One of the primary problems that I've had with a lot of the games that try to be "2deep4U" is that they shoot themselves in the foot by trying to be all coy with their "There is no correct answer" approach, and refuse to say or do anything concrete because it may piss off one section of the fanbase due to their interpretation being wrong. Or, they play the game of the player "possibly" being in Purgatory (Like their entire storywriting career came from an inspiration they had while watching all of Lost). All the games displayed in the OP are examples of this.
What are some games that defy this pit and actually manage to be good?
d210ee No.15032098
absolutely none of them. The pursuit to be "intellectual" means that the person in charge is a hack who will always overextend what he can write/do in order to prove that he's actually the smartest fuck you kevin.

Don't. If you've beaten it three times already, and are extremely reluctant to return to it, all you're doing is torturing yourself. For me, one playthrough was enough of that game.
>I thought Thomas Was Alone was a fun game, but I've been told it's pretentious garbage.
It's just a really simply game, with a simple story, and by a creator who thinks he's God's gift to the wold as some big proponent for the consumers. However, the guy is actually extremely anti-GG, so that shows you how much of a crock he is.

I haven't beaten it once. The game is long and slow and nothing happens. The furthest I got was somewhere underground with a monster behind a wall or some shit, it was several hours in and the first moment where I felt like I was making progress. Then I got bored and turned the game off.

But there's an actual complex and difficult game to go along the batshit insane writing. It's obviously not for everyone but it's amazing.

The Void's drawing is way more precise than it should be but there are patterns the game will recognize reliably, and they can be learned. The worst thing about the game, though, is that it's trial and error to the fucking max, you can know everything there is to know about the system and still waste time or color because you have to execute everything perfectly on top of that.
I truly believe going into it blind and reaching the end in one playthrough to be completely impossible. And if you don't like the idea of time limits, the whole experience is nerve-wracking. The environments and aesthetics are dreamy and beautiful, but the game itself is brutal as fuck.

Doesn't really change the fact that the whole system expects rigorous management of every factor with pitfalls around every corner, and I always reach a point where it just becomes too much for a worrywart like me. It hits you in the head several times during the plot, seems the devs thought the player would be as braindead as the protagonist.
Also the plot reeks of "babby's first identity crisis", and the "choices" are laughable.
All in all, if it's your first approach to those concepts, you will enjoy the game.

surpisingly the story elements outside of the main quest are pretty good in tes games. For example I played oblivion a few weeks ago and one of the cities have a immigrant kajiit problem and the Countess wants to get rid of them and replace diversity with only imperials. As far as I know it's an issue that's represented fairly neutral and isn't even a quest, just information you can find out by listening to people. the player can decide who's right and wrong it's left open for that. kinda impressive that immigration and colonialism is addressed in a 2005 game.

No, Skyrim isn't deep and any depth is leftover legacy established from prior Elder Scrolls games. They were essentially just using already established Gnostic metaphysics Aedra and Daedra are essentially Aeons and related thought, whose form was repackaged into the Elder Scrolls universe. Morrowind's CHIM and Dagoth Ur's usurpation of the emanation itself is incredibly brilliant. The delivery of it is done well also, where the entire Elder Scrolls universe is very clearly ordered around the purported metaphysics but it's only apparent if you pick up the threads laid around and investigate it. If you don't then most of what you're doing isn't contextualized properly and is shallow compared to the truth of what's really happening because there are key allusions to things above that level of understanding which are pivotal.
Skyrim just carries on with already established archetypes but doesn't use them for anything interesting other than that they exist as themes.
