Far too hasty. As far as I can tell it's a remake as good as the SotC one where the original game is running as if the game logic were ported to the new platforms, exactly in tact, and with a second engine handling the visuals. It looks great, the hand drawn art is the only area where the could have possibly been a mistake but the animation is wonderful, both fluid, matching the original key frames, logic, and even adding secondary animation to greatly improve it, the new music is wonderful, and who knows it may result in a remake of Monster World IV one day.
Talking about it now makes me want to go home and replay it.

Yep, it takes the good from the original releases on PCE and Master System while discarding the bad. The hand drawn art feels more like the PCE art in style but the game offers the original SMS art as an option you can swap to at a button press. if this is what your main question is, then Hollow Knight would probably be the better choice. It has a longer gameplay time than Shantae's and sticks closer to the definition of what a "metriodvania" is when compared to the modern Shantae game. Although, I would argue that Shantae is a little more "complex" than Hollow Knight since the only real weapon in Hollow Knight is the nail you start with along with some magic attacks that are situationally useful.

The shy, wimpy bug girl is merely infatuated with the first person who did anything for her, and she immediately jumps ship when she finds someone, with the appearance of a knight, incredibly willing to talk her ears off. Hornet only helps the Knight because she also wants to destroy the Radiance, and the Knight is the only way it can happen. The guy who created the Knight, made Hornet, and orchestrated the whole plan to defeat Radiance is a white king who built a white kingdom with a white queen by bringing technology and civility to bugs that were barely better than animals. The Radiance's entire goal is to destroy said white kingdom and bring all the bugs back to their old, animalistic selves. Nearly every single intelligent character has a white face or wears a white mask. The Radiance is the only white thing in its own forces, with every other enemy either being wildlife, infected normal bugs, or one of the tribal mantises. The infection it spreads turns people crazy, gives them huge orange boils, turns their insides to orange goo, and eventually kills them. The infection even occasionally takes a life of its own. The blackest things in the game, all the knights made out of void, are explicitly said, by the game, to be soulless, emotionless husks.
Your arguments devolve to "these characters are love interests because they're meant to be female adn show any amount of positive emotions towards the Knight" and "it's anti-white because most of the bugs in the gloomy, dark setting are gloomy, dark colors and the final boss, whose name is literally "Radiance", happens to be white, never mind the incredibly white king who's its number-one enemy". Saying "it's subtle" doesn't mean anything. It's arguing that something, that no one else sees there, is there, but we just can't see it. There's nothing substantial to it, you're just claiming ignorance on the part of your opponents without providing evidence to why they're wrong.

You don't have to save Bretta, and you can leave Zote to die without ever talking to him. Zote is very clearly a bootleg version of the Knight, as well. He's not a counter-part; he's a cliche faker character like Fake Crash. And the Knight, itself, is utterly devoid of any emotional reaction to anything. It's blanker than a Link-style silent protag. Of all the NPCs, Bretta is closest to seeming like a love interest, but that falls apart as soon as she moves onto her next infatuation. That's all her feelings are ever shown to be: infatuations. Again, it's more one-sided than Sonic and Amy, and that's hardly a love-interest relationship.

Hollow Knight is unironically pozzed, the devs are probably good goyim SocJus types. Off the top of my head, they gender swapped Clotho from male to female (without changing the design), and there's a quest where you hook up two faggots, and another where you help a dyke put flowers on her dead girlfriends grave. That having been said, it's a solid fun game, and the poz not even 1% of the content. It's just some tacked on bullshit the devs added at the last moment, clearly just for virtue signaling and pandering purposes to show how progressive they are.
