I played the series when it was still relatively new, the inner workings of the AI were pretty neat to fool around with. Basically it was a networked neural network, the brains were neat little state machines that had sensory lobes populated by the game engine every "tick".
All that said… the community was an early wellspring for weird shit on the internet, founder of wikifur was clearly a huge fan. Some people abused their positions of power over the input of these specs of cockroach brains and had them fight in cage matches and shit
First game I've ever modded as well, the programming language was like if x86asm and Basic had a butt baby I'm not kidding. If you want to figure out how the brains work the hard way… well just turn on all the mutation flags on everything in that organ (pretty sure it's near the end of genome in the exodus genomes).

The exact story was a small village became in a constant state of extreme wind, so extreme it had to be evacuated; the storm-like conditions were localised to this one small village and didn't affect the surrounding areas. Your character worked at a meteorological agency and tries to figure out what's going on. It gets all sorts of strange Lovecraft themes as it goes on but I never beat it.

For some reason, in the 90s, Mr. Pibb ran a promo at McDonald's where they were giving away copies of a generally mediocre Doom clone on floppy disk. I played it a couple times but never finished it, then I lost the floppy.
Years later I managed to find the company responsible, got in touch with them, and eventually they emailed me a copy of the game. I was able to finish it this time, but it was pretty much not worth it. Janky and weird controls (just look at this shit; Home to jump?), zero challenge up until the last few minutes (instakill lava pits + awful movement controls is not a recipe for success), and some pretty terrible sound design. But what do you expect for a free game advertising soda?
At any rate, you can see for yourself. Just grab DOSBox and load this shit up:

Yeah I beat the whole thing. Really tough game at the higher difficulties - requires careful avoiding of damage and consideration of when and where you spend the money.
Nice weapon variety and in-depth storyline that I didn't care about. Great soundtrack too (got it on my mp3 player). Only issue is it didn't feel like "open world" at all. You mostly just do missions. It isn't like GTA at all. Wasted potential.

A bunch of obscure games I played were these. I think specially the game Fallen Lords Condemnation is the more obscure of these. It was an action game in which you took three sides, Angels, Demons, or Undead/Souls, or something like that. You could take control of I think any kind of troop from your army (Yes, From General to the lowest soldier of it) And the game was about destroying the enemy armies, or fortress. It was an action game+strategy game, like the game Sacrifice, in which you ordered your troops to attack the enemy. Damn, I cant find much information of this game now, must have been forgotten fast. Lets see if I can get a download link from it. Also, Ienjoy extra derp cover-box.
