesn't mean they had to.
