The combat is also total rubbish, you can't select any difficulty options as the difficulty is "tied to your choices [whether or not you'll drink the blood of civilians]" but no matter how many vampire hunters' or nosferatu knockoff 'skals' you drink the blood of it doesn't affect anything.
You don't need to even use the NPC xp boosts because the game is so piss easy you can breeze through the whole thing with an 'attack, dodge, attack' rinse repeat combo ad infinitum.

Gameplay
>Choices
Most choices with actual consequences give you no forewarning or imply that they will cut you off from getting all the 'hints' for the characters; instead you are left guessing which ambiguous response to whichever mundane statement the 2 dimensional NPC spits out will limit your ability to get achievements, XP and complete quests.
The main gameplay mechanic of choices is whether or not you kill NPCs for XP to make the game easier, but the game is already so easy doing this makes it retard casual gamer tier.
>Combat
The combat is unresponsive, janky and buggy. Dashing or dodging backwards often lands you stuck on a pole, bin or some other background obstacle, making it impossible for you to dodge the attack or move out of the corner. The attacks of NPCs are obviously telegraphed and when you have ample space can be dodged 100% of the time.
The combat includes a Witcher 3 Quen like shield which is OP as fuck and combined with maxing out the stamina (possible on a no-kill playthrough) you're practically invincible. There is no point to investing in the crafting system whatsoever because serums and upgraded weapons are not even necessary for even the toughest boss fights.
>Dialogue
Like telltale games or Dontnod's previous travesty life is strange the dialogue options often don't change anything and most of the time the options you are given are all completely identical, such as in pic-related. The dialogue tree refuses to let you stray from the political agenda of the developers.
>Hint hunting
The game's main source of XP is the NPCs and if you decide to kill them or not the bulk of the gameplay revolves around running after morsels of information like a bored menopausal woman flicking through tabloid magazines at the plastic surgeons' office. Most of the shit that is included in the pitiful excuse for a story involves you just exhausting all the dialogue options, perhaps finding a scrap of paper somewhere on the map and occasionally stalking them through a fucking window - eavesdropping on their problems/crimes. The NPCs never sound suprised or question how you go this information and when you confront them the overbearing 'mesmerise' mechanic where Dr Shekelstein booms at them demanding to know more about their knitting club is so jarring and immersion breaking it is amazing that the devs allowed it into the final version of the game.
There are many more issues with Vampyr, that I could rant all night on the topic. I ended up dropping it about half way through because even though the combat was rubbish I thought maybe there might have been some redeeming qualities in the story/dialogue. Unsurprisingly my hopes were unfounded.
