We’re creating a video game in RPG Maker VX Ace together with other anons.

Here’s how it works.

Everyone is taking turns downloading the newest version of the game, making contributions before reuploading it for someone else to work on it. Only one person can actively work on it at a time. This is because if two people make overlapping changes to the database, scripts or switches, they will conflict resulting in one person having to redo all their work. Changes to the map and events can be copy-pasted from one version of a project to another so you’re free to work on new maps and new events if its not your turn and add them to the current version of the game once it is your turn.

It should work like this. OP posts newest version of the map. The first person (Anon #1) to respond to OP stating that he’s going to work on it becomes the active game dev. Once Anon #1 finishes and re-uploads it, the first person to respond to him gets to work on it. So on and so forth. Additionally, whenever you re-upload a new version, reply to the anchor post, it’ll make things a lot easier.

General Rules

>Don’t mess with maps, events or anything else you didn’t make. Although, adding minor stuff like a connection between two areas or fixing bugs and typos is all fine.

>If you’re ok with others editing your stuff, leave a note saying so.

>You’re free to add characters and the like, to the inter-dimensional tavern.

>You’re also free to make changes to game settings, unless its something we’ve agreed upon (we’ll probably do this via a poll)

I've been waiting for a new thread to pop up. I got into it last thread and started working on an optional dungeon kind of thing. This is how the first floor will look like and it'll also be the main hub for teleporting to other floors after finishing it. Right now i'm trying to figure out how to implement some light puzzle elements involving passing through lava by using different ladders you find. Also i have some questions:

I want to add a possible party member who'll be exclusive to this dungeon but i can't draw for shit. Is there a lazy software you're using that puts together readily made assets?

Tileset i'm using is 004:Dungeon but i want to use the futuristic tiles from 003:Interior too. Is there any way to do so?

Is it ok for me to put the entrance to Regular Town?

There is a character generator in RPG maker, look at the bar on the top.

The trick I remember was popular in 2k3 was using events as props, this gave you much more flexibility in what your map looked like. I think XP also had this going for it but I've noticed newer versions of RPG Maker doesn't handle multiple events on a map very well even if the events don't do anything.

I sprited it, it's much more obvious if you compare them side-by-side. The sprite in pic related is the original, just for the sake of comparison. There are a few artifacts in smaller one like the random black pixels because I'm a fucking idiot and had to downscale the original 386x386 sprite I made but it's mostly the same as the original.

I'm not doing it again because it took way too long and the right eye is kind of fucked up because I couldn't figure out how to fix it.

To be honest i'm stuck with the said ladder mechanic. Didn't start experimenting for real yet but nothing i come up with in my mind seem to go anywhere. What i want to do is simply this:

>Use action button on designated location

>Use or don't use ladder

>When used, activate script that places ladder and anon walks on it

>Ladder is removed from inventory

>Can use action button on the other side to walk back

>Can pick up ladder from where you placed but not from other side

Especially that final condition is fucking up with my brain. I don't know how to achieve this without littering the event menu for every ladder location. Other than this i only need to write dialogue and add the bosses for it to be finished.

No. As i said you're not supposed to recruit him until you finish the dungeon. Also the thing i'm talking about is after you enter the code on paper piece to the computer it's supposed to change the text but it just keeps entering that code when you press action. In other news i realized i fucked up some things:

-When i was playtesting i changed Anon's starting level a few times but forgot to change it back to 1. Now it's 10.

-That elixir doesn't cure Niggerblood, it cures Blacked. There's no such thing as Niggerblood.

-I forgot set an event to remove Gringlebeard from the party too. This dungeon is supposed to be entered solo.

I can upload it again with these fixed.

For whoever is working on the game next:

-Someone mentioned in the last thread that bouncer is no longer blocking the corridor to dimension doors. Move him back to his original position.

-As >>15094494 mentioned it's weird for the loli to know you're a dimension hopper if you never even stepped inside the tavern. Feel free to add a switch to make her appear only after you prove yourself.

-I checked the tavern music in both 0.27 and my 0.28.1. Default theme was set to Red Velvet so it's probably changed by someone else in a previous update.

I'm not making a 0.28.2 for these little changes. Also i just realized that the story i came up with in Happy Park is real fucking cringy. Maybe i'll add an option to kill Masao on second floor.

I added interiors and a couple NPCs to regular town. Same rules as usual regular town anybody can add shit, It just bugged me that all the buildings were just empty doors to nowhere.

I moved the bouncer and changed the music in the Interdimensional Tavern back to what it was before, but I added a jukebox so anon can play different BGMs if he wants to. Feel free to add more options for songs you think belong there.

The little girl tells anon to come back later if he hasn't talked to the tavern keeper yet.

-Bouncer properly moves away now. The problem wasn't the second event like i said, but the Passage being OFF on the bouncer when he's walking away.

-Since you can't enter Happy Park without proving yourself i removed the Masao NPC upstairs.

-Changed Masao's Tribal Dance so that it angers one ally instead because i was too dumb to realize what Anger state does.

-Fixed some stuff in Purified Labyrinthian Spa.

–You fight against the Nerfed Lamia as intended.

–You can actually leave the basement now.

–Since you can progress, the lever that triggers the switch to free Van is there too.

