Rean is very much like the typical anime style MC. The looks are obvious, but there are a lot of other things. The high school setting of course only serves to make him more similar since that's an extremely common setting. He's got a harem, he's got the same generally submissive personality except that he's really determined when it comes to protecting his friends, he's technically noble but treats everyone the same regardless of class, he's idealistic to an absurd degree becoming depressed because he fails to save the life of a terrorist who, right or wrong, clearly had done a lot of bad things in the past, he's got a hidden dark side that is powerful but that he's afraid of because he's scared of losing control and hurting those he loves (complete with changing his hair color and making his voice "cool"), he's good at everything (granted, this one is partially because the player is in control, but compare to Estelle who clearly had flaws), he's the chosen one or something like that, he's got some sort of relation to the legendary emperor, possibly being a reincarnation or something and of course he uses a katana despite living in not-Germany. He has a ton of generic MC qualities. Hell, he's even adopted and with a little sister that wants to fuck him. Also her best friend is the princess who of course also wants to fuck him. I'm probably forgetting something too.
I heard that in CS3 and onwards he gets much more cynical which I would probably like, because while I'm a big fan of idealism, his brand of it is ridiculous. It makes sense for an idealist to become cynical too, even if it's probably more "I couldn't save everyone" in his case rather than "people are fucking shit and refuse to be good human beings".

I ran into similar issues in my attempt to learn Japanese a few years ago. Despite what some anons claim, learning Japanese is quite the task, anyone claiming you can do it in a year is full of shit, you can MAYBE pull that off with spoken Japanese. If you're a wageslave you'd have to burn up years of free time to learn it and vidya is kind of a shitty reason to justify that much time and effort. I'd rather go without and play other games, and games in general are getting shitty enough to where I honestly see myself leaving the hobby behind altogether within the next few years. The cat 1/2 languages tend to be those that still use identifiable roman lettering and only require learning a sound system/pronunciations before learning vocabulary and grammar.

Falcom is an AA company and Ys VIII looks like a high budget game for them
Low budget are all those dungeon crawlers on the Vita, Ys VIII is at least middling budget and it should have been able to handle it fine as the Vita handles it quite well and that thing is a potato in terms of specs compared to the Switch, and the resolution is only slightly higher on the Switch too
I'm willing to bet this is NIS/A's fault more than anything, especially since Falcom provided a better-functioning port for the PC when NIS started localizing and they actively broke and ruined things that were fine
It also happened with Durante's fixes after the fact; this has nothing to do with the Switch and everything to do with the company that is porting. That Switch version looks worse to me than the Vita version

Probably already been posted, but last month Falcom announced that they'd be releasing Sen 3&4 in traditional Chinese and Korean through Sony, same as the first 2. They also announced a release date for the PS4 versions of 1&2 on August 18, but only said they'd give a release date for 3&4 "soon". Since these languages usually get this sort of news first, I wouldn't expect any U.S. news yet.
