There isn't much to city management or really anything else, it's about setting yourself up early and riding off it (such as Cravers) or snowballing (such as Horatio). Games generally boil down to spawn luck and planning ahead with your win state in mind.
I haven't played multi in any of them but found the singleplayer to be fun, if a bit time-inefficient. They feature similar mechanics so if you've played one you can pick up the others easily. Be aware that there's quite a bit of extra content locked behind (((DLC))).

There are two fully fledged campaigns, sadly both as allies. One is russkies on the eastern front, one is americans on the west front, mostly about the battle of the bulge.
Then there are four single player "war theatres" where you can play as Wehrmacht or soviets. One about Operation Barbarossa, one about Fall Blau, one about Stalingrad and one about the italian front in 1943. Then you have multiplayer, skirmishes against AI and coop against AI.

Here's a couple more recommendations, Steamworld Heist and Steamworld Dig 2.
Heist is a 2D turn based tactics game, its gimmick is similar to the Worms games where you have to aim trajectories and bullets, map design is space ships so richochets are brought into the mix. It's very fun and there's a slight degree of randomization and plenty of team combinations for replay value.
Steamworld Dig 2 is a metroidvania. At first it plays off like a prettier looking Motherload, but more and more upgrades start making movement a blast. A grappling hook, jetpack, grenade jumping, wall jumping, etc. The game's pretty damned fun with both the platforming "dungeons" and the motherload-ish overworld and the bosses aren't that bad either. I'd rate it a 7.5/10, with an exception of the secret dungeon gauntlet being a 9/10 and more of what the game should have had, difficulty.
Both games are also fairly pretty, have great music and they're some of the most toaster friendly games I've played.

For what it's worth, Steamworld Heist is a cool game, but don't bother playing on higher difficulties. The game has a certain element of RNG and hidden dice rolling going on, meaning it's not entirely possible to win on skill alone. On higher difficulties, enemies take more damage and deal more damage. Playing smart only works to an extent, as you are often on a time limit and urged to keep moving forward in each level at a steady pace, otherwise the game just throws more enemies at you.. So if you want to survive harder missions as you go on, you need to level up your guys, meaning instead of needing to master the system to win on the highest difficulties, you need to spend more time grinding, effectively wasting time to keep progressing in the game. And if you don't progress, the grinding becomes kind of moot, as newer and better gear is tied to how far you are in the game. If you need more item slots and better gear, the only way to get it is by going further into the game, where you will unlock new shops, which will require you to grind more to have enough money to afford better crap.
tl;dr - play on normal/medium and enjoy the game as a reasonable pace, instead of wasting time grinding the same missions over and over on harder difficulties for somewhat better rewards which don't really help at all.

I'd suggest playing the game on the difficulty above the one to normal, and then dropping down to normal for the three boss fights.
Later act 1 missions teach you to stop fighting and just haul ass, you gain nothing by fighting besides taking out an enemy that will respawn next turn.
Actually come to think of it the way Steamworld Heist plays is kind of the way Invisible Inc plays, and also the way I had hoped XCOM 2 would play, mounting the pressure on you more and more until you have no choice but to cut your losses and run.
I do recommend Invisible Inc but only if you can stomache 10 or so rooms being shuffled around in every map. Roguelite games really skimp on hand crafted content, it's a god damned shame.

Combat itself is pretty straightforward (just make sure you flank the enemy and charge), but the shit around it is what brings the complexity. The unit variety, while seemingly small at game start, is actually quite large (different units in different parts of the world, and then it depends on whether they're just mercs, are just allied, or are Macedonia-bred übermensch. While the same unit type fights just as well as any other, your native troops will fight nearly to death, while mercs will break and run the moment the battle stops going in their favour), logistics becomes a massive challenge after you get out of early game (you can overpower most enemies if you ram 10 phalanx units up their ass, but feeding those 10 phalanx is a massive challenge), reinforcements limit your reliance on native troops (Macedonia can only breed so many men so fast before you just run out of adult male population to send to the front and need to start utilising mercs and others), and more.

To be fair, I haven't played the others, but I intent to do so. I know it has fame as the killer of the franchise, but I think it is a very solid and unique game. Gameplay wise is very well design. The freedom of movement and the magic/trap system let you get very creative with the game, often time letting you beat bosses and enemies that clearly overpower you. The combo system is fun and let you experiment to devastating effect. Even better, late game bosses demands of the player to master the system in order to even hurt the bosses. The plot was simple and the characters, other than Borsch were flat, but the gameplay and story combined very well. Many people hate the D-Dive system and the D-counter, but is fantastic. It forces the player to make the most out of their resources, it keeps the tension high and the pace fast, and it really gives the feeling of being on the run against the clock. It feels a little small but very satisfying.

