I'm doing DmC first just to get it over with. It's honestly not AS bad as a I remember but it's still bad. The writing is absolute trash and the characters all look like meth addicts.

However the gameplay is still pretty decent. It's not as good as DMC4 for sure, but it's still better than say God of War or Darksiders easily.

I can't git gud with Dante in 4. I just don't get how you keep the flow going. Hero can just snatch enemies from across the room but the best option most of the time for Dante seems to be using trickster to move around wicker but it feels wrong. I feel like I am kissing a piece of the puzzle but I feel so limited and rebellion has only two combos. Does Rebellion get gore combos?

Dante is weird to play with, always was in all the games. That's why they made Nero the way they did. He's much more streamlined and intuitive. His air combo is an actual combo instead of just helmbreaker.

Basically you have to use swordmaster to combo stuff and you kind of have to get used to holding your hand on the D-Pad to switch over to trickster for a teleport and then switch back. It takes a lot to get used to not having to feel like you need to have your hand on the analog stick all the time though.

I don't like playing Dante. It just feels like you knock stuff away from you and then you stinger in and knock them away even more lol.

It's also why I don't really like DMC3, because you're locked to styles so either you get to play the game and have moves you can actually combo with by going swordmaster or you play one of the other ones.

DMC4 started with a dev time of 2 years which was later cut to 1 year as I remember it. There's lots of rumours about what was meant to be in that game. A full DT for Nero, Dante going through the layers of hell. Lucifer, Pandora and Gilgamesh were all meant to be their own bosses that Dante would beat to get the weapon counterparts DMC3 style. I'm not sure how much of it is true but I think most of this stuff is pulled from the DMC4 art book.

They'd basically turn it into a new game if they did add all the stuff Dante was meant to do rather than just having him go back through Nero's levels. I'm playing for the first time, starting with DMC1 of course. The controls are a bit tough to get used to, Type B seems better to go with. I figured going with emulating the PS2 version would be best, but if can you rebind controls better in the PS3/4/PC ports? I might jump to those if I can.

I'll probably replay DMC 1 and 4, which are the ones I haven't played in the longest time. Lately I have been playing Bayonetta. I love it but I have always though on how they compare to each. I always though that while Bayonetta was better in general than DMC4, its combat system wasn't as deep. But it has been a while so I may remember things bad. What is your opinion, how to they compare? Also after DMC5 and Bayonetta 3 I want a DMCxBayonetta game. It has to happen.

How so? Visuals are completely different, where DmC looked like your normal oversaturated UE3 garbage, which colors bleeding everywhere. DMC5 is photorealistic and with a much darker colorset. Hell, I'd even argue that DMC5 looks more realistic in that DmC looked like those UE3 Alice games. The environments are especially different, since in DmC you constantly went into limbo and the city-scape looked like a hipster's idea of a city(like the pier or the orange-eye bleed city street bit), whereas in the trailer you're constantly in a city. Hell, it looks more like MGR's city levels than anything else.

Character design is nothing alike, since for one no one looks like a dirty hobo or like they're melting plastic. At most you can say that in both DmC and DMC5 so far everyone is kind of ugly, but the reasons for that are completely different. In DmC they chose to make those characters, here it's the same problem as with RE7 in where they're going for face mocap and photorealism which goes straight into uncanny valley. So completely different reasons. Plus, the clothing designs are completely different; DmC tried to be punk while DMC5 is going for that cutting edge Eurofashion-look.

Gameplay-wise? Lock on is back(see dodge roll and running around the stomach demon bits), we have DMC4 Nero combos plus new things, the enemy designs are from earlier games and there's none of the color coded trash from DmC which killed combos.

In my somewhat limited experience, MT Framework is great on PC unless it's Dragon's Dogma, which has bizarre and unexplained performance issues in the port. My PC is no slouch, there was no reason I should have been able to get above 55fps in that game. Come to think of it though, I recently upgraded my GPU so maybe I can brute force the performance now, I'll have to give it another look.

I personally wish DmC was its own thing that we could have memed on without completely hating it. It was a pretty decent little action game.
