Banning doesn't accomplish too much in my experience. Actively refreshing threads and deleting the posts of the target offenders to deprive them of replies and preventing others from derailing by responding to the shitpost in question is much more effective. The faggot will keep posting but almost nobody will see his posts if you are fast enough, and eventually gets bored when nobody responds to him and leave.

What I would actively crack down on is people who respond to bait in the first place. They're not contributing anything by replying with low-quality posts to low-quality shitposts, moreover they're enabling shitposters by giving them more attention. Stop trying to outsmug them, it's bad for the thread. For this you'd only deserve a 10-30 minute ban, with a message saying 'stop replying to bait'. If the mods are shown to actively step in, then people will eventually relegate the moderating to the mods instead of trying to self-moderate with no success.

The "hivemind" seems to be in full swing and it seems everyone is being controlled by memetic opinions and beliefs, here. /v/ used to be a nice and pure board; I'm not sure if it's /pol/ crossposters bringing their paranoid schizophrenia to everything and furthering the massive witchhunt that's been going on in almost every thread, or if this board is just this far gone that it's highly difficult to have a good quality thread with well-made posts and discussions here.

Though, if this board starts going down that route, and if people encourage Mark to do these things, I'm sure more people will be happy to leave for some place else once if some people push him to be a little more draconian in his rules. I tried to contribute with OC in the past; I got a graphics tablet, started drawing and making shit for /v/, wrote up large, detailed posts in threads to provide meat for quality discussion about various vidya franchises and games, but shit's just gone so far down I don't really know what to contribute anymore. It set in when I got banned for a good while for "rule 8" for criticizing the idea that this is a secret club and that we should be encouraging new users to lurk more instead of just telling them to go back to another website; a user who's decided this board is his home online isn't going to just ditch it because of a reply like that. Fuck I'm not even opposed to spoonfeeding if it helps users get on the road to providing good OC and posts quicker; imageboards thrive on those things and I think it's good for the health of a board.

Just, fuck man, I spend more of my time around smaller boards now since they have better moderation and a general higher discussion quality all around. 8chan is functionally better than 4chan; the captchas are better, higher filesizes, webms with sound, five images per post, custom boards with custom CSS and features, and no post cooldown. It's my favorite imageboard to use because of these things, and the only one I actively use. And what ever happened to the archive feature getting fixed? A lot of shit's just been kind of left in the water after Hotwheels has left and nobody seems to want to fix it. Do we even have any active coders working on the site anymore? The site lost a shitton of users after 8chan was preparing to shut down some shit and everyone was planning on moving to whatever Josh/Pig Food's new website was, which had a huge lack of functionality and was a buggy piece of shit.
