Mr. Oh No I Make Ze Bad Game's games (I call them that because Cage calls his works exactly what they are, interactive movies, and gets legitimately upset when people refer to them as just games) got successful for most of the same reasons, though unlike Uncharted people have begun rightfully shitting on them because some e-celebs have made playthroughs mocking them.

Heavy Rain was pretty cool honestly. It was hours of pissing, showering and torture porn with the occasional fight scene and mystery solving. Best VA I've played in a long time.

Thanks to scripted cut-scenes you can look like an action hero bad-ass while moving through scripted "oh no, the ledge is crumbling, phew!, barely made it" platforming while putting in next-to-zero effort.

There's a webm of a guy playing Uncharted literally without looking and his friend is giving him vague directions on what to do and the game does the rest and "interprets" his input in to magically doing everything right.

It's about looking like you're doing something without ever doing something. Just like social justice. It's not wonder there's such a huge cross-over.

Not really, but that's because I don't pay attention to franchises I don't care about. Maybe Doom, but just the first game since it was shilled so much on /v/ I decided to check it out, and it sucks. The other games in the series might be good, I don't know.

I mean there's just not much to the game. It wasn't even real 3D. "Aiming" is just horizontal. I've played Duke Nukem 3D a really long time ago, and there's nothing Doom 1 has over it. True 3D, more and cooler guns, an actual character, powerups (jetpack!), better levels (can't do much with fake 3D)…

Maybe you elaborate why is doom 1 still alive? And Duke apparently isn't (partially due to Bitchford but still…).

That is the most casual shit I have ever heard, A first person shooter isn't good because of 'cool guns', 'true 3d', 'powerups' or 'having a character'. Doom was great because of the amazing level design (not counting chapter 3), sound design, fast-paced action and incredible gunplay. Duke3d is a great game but saying it's level design is better than Doom is simply wrong, Doom's levels are designed to be fun for the player to go through while Duke's levels tried to make them feel like real places.

Because the gameplay is perfect and simple enough for anyone to make a level for and also because the game is very easily moddable due to the source code being officially released to the public in 1996.

Meh, I don't hate on Heavy Rain. Yeah, it's not much of a game but at least it full-on advertises itself as an interactive movie, and isn't a long-established genre poisoned with "cinematic feeling".
