After I cooled down a bit I don't hate it. The art direction is bad, but at least they are going back to the combat of 4 and the over the top tone the series had pre DmC.
I also think the reason the new female lead looks so bad is similar to why Quiet was so mediocre when it came to her face. I think they are mocapping the actors faces and just pasting them on the models, so Capcom probably found some 6/10 chick in Japan who they thought passed as hot, brought her in, and designed the character model after her. For instance, you'll notice Dante has the same nose as his actor.
I'd say I'm more optimistic about it now that I've thought about it. No matter what they do the art direction is going to be bad now, but the gameplay looks good and I don't mind where they took the story. It's neat seeing Nero work for Dante in a cheap Devil May Cry van.

The guy who took the arm was white, though. And most likely Vergil; if you look at the arm at the moment he grabs Nero, you can see the cuff things and his fingerless gloves. Then when Nero's on the ground and bleeding, you can see the boot straps on the silhouette.
Like noted earlier, Vergil probably came to get his fucking sword back and as usual just went straight for violence. Hoping this is set after DMC2, so Dante will have actually been in hell for who knows how long. Could be fun.
I think the style change has most to do with the change to the RE engine and using facial capture tech to save money, rather than a deliberate decision to change the style, since the action and gameplay still look the same.
Remember, this is Capcom; they're not about the poz, they're about making the most money for the least bit of effort. Think back how many times they've re-released games and then ask yourself whether or not they'd just make the game using the RE7 technology as a basis, instead of trying to upgrade something to look like DMC4.

I hope that the mechanical arm will just channel his demonic powers or some shit like that. At least seeing some of the attack animations looked like he was summoning the devil arm through electricity. The fucking aesthetics suck. The characters are ugly, the mechanic bitch is the most disgusting piece of shit I have seen in a while, the whole "neon" aesthetics and music is very cringy and kind of generic. Funny enough, asides for his fucking hairstyle, Nero is actually quite ok. He is the only one with a decent face in my opinion, even if he doesn't looks anything like in DMC4. His clothes have good elements (coat) and shitty ones (that fucking ugly-ass sweater he is wearing). The arm I don't like, there is no reason why the different modes couldn't be his devil arm evolving or something of the like that. Also it is the reason the fucking trashy cunt goes with him. I hope she doesn't appear much in the game proper. Yet so far the DMC gameplay seems to be there, but the whole thing is so surreal, I don't know what to expect.
