– My favorite pokemon are Gardevoir and Absol. In most games, whenever I find a female Ralts or a female Absol in the wild, I always seem to add them to my team as soon as possible.
– Even though I enjoyed White the most out of the main series, I'll have to go with SoulSilver because of the nostalgia factor. It being a remake of my first game, Crystal.
– Pokken is my favorite spinoff game because its enjoyable battles are what I always imagined how real-time, 3D pokemon battles would play out.
– My favorite trainers are May and Red. May because she's the cutest pokegirl imo. Especially towards the end in Alpha Sapphire, where you have some genuinely heartwarming scenes with her. And Red because the final battle you have with him in Crystal is still the best. Taking on the protagonist from the previous game was just the most perfect way to end the Gen II games.
– My type-specific gym would be a Fairy-type gym. It sucks that I won't be able to use my Dark-type Absol, but the bright side is that there are a lot of cute Fairy pokemon to choose from. Gardevoir, Mawile, Alolan Ninetales, Sylveon, etc.

After not playing Pokemon since I was a child with Crystal I decided to load LeafGreen in my PSP and do a nuzlocke run.
Like, why not, I didnt know any english back then and I still steamrolled everything with my overly leveled Totodile, Im surprised I figured out things like Ditto breeding and such.
So far Im being overly chickenshit cautious, often resorting to healing items and trips to the nursery, and since I dont have the patience to grind low level pokemon on the grass most of the time I resort to exp swapping during trainer battles, so far so good, but I have a box in my PC full of retarded errors like sending my Onyx against an Ivysaur and getting one shot at the Gym, fugg.

Pokemon Reborn is probably the best that the core gameplay has to offer. Legitimately challenging without being stupid broken. Good god though the storyline is Tumblr on steroids. It makes Uncommon Time look like a literary masterpiece by comparison.
Pokemon Adventures: Red Edition is probably the height of romhacks. Has an actual story that follows the manga, has good gameplay, and is very solid all around.
Then you've got all of the usual recommended romhacks and fangames like Zeta/Omicron, Glazed, Fusion Generation, Gaia, etc. which are all kinda okay but not really amazing. The problem is that Pokemon gameplay itself is kinda boring as shit.

The manga is legitimately pretty good, and it's what the romhack is based on. Like I said though, the whole game is solid all around so it's worth a playthrough even if you just ignore all the story.

The pacing in the game is pretty good. Grinding isn't an option because your Pokemon will stop listening to you if their level is higher than the next gym (though you can feed them inexpensive items to lower their levels if you overlevel one by accident). Gyms are high in quantity so paths between gyms never feel overly long (though this becomes a bigger problem later in the game).
There is a bigger focus on switching mons in and out of your party as needed (building counter-teams to enemies as opposed to just picking six Pokemon early on that you plan to use for the rest of the game) but experience is never hard to come by so grinding isn't that tough.
All I can really say is to play it. Give it three hours and if it doesn't catch your interest then drop it, because the first three hours are pretty good at giving you an idea for how the rest of the game plays out. Just keep in mind the story is completely retarded and if you pay attention to it even ironically it will lower your opinion of the game. This is one of the things that the first three hours is a bad example of. The first three hours of story are dumbfuck stupid but it only gets worse later on.

Are they though? They felt like quasi-main entries if you ask me. Sure, they were unorthodox pokemon adventures that were definitely different from the traditional handheld titles (the main series). But any and every pokemon you snagged or got in these games (your starters, any shadow pokemon you purified, any wild/gift pokemon) could still be transferred over to/from the Gen 3 handheld games if you wanted to. Or possibly even be traded all the way up modern Gen 7 games if you like.

I enjoyed Pokemon Island most, but it aged poorly and I find some dev decisions questionable. No attack animations, getting berries/fossils being complete pain in ass to get and to use super rod successfully you need crazy reflex.
Phoenix Rising is worth something to look at, but it's early alpha - 0.1.2 version to be exact.
Pokemon Reborn has very good gameplay and the best terrain effects I saw in pokemon game, but everything else in it is fucking cancer.

I made a fun way to play. Probably been done before:
-Roll a d10 and a d8
The resulting number is the main type for your first pokemon.
-Take the corresponding number of pokemon that have that as their main type and roll the corresponding amount of dice (or number generator) and the number you get is your starter.
-Pick 4 moves, your pokemon can only have these four moves the entire game and you can not change them
-Repeat the process everytime you defeat a gym.
Stipulations
-You may not catch any other pokemon
-You may only revive a pokemon 5 times.
- if pokemon dies you must return to an area that matches its type and release it. (You'll need a cheat that let's you access the computer anywhere)((if playing red or blue you can just release at lavender town))
-you must name your pokemon

It's been a while, but the last game I played was a romhack called Blaze Black2/Volt White2, upped the difficulty of the game and added all the pokemon up til Gen V to the game. I really enjoyed it and made me like the game a lot more because it was an actual challenge and made me put more thought into my team composition. Though it has some bullshit now and then.
I still need to complete it, but I like these kind of games better when I play them on-and-off and come back to them after a couple months.