Putting aside that the game was designed with restart in mind with the Sol system and shit, I fucking love the dragon transformation. It was powerful as shit, a true "I win" mode, but the long term consequences make using it a more significant decision. I beat the game without dying ( I was inspired to do so by other anon that did it before). Little things are more exciting that beating a boss by using all of your skills and smarts without relaying on transforming. I had to use it exactly 3 times The fight against Borsch with the dragon arm, the fight against Elyon and, of course, the final fight against D-Borsch. Each time I used it was great, overpowering an unbeatable enemy was pretty cool and it feel like the decision have weight. All skills I find had their uses, and carrying multiple armors, shields and weapons to adapt to each situation was very fun. Also the D-Counter is really not a issue, if you do not overdo it it hardly goes up. Also I liked the fact that it reward you for taking more risks (fighting more enemies at once reward you with more exp, to steal you had to get hit, etc), so the player had to balance and take into consideration how much would they risk.

One last recommendation, this time a comic book for that one broken anon posting Squirrel Girl. I've read issue 1 of Dwarves and I think it's really good. Apparently every issue is a standalone story, but I enjoyed this one. I enjoyed the art, the character arch of the main dwarf and the dwarven tits setting. The entire story should have just been the Doctor and the Buddhist Monk trying to discover the mystery and protect the small town. They were the most interesting and least shallow characters of the entire anime, and the slow corruption of the Monk by the ultra-aged vamploli by growing closer to him, making him doubt himself and opening up about her past was fantastic. The Doctor's cold-blooded scientific analysis of everything - even to the torture of his own wife - was also unbelievably cool.
The entire comedy segments are asinine. The story of that one vamp bitch who ruined that innocent girl's life and trying to make us feel anything for the vampires was dumbfounding, even stupifying.
I'd say the fact that they both ended up leaving the ruined village was also crap but that's just my personal opinion. Seeing the Monk abandon everything to continue on with her, though, was priceless, like an even more interesting and well executed Let Me In.
Shame that every other character looked as stupid as they were written. And seriously the Japs need to learn how to balance humor and dark moments because this whiplash nonsense is ridiculous.

Actually the pozzing is mostly in the secondaries (Which characters you could just kill them with a suck, giving suck affects you aesthetically and may affect something else I don't actually know), and the gameplay lacks a bit of more variety but it's okay for what is it.
Thankfully the stamina bar prevents you from mashing buttons in the early game (I feel like the stamina upgrades might be too strong), ammo you can carry being limited, and you can use a few skills in succession to make "combos".
Like stun > that timed bomb shit > Lance > finisher to do a lot of damage, it has a parry mechanic for 2-handed weapons, and guns are actually pretty useful without being too abusable (ammo carrying is very limited early game but ammo isn't scarce). To do skills you need to suck blood by stunning them (parry stuns) or use a weapon that makes the enemy bleed (with the correct upgrade).
Also would be cool if 2-handed weapons had 2 buttons instead of 1 & the parry button. Parry should be pressing both at the same time. Technically with 1 handed weapons you have 2 buttons but that's because you probably want an off-hand weapon.
Still I'm around chapter 4, and of course I didn't bought it.
Also the medical treatment shit is badly done, people fucking get sick too soon (if the zone is not sane) and needs medicines almost every fucking night (I mean after they heal) so I'd just avoid them unless I gotta go to their zone because you can't quick travel to zones, so you gotta run like a bitch for half an hour to get where people would need medicines, also the game could have a minimap button tbh at least open/close, opening the menu to see the full map is annoying because it's always zoomed out at maximum where you can't see shit unless you play in a 52" TV or something.
If I had to give it a sincere rating it would be around 7~8. Because it just lacks variety and dealing with secondaries can be tiresome, also the medical treatment being flawed because there's no reason to not have some kind of quick travel (it should be pretty limited tho, like maybe 1 quicktravel point in the middle of the zone) since time only passes when you go to sleep. Graphically is looks really good and the FPS are perfect on my 3 year old medium(?) rig and around medium settings and I might be using settings lower than I could run because I don't want surprise FPS drops.
