Last Stand, the two expansions, and the switch to Steam saved their asses on the game. DoW 3 which was MOBA Starcraft 2 shit killed them by alienating both DoW 1 and DoW 2 fans, none of the depth or gritty battle, not even modders could save the game. Relic fucked up hard.

Probably because it wasn't widely reported on and Rare were always tight lipped with the press. I don't think it wasn't until Nuts and Bolts that people connected the dots and noticed the people who made gold at Rare on the SNES and N64 were long gone after the Microshit buyout.

It was a shitty indie dev, but Sunset, the only game ever released by Tale of Tales, did the trick. For those not in the know, Sunset was a walking simulator about being a black cleaning lady for some rich guy during social turmoil in some third world shithole. I think it was Bro Team Pill who described the game as "so pretentious it just gave me a film degree." The game sold like shit, so the SJW devs went on a twitter tiraide where they repeatedly said things like "fuck gamers" and blamed capitalism and entitled, bigoted gamers for the game's failure.

It wasn't finished on release since 3DO went bankrupt during or right after production so it got kicked out the door. It was nigh unplayable even after getting patched multiple times simply due to bugs everywhere
There's been a ton of fan patches and "restorations" since then though and it's not nearly as bad as it was
