How do I get into this series? Should I start with SoC or should I just play CoC?

Start with ShoC, patch it and install ZRP. This will give you vanilla experience without most of the bugs. Feel free to skip Clear Sky, it's not particularly great and you can always play it later if you want some more stalkan. Vanilla CoP is nice, if lacking in story and atmosphere compared to ShoC.

After you're done with those come back and we will talk mods.

Play SoC and CoP (and maybe some of Clear Sky) first for the lore, atmosphere and stories. Then play CoC. You will enjoy CoC a lot more if you have played the other games first.

That's kinda what i like about CoP, at least the lacking story part, within 5 minutes you're at the barge and can proceed to ignore the story and just go stalkan around

For what purpose? There is nothing wrong with clear sky by itself for the exception of bugs that never really bothered me more than vanilla SoC or CoP. Well sure, the ending sequence is a bit underwhelming, but I bet not everyone even reached the SoC true ending stage so I don't really see the reasoning behind the advice, since it's still vanilla stalkan.

It's both as long as you can manage to make it not crash constantly.

Basically it prolongs the hobo phase and by extent the balanced middle ground, that is before becoming the killing machine of rape, which in my opinion it does fine work of.

You probably need to enjoy hoarding and to play a dozen of other mods before diving in to be able to enjoy misery that is your existence on this planet earth.