There's two games coming out. Let's Go is basically Pokemon Go: Story Mode, and it's super casual shit. Gen 8 is coming out in 2019 and the only reason we know about it is because TPCi basically wanted to do damage control because people thought Let's Go was Gen 8 due to leaks. Don't hope for too much, Let's Go uses the same Pokemon models from Gen 6, 7, and Go because GF has finally standardized the Pokemon models, so Gen 8 will probably use them too. From what I've seen the biggest problems with the models are the fact that their battle animations are pretty simple and lazy for the most part. There's barely any personality. Archeops is a stand out Pokemon in this regard, since it flaps like it shouldn't be flying in the first place which is amusing to me. It's like they spent all the time making okay animations for Amie/Refresh, and walking animations for future proofing, while not giving a shit that the 3D models make the 3DS chug dicks and they don't even feel as good as fucking Stadium because they barely do anything. They could use slightly better textures too, but that's more up to taste.

hmmm I liked yellow, emerald, FR, SS, and gen 5 everything after that I think is slowly declining in quality for me. The game should encourage exploration and not be so linear all the time. Loved how they made where we don't need HM slaves and can have whatever kind of party you want in gen 7 but other than that was pretty disappointed. I love it if they make more pokemon for each gen now they barely make a 100 every gen now and when I want to go to a new region I want to use a team and see pokemon belonging to that region. The pokemon from the previous gens should come during the post game. Also the safari zone and supertraining need to come back and the IV shower for the PC in gen 7 needs to stay.

FFS battle tree haxx. Something like 30 cumulative turns as attracted to a milotic and only 4 turns my pokemons did something. I tried to burn with will o' wisp a dusknoir with leftovers 6 (six) times. If you meet musharna or gengar you better have the glass cannon ready or it's gg. That is bad game design, the player is absolutely helpless before that.
You face pokemons that counter your team. That's fine, it's perfect, the ai is shit, it needs some help. But the sheer amount of cheese the engine throws at you it's disgusting. And the more you go up, the more cheese.

For the battle facilities, the main problem is the RNG. For instance, on battle 11 in singles, you fight a Walrien with Sheer Cold (OHKO with 30% accuracy) with Quick Claw (this doesn't and never has existed this, this is just for example sake)(ignore the other two pokemon for now since they aren't as threatening). Now in standard PvP this strategy is fucking dumb and shouldn't be used because it's solely based on RNG. And the strategy fails and you win because either sheer cold misses, and/or quick claw doesn't activate. 11 battles the trainer (trainers are fixed with 5 pokemon each with those pokemon having about 4 or 5 different sets) returns with the same fucking Walrein, only this time Quick Claw AND Sheer Cold hit all 3 times decimating your team. So you lost at 22 because fuck you, should've brought sturdy. Doubles and such go much more in your favor without much effort.
TLDR: You have to be a luckshitter or use teams that the AI can only rely on RNG bullshit to win in singles.

As a note as another thing it starts to do is reading your inputs and generating teams to counter yours, i think it takes awhile to do that however.

Technically ganguro was such a new concept during the development of Gen 1 that if I had to guess, the influence is minimum. Indeed, the index numbers (if they are in any sort of chronological order, which given the similarities to this list of Pokemon being voted on from the Satoshi Tajiri biography manga is entirely possible) show that it was number 72, midway through development at the earliest. Given how long Pokemon took to develop that could mean anything though. I'd say that yama-uba is almost certianly the biggest influence, maybe a tad bit of minstrel show, maybe some ganguro, it really could be anything.

It's less reading your inputs and more the game understands exactly how every single move, ability, and stat works. In addition, the game seems like it is cheating because all RNG is determined at the start of the battle. What basically happens is the game looks at your party, picks a team good against you, and picks and RNG seed that looks pretty good for them. All you have to do is offset the RNG somehow by calling it a lot and it will change how things work. Theoretically at least. Basically play through the Battle Tower in Gen 3 or 4 while using save states, see what happens.

Bought Sun when it came out, played to completion, was really a grind sometimes due to the linear and railroady level design and the forced dialogue every 10 feet

Ultra Sun/Moon's main problem is that everybody already bought Sun/Moon. On it's own, the Ultra games are a straight upgrade, but SM had such an awful main game that it's hard to sit through most of it. I suggest beating Ultra Sun when you get a chance. Granted, I didn't give a shit about Lillie or her family because it was stupid, so when the Ultra Recon Squad basically called Lusamine retarded I was glad that the game gave up on trying to tell a story entirely. That having been said, there's one other character that you didn't mention that comparatively gets a lot of development in Ultra Sun. Actual spoilers here it turns Hau from the second worst rival in the franchise (after every single rival from XY) to the second best rival in the franchise (after good old Blue/Green/Whatever). Then again I consider Bianca pretty high tier because despite being bad at Pokemon battling, she realized it and decided that she'd be a researcher instead. Compare that to Cheren who says he wants to be strong but jobs constantly and really doesn't know what he's doing until B2W2 reveals he became a gym leader. Actually the big problem with most rivals in the Pokemon franchise is that they have to job constantly because if they don't you won't make any progress, and after Barry they're afraid of making them remotely difficult, Hau's Raichu being tough if you don't have a good team notwithstanding.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope. While Masuda is busy with Let's Go, Ohmori is probably working on Gen 8. Not to mention they probably won't be anywhere near hitting their stride until midway through Gen 8 at the soonest, if what I know about the quality of Pokemon games is close to accurate. It took then until fucking HGSS to make a really good Pokemon game, at least in my opinion. Gen 5 was a really high quality generation, even if they were a bit heavy story and blatantly linear. And then they made the move to 3D and all the 2D skills they built up were completely useless. I don't expect a really good Pokemon game until Gen 10, and it will definitely be a third version or remake (in other words, not directed by Ohmori or Masuda). I'm probably going to pirate Gen 8 unless Switch piracy has near zero chance of online compatibility, and even then I'll probably pirate it then buy it used later.

Well there's very little text or NPC trainer data, and a lot of things are just plain broken. It would probably be easier to port the assets to the Gen 1 or 2 engine, especially since they have disassembles. That having been said, getting a chance to unfuck an incomplete Pokemon game is something only Iwata has done before, so if you're up to the challenge go right ahead.
