The AI is shit and you literally require mods to truly expand without catastrophe. Not only will your services travel to foreign suburbs across the highway, they won't even properly do their job logically like picking up dead bodies in the same street sequentially but may use a first-come, first-served system where they can travel in between entire districts. It ruins EVERYTHING.

Districts allows you to restrict services to each district (as well as education and work) so if you place a hospital in each district and set restrictions you won't have ambulances going across the entire map to get to a patient.

58365e No.15003461

I can deal with the retarded traffic but when roads won't even fucking connect it simply enrages me. Any slight bump on the terrain can fuck up a road, and suddenly you have uneven and divided tiles so lol no high level buildings. Even if you flatten out all the map you can still run into problems, road connection is garbage. The fact that freeplacing roads is a clunky mess doesn't help either, if you want an overpass be prepared to waste 20 minutes deleting roads, buildings, placing and then deleting everything again as it either autoconnects to the wrong place or it won't connect at all.

In the end your city becomes a rollercoaster looking shithole of jammed highways. And why the fuck do people require 4 times as much land to work and shop as they do to live? Do their fucking children work too? Why do i need 3 offices, 4 malls and oilfields as far as the eyes can see to satisfy the jobs and needs of a family? Fuck.

But how do you fix that? How do you make a convincing traffic system that paths to arbitrary locations; avoids traffic jams; and does this for an entire city's worth of cars, pedestrians, and bikes all with a small computing budget? And why do I get the feeling that most people who complain about traffic jams in city builders are gridfags with no sense for good transportation design?

The only road issues I have are with the way proximity to public services are calculated. It's impossible to have interesting neighborhoods that are connected to schools and firehouses, even if they're relatively close. I guess you could connect all your roads with footpaths and bike lanes but that becomes a huge pain very quickly. Crime will just magically appear in wealthy suburbs because a cop didn't want to go all the way to the end of a cul-de-sac.

Reduced the number of tram lines going through The Circle, that was clogging traffic pretty bad. Proceeded to clean up the routes and install new ones. Expanded the highway onramp tunnels into actual highway lanes, that cleared up traffic pretty effectively, as did replacing onramps with one-way roads in a few places. Moved the Launch Site to the industrial sector, it actually finished building and launched a rocket. And of course continued to add residential and commercial.

I started playing Banished with the colonial mod. I don't understand all the people who call this game "comfy". This game is the opposite of comfy. The spectre of famine always looms in the distance, waiting for something to go wrong. You're constantly pressured to expand aggressively to build up a stockpile to ward off doom, but all that does is encourage more people to make babies. Then with more mouths to feed, you've got to expand even faster. All the while, you're eyes are locked to the food stockpile count, and every year you get a little less than before. Famine creeps ever closer while you start sweating bullets, unsure of how to put off the slow, yet inevitable catastrophe on the horizon.

build a city hall and monitor food consumption and production via the annual charts. Since you aren't guessing its much easier to make sure you have enough food stocked.

Build pastures, even the biggest ones only need 3 herdsmen at most and they are very good at feeding large populations with low labor.

I personally don't like orchards because they produce less and take a lot longer to grow. Though they provide wood, not enough to ever be meaningful.

For mines and quarries you don't want to build those until late game because they will increase your death rate substantially. You can easily import steel tools and coal to produce the amount you need yourself.

What are you looking at the last ten years for goddamn nigga, you only need to compare last two years population and food consumption to forecast current years.

If you want to you can also work out which commodity you produce the most of and check how many you have working on each resource.

Also for the food graph you only need to know the peak consumption for each year and what population that was at. So set it to the last 3 years at most.

If you work out, hey last year my nerds ate 12000 food, and the population was 100, but this year the population is higher so I need to produce at least another 3000 to be safe. Also don't get confused about production, a lot of buildings display their production in per season instead of per year and they don't always produce all seasons. I'm stupid and don't understand graphs so it took me a while to figure that out.

Also keep in mind that some things increase in yield over time. For example pastures while they are growing to the maximum herd size produce very little food. If you don't have enough labor, close down the low production facilities.

Anyway from that graph your annual peak consumption never rose above 9000, so as long as you produce at least 10000 units of food a year you shouldn't ever have famine. I recommend producing double and storing it though, you will save yourself a lot of trouble in case a disaster strikes that disrupts your production. Having a year or two buffer will help a lot. Pretend spoilage doesn't exist.

That graph is food production by the way, not consumption if you were assuming.

This should help a little with what I'm talking about.

Ah, I see. This is way more helpful. I guess I need to keep increasing food production because food consumption is just about caught up with my production.

Sim City is the best franchise, skyline is for cucks who like "pretty" graphics without the actual parts of a city builder that make it enjoyable

Because Skylines was made by retarded SJW devs

The traffic AI is a dumpster fire. Sim City 2000/3000/4 were abstract in their traffic simulation, but at least it was fucking functional. Skylines can be an interesting sandbox, but the actual game mechanics are pure shit.

The Agent system was a serious mistake. It was so limiting that SC2013 was basically forced to change the franchise from realistic-scale to the building of "toy cities" that were the size of dollhouses. Skylines went the opposite direction, allowing bigger maps but you can't have any appreciable density (mostly because transit takes up so much space) as the game malfunctions once you get over a couple million population and the Agent cap hits.

Even with the limited scope of SC2013, pirates cracked open the game and found it didn't simulate every agent (which was the entire justification for the MUH CLOUD COMPUTING scam). It was mostly smoke and mirrors. The fucking retards fudged the population numbers to make players think they have more sims than they actually do. These fake sims had no jobs, no homes, didn't use streets and didn't pay taxes, but they still racked up service costs. And that is to say nothing of the numerous development shortcuts taken with the citizens that ARE simulated.

Yeah, Glassbox is a joke. Pretty to look at, but no substance at all to it. Also, cloud computing doesn't exist; it was just for multiplayer, which is honestly pretty limited and pointless in a game like this.

As for fudging numbers, if you mod Skylines to exceed the native <1 million population limit, it basically does the same thing. You can't have more than around 300,000 agents, so it requires a lot of tricky shit. You can get more growth of the city and build more, but it's kinda an illusion because not everyone can be out on the streets at once.
