Which takes let you go autistic with elemental magic? What would you like to see more when it comes to magic or elemental attacks? Regular water magic boils down to just casting larger bodies of water, but how about combining fire and water to shoot out steam to cause nasty burns? Or water magic where you cast a bubble of water in the enemy's head to drown him?

the golden sun games have a lot of really cool classes with djinn. I kinda wanna replay these games with an unfucked translation.

The first magicka game was fun for experimenting with magic but the gameplay was a little boring.

CodeSpells let you do some weird shit with water, made some fun Moses spells, but I think they patched out some shit recently

Magicka is kind of like what you describe anon. You get 8 elements (Fire, Lightning, Earth, Water, Cold, Shield, Life, and Death) which you can freely combine to form spells on the fly. Combining Fire with Earth will make lava, water with cold makes Ice etc. In theory it's a really cool system, since all the elements have effects on eachother and the environment. In practice, the gameplay boils down to remembering a handful of powerful combinations and using them almost exclusively.

Divinity Original Sin 2 also has pretty neat elemental magic interactions. You can cast earth spells which cause oil to coat the ground, set the oil on fire to make flaming surfaces, douse the fire with rain to form steam, electrify the steam to form stormclouds. There are also blood and curse effects which you can apply to other elements. Burning blood makes blood clouds, electric blood can paralyse those who touch it, cursed fires can't be put out easily. Once you've got a couple of elemental spells under your belt it feels a lot like you've made your character into a swiss army knife because you are so god-damn versatile.

You know I once developed a really autistic elemental system, and I am still working on improving bullshiting it. One thing to note, is that I am really bad with names, most characters in my imaginary stories don't even have names, just ranks, even though I made stories featuring them for years.

In this system, there are 7 elements(pic related), three primary and four secondary(two for destruction, fire and ning, and two for creation, water and air). I call it ning and not lightning, because lightning is the combination of light + ning, and yes there's is darkning as well. An elementalist can use either one of them(most common), a primary and a secondary(earth + fire, light + ning, dark + water and so on) or two secondaries which is just fire+ning or water + air) which are rarer, even rarer are those who can use three elements like earth + fire + ning, but can not combine all three, just combinations of two. There are limits in that you can not have two opposing elements like fire and air, or dark and earth. Users of dark, mostly command shadows, whereas users of light create material light in existence.

The system is a more advanced rock, paper, scissor, where water beats fire, fire beats air, air beats ning and ning beats water, earth beats water and air, but looses against fire and ning, while dark has a slight advantage against all elements, except light and light has a slight disadvantage against all elements, except dark, which it has the greatest advantage against(a light elementalist has a greater chance of beating a dark elementalist, than a water one against a fire one, so they are a more specialized user), there is no advantage or disadvantage between fire and ning, or air and water.

Those who can use two elements can combine them, so something like fire+earth gives lava, water + earth gives plants/trees, air + earth gives sand, earth + ning, I guess life, still working on this, imagine golemns or some shit. Water + air gives ice, and fire + ning gives a new form of plasma, imagine something that is as fast as ning, but that spreads like fire. Dark combined with the destruction elements gives more powerful spells, whereas combined with the creation ones gives stuff like poison(dark + water) or miasma(dark + air). Light combined with the creation ones gives more healing, and with the destruction ones, weakens them(because light is weak against most elements) but is a good counter for someone who has dark + fire or dark + water, though I imagine light + ning, giving lighting being the fastest element in existence. Oh yeah and fire doesn't produce light(so you can't light a cave with it), only fire combined with light does that, so you need lightfire to illuminate dark places. These are called hybrid elements.

Limits like water + fire or light + dark, exist since they are impossible to accomplish in reality, as those are rules imposed by gods, and of course, in typical autism, the people of this world devised a barrier, that when erected separates the users from time, space, gravity, and all the rules of existence and reality, and now they can do some crazy shit, fire + ning+ earth, gives an element similar with lava in consistency, but is as fast as ning I call it blue lava, air + water + fire gives a white fire that spreads like fire, but freezes anything it touches, including fire, earth + air + water, gives an element that can instantly go from solid to liquid or from air to solid, it's the strongest in defense, and the same element can pass through it without friction, so you erect a wall and throw spears through it, or "water" passes through it as if it didn't exist, light and dark can also be combined with a secondary element, so you have silver fire, or silver air, it's mostly an upgraded form of the secondary element. I haven't come up with, what happens when you combine all secondary elements(fire+water+air+ning) or all primary elements(light+dark+earth), but all 7 elements combine, which nobody can do, except the elemental goddes who is dead, but it's the element of life and existence itself, all that this element touches would instantly disappear from existence.

If someone wants to use this system, they can do so.

element 1: Anima (life: living or dead things, including people, mind control, telepathy, shapeshifting, healing, etc.)

element 2: Materia (material: unliving things, all forms of matter and energy, basically classical elementalism)

element 3: Continua (movement: space/time, portals, teleportation, time travel, prophecy, post-cognition, etc.)

element 4: Vira (power: supernatural entities/magic itself/multiverse/supernatural realms, anti-magic, enchanting, mana absorption, disguise self as human, familiars, summoning, communing, binding, shamanism, etc.)

element 5: fortuna (fate: strange magic, it's spells themselves cast magical spells to ensure a specific event occurs once certain conditions are met, blessing/cursing, oaths/contracts - "if I lose this game I promise to eat my hat" "i'll hold you to that" - he loses the game, the magic takes over, he eats his own hat, "if i give you a burger today, you must buy me two burgers tomorrow, if not, you become a newt" "agreed" - he doesn't buy the burgers the next day, and becomes a newt, "i curse you to be single until you kill your mother" no matter what she does, she is single until she kills her mother, "i bless you to roll 6 every time you take a sip of brandy" after taking a sip of brandy he always rolls six, etc.)

there is no real "elements", as these are all "elements" of the same reality, all of these are just names given to a part of the whole, they are all the same, and so these "elements" tend to bleed into each other, where the philosophy and math of fortuna, vira, and continua end, the physics, biology, psychology, and sociology of materia and anima begin. It's like a three-dimensional color spectrum, any area on it can have a circle drawn around it and be said to be a new "element" (just look for the commonalities).

>choose mage or warrior, player

>"warrior sounds boring, all you do is block and hit the enemy while mages get all sorts of cool stuff to mess around with"

>all magic is essentially a differently colored projectile, except maybe the occasional gimmick spell that doesn't have any fucking uses like reduced fall damage (in a game where the level doesn't doesn't ever require it or warriors can just jump down due to higher HP/defense or fall breaking skills)

Games seriously need to stop doing this.

The djinn fuckery was fun, but unfortunately magic in GS is horribly underpowered past the early game. You end up just using your default attack to get those powerful unleashes, and for free at that.

>The first magicka game was fun for experimenting with magic but the gameplay was a little boring

you mean extremely boring with shit controls and gameplay that is designed around 4-player co-op despite there being a single player campaign for some bumfuck retarded reason

>>15061306

>In practice, the gameplay boils down to remembering a handful of powerful combinations and using them almost exclusively

this is part of the reason why the game is so fucking boring, you figure out what combinations are effective out of the ten gorillion or so useless ones, then spam them for the rest of the game. it doesn't help that your character moves as fast as a landwhale stuck in the mud without its mobility scooter.