–Added Van to Party Zone. He appears after you pull the lever. Sorry if i'm doing this without consent but i have a valid reason for that.

Known issues:

-You can't re-enter Purified Labyrinthian Spa after you leave. When you leave and try to enter again your character is stuck in place. Sadly i couldn't find the cause for this.

-Trap Castle in Mapanon World is fucked too. You're stuck after entering.

Also i would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to delete save files. I wanted to delete the second save i used to skip Water Level but was too afraid to delete something important.

Stop thinking about making a video game and think about learning code first, set yourself a clear, timebound but extremelly easy goal. For example "I'll learn three things everyday" I don't know shit about coding so I can't tell you how to break it up exactly so you'll have to do it yourself. You'll start out slow, but you'll make progress, instead of thinking "I'll learn coding and make a game" think, "I'll learn this part of my material during this month/next couple of months" you have to set yourself a set time, and you have to make sure that you feel comfortable with it even if it's supposed to be extremelly slow. Do that everyday, even if it seems extremelly easy, do not increase the amount of material you take on everyday. Do it so that you rarely feel any hardship going through your everyday material, you will quickly find out that it becomes simpler to make yourself take care of that everyday, and eventually you'll be ready to increase your material so it will start slowly speeding up. Just get rid yourself of the expectations of doing things fast and be honest to yourself about your learning abilities and don't take on too much things at once. The reason why you cannot force yourself to take up a time-based goal is because you're probably afraid of failing that goal, so just give yourself a time limit that you're sure that you can do something in and stick with it. I started learning Hiragana that way promising myself to finish Hiragana in the next three months and if it goes like it does right now then I will have learned it in the next 10 days or so. This isn't a very fast way of learning, but it teaches you how to learn faster and about the limits of your current abilities. Because I've set myself a time limit that is far too much for learning just Hiragana, but still reasonable enough that I could fail if I procrastinate too much I don't feel to stressed about failing but I feel motivated enough to learn at least three symbols at day, which albeit slow, makes it so that I get closer to my goal everyday.

Creativity is the skill of taking a theme you like from something or someone else and adding to it, turning it around so many times that it becomes something new. This is how every single creator does stuff. They either take something from another work, or from the world around them and add ideas onto it until becomes something new. I suggest taking up writing and trying to write something like another thing you like but slightly different, you will quickly find yourself using themes that completely change the main idea. Even if you're talking mechanic-wise, it works on the same basis, and creative writing will help you with that too. You could also start by trying to create your own board games, read some books, play some board games, try copying something that you like and then start thinking about how you could change it so that it could be cooler for you, and then keep adding those changes and what changes would need to be made to allocate the new changes. You'll eventually find yourself with something different than what you were inspired by.

I played for an hour or so. Some things really need fixing. Most of it is probably just unfinished stuff though. What bothered me was :

-Encounter rate is way too high for a joke game. It would be acceptable in a real rpg, but I'm not willing to waste time going through the same enemies for 50+ fights, especially given the horrible native rpgmaker battle system. Also I never liked Bane memes, but that's just me.

-As someone mentioned earlier, wide empty areas are a pain in the dick to navigate when you can't move diagonally and you're locked in a small resolution. The gondola village could have been cute, but it's just boring as it is now.

-The game froze at the end of dialogue when I met the cat in the tavern thing. Probably a small issue but it was kind of annoying regardless. Maybe it's on my end ?

-If someone is ever to play this game without the explanations of those threads, he's going to need a little more directions about the interdimensional tavern. I had absolutely no clue as to why it's there and how it works.

-Writing witty politically incorrect jokes and insider memes is fine and dandy, but it's infuriating when the formating is so fucked up half the sentence is cut off by the dialogue box. I have no idea how to fix this, last time I used rpgmaker was when I was 15. It seems to happen the most with lines that are actually funny too. Some item descriptions are also affected.

-mp/tp don't seem to work properly with some skills. Some skills do work but seem to do nothing. Forgot which ones, sorry. Since it's not that ambitious of a project, I'm actually ok with this, as long as there is no severe consequence in the gameplay.

Overall I was expecting more funny retardedness and less actual (and crappy, it's rpgmaker after all) gameplay. I don't think you should try to make a legitimate game with such a bad tool. It's perfect for a joke game though.

True, I say we should make something that allows player to lower the encounter rate, or even skip on unimportant fights. Although when we finish the game, we're planning on fixing the combat to make it actually fun.

It's mainly a problem with the first two areas but you're right. I'm thinking if increasing the resolution wouldn't have fixed that. I remember there being scripts that do that.

I playtested Gustav several times when I put him in, you have to wait for him to get to the table in a small semi-cutscene, maybe someone added an event that blocked him from getting to the table?

Noted, I think we should think about making it a bit more obvious that it works as a hub world for anon to fast travel between locations and that there are people who can give him quests there.

It's a quirk of RPG Maker VX Ace, again, maybe changing the resolution would have fixed that, in general though, this type of problem would be fixed by changing the formatting a bit. We're trying to fix that as much as we can.

Almost forgot to mention, last variable is the number of quests you have done towards getting the stand. The ending of related quests on Mt. Waifu should increment it. Also, I recommend giving your bosses dark resistance.
