Isnt skateboarding in general dead? I don't think anyone will ever make tony hawk skateboarding money ever again. It was a 90's pipe dream.

There was some Skate looking game announced at E3. I'd say if that one sucks balls, then we can safely say that Skateboarding games are dead.

This. Skating was a 90's fad, and it's dead now. It's like asking how to make Guitar Hero popular again.

Tony Hawk talked about it just the other day on the radio. THPS had the total market share of a very niche game style. Then Skate showed up and virtually 50/50'ed it so both were not making enough money with no room for competitors. So the genre died.

But THPS was already on life support if not dead by the time Skate came out. I mean it had at least 3 games for some reason.

I wish the people who worked on the games before Underground would get together again.

Skateboarding isn't dead, it's just back to being only popular amongst people who generally enjoy it, as it should be. Back in the 90's and early 2000's it got popular with normalfags who just got into it because of a few famous skaters and didn't actually know or care about skating at all. Now the market is pretty niche since you would mainly have to appeal to the more hardcore enthusiasts who also happen to play games. At least we got Skate before the drop in popularity, which pretty much nailed the sport. THPS was a fun series for awhile, but Skate recreated the feeling of actually skating pretty well which was great fun.

Plus in the age of digital distribution and cross platform/generation games skater likeness right along with music licensing from dozens of record labels is a nightmare you have to renew every so many years. Thats PER game as well. Its why THPS, despite being rated as one of the greatest games ever made, has no current day ports at all.

That and kids dont want to be skaters, they want to be youtube "reacters". Honestly i think Jackass/CKY and the big brother videos like BOOB were part of the reason for its resurgence in the early 2000's that shits gone too.
