So i was rewatching the end to Dragonball Super earlier and it was typical shonen end of a shows run stuff. Big bad guy gets beaten up by heroes that find one last reserve of strength and you know its the final fight because the main theme or some variant plays while it happens.
But when was the last time you saw a videogame do this at any point? I think maybe Revengeance was the last for me but even then its been so long i can't remember if it was the theme, before that MGS4 was the last 'beat the shit out of the villain as the theme plays' victory lap sequence i can say for sure and that was ten years ago.
Theres other games that use music well in fights like Nier Automata but are there any games on any platform this gen that uses the 'peak GAR moments' anymore?

a few minutes ago in yakuza 0. Game does it all the time. Even for shit like answering a phone. This kinda stuff is really common in Japanese games, part of what defines their appeal is they actually want you to have fun.

Yakuza 4 was the first game in the series I actually beat and I can still remember getting fired up as For Faith kicked in. Only to be disappointing by arguable the worst final boss in the series.

For all the shit MGS4 did wrong, that entire last segment was really fucking cool.

>ocelot drags you up, heals you with nanomachines for the last fight
>goes through the soundtrackss of all games as ocelot changes his fight style
>ends up with the calm old snake song with you and ocelot, both dying old men, caught in past wars
also, the bosses were really cute
MGR was also pretty good, I like how in the fight against colgate, when you go for your last attack it skips to the fast paced solo of the song, really makes the scene great.

I enjoyed myself while playing the game but cannot look back on it without being annoyed at what it has become. That's the best thing about SRW. You have to the watch good stuff to enjoy it 100%, and that's not a bad requirement.
SRW got me into super robots, and I avoided the subgenre like fire before because I was a "muh realistic robots" fag.
The OG games are fine to play without watching anything, though.

Each time you start up Persona 5 you are greeted by the opening, a minute and a half-long animation with game's main theme. The game begins with a cold open during a casino heist, at the end of which you are caught. After that the rest of the game is then framed as your character being interrogating. On the last day of each heist a special instrumental theme plays. When you finally return to the casino, the vocal version of the song plays on the last day of the heist, and the events begin to repeat themselves. To top it off, the vocal version's lyrics are a direct response to those of the opening theme (ex: "Wake up get up get out there"/"So you know that we're out there") and share some of the melody.
Later there's also a boss fight with 6 or so stages, during the latter of which the boss pulls a Senator Armstrong and the lyrics for his boss theme kick in
Pretty cool stuff, but Persona 5 can also be considered last gen since it was on PS3 too.

The original Akiba's Trip had a really nice ending (one of the 3 possible ones anyways) where if you did the sidequests the weird eccentric people you helped would show up to help you fight your way through the three way melee in the streets so you can get to the final boss. Though the game is 8 years old now, and not that "modern" anymore.

Now that I think about it, the Danganronpa games do this. The Climax Return that plays when explaining all the details behind a murder is just a modified version of the Danganronpa main theme. Since V3 is current gen game that counts.
For older games, Ace Attorney 3 brings back the first game's Pursuit theme when squaring off against the mastermind of the final case, and the Gen 5 Pokémon games played the main Pokémon theme when a gym leader was down to their last Pokémon.
