Yakuza 6 got some flak from the japs because it [legit spoilers here] involved haruka getting knocked up by a chinese kid and as kiryus (and by extension the players) surrogate daughter this was frustrating after spending 5 games protecting her There's also the factor that yakuza 6 is using an entirely new engine so it lacked some polish that we saw in yakuza 0 which was probably the apex of it's old engine. It's not a bad game by any means but it's a little weaker than its counterparts and some think that they shouldn't have used a mainline title to test the new engine on.

They defend him for two reasons:

A. DmC was their chance to show they have so much influence, that they could make a reboot of a popular series, that's unpopular with the series' fans, more successful than the original.

B. It was their chance to "prove" that that the west was "better" than Japan at their own game.

For the journos, DmC's success meant showing their superiority. When it failed, it was a very stark look into how little influence they actually have with consumers. So they cling to it, trying to find every little excuse as to why DmC's failure had nothing to do with DmC, or their own efforts, and everything to do with how mean and unfair the DMC fanbase supposedly is. While bribes most definitely played a part, like >>15032527 says, bribes don't explain why they would still defend it, long after Capcom has obviously lost interest in continuing DmC. First, it's not, it's about style, but also Ninja Theory's idea of "attitude" seems to amount to behaving like gigantic dickheads, and then doubling down when everyone tells them they're being dickheads. Making DmC another origin story was retarded since DMC3 did it perfectly, in DMC3 Dante's emotions are quite and reserved at first but you completely understand what he goes though by the end, and you see how he comes out a better person, Dante is rarely selfish and that is important because you know Dante is so powerful he can get anything he wants at any time though shear force. instead Dante is actually a selfless character, he is someone who does the right thing just because it's the right thing to do, he knows how loss can impact someone so he works to insure that can't happen to others.

DmC Dante on the other hand is completely selfish, nothing he does is out of his own good will, he's pretty much forced into every action he takes. Dante has zero Agency in DmC it really feels like if he had a choice he would go "fuck it" and just leave, it's impossible for me to think Dante cares about anyone besides himself, but the game has him state these things out right, to insure no he's not a shitty person, yet i don't believe the words that comes out of his mouth, he just makes bold statements about freedom and right and wrong but never demonstrates an understanding of what he's claiming.

Yeah I beat 1 and 3 earlier this week. I learned after the fact that the NA version of DMC1 was actually harder than the Japanese release, and the Japanese release has X to jump instead of the bizarre choice of Triangle. I played DMC 3 SE via the HD collection, might actually replay DMC 1 on that collection now since I know it is just a re-translating of the Japanese version meaning the difficulty is normal and X is jump.

That depends on what you consider to be Regular Dante, IMO Dante is pretty different in all of his appearances, I think this is justified due to the fact that the games take place a decent number of years apart from each other, so Dante like any other person changes over the course of this life.

But I think it fit, given how dour and depressed he seems in the anime and novels a lot of the time. I mean, the DMC anime ends with Dante drinking alone in his office and obviously being rather depressed. Just look at him in the opening cutscene, how he's just killing demons in disguise without really caring; he's just going through the motions. Not even Kyrie, an obvious human, falling in front of him gets any reaction. It's only when he meets Nero properly that he starts to goof around. Like, you can see through out the tutorial level how he's slowly starting to get into the fight, going from just stoically fighting to making quips.
