Any series that has three entries into it is a trilogy. Even if a fourth comes out and makes it a quadrilogy, it was still a trilogy for a time and when anyone refers to it as a trilogy they're talking about the three first parts before there were any additional ones. Imbecile, it doesn't work like this. There are trilogies within larger series but these are specifically designed as trilogies or share some unifying quality beyond a fucking title. The Prequel trilogy is such a work. These days there isn't a "Star Wars" trilogy, there's the Original trilogy and the Prequel trilogy. Nothing defaults to trilogy status unless it's a body of work containing three related installments.
