And that's the economic side of it, the game design part is also seriously questionable. If there's a ratio of 30:1 watching the cutscenes instead of the gameplay, you either did a tremendous job with the cutscenes or a very lousy job with the gameplay. And if you had done a good job with the cutscenes, you'd be in Hollywood directing movies so I guess that kinda narrows it down?
Other games in the same genre like DMC do have some kickass cutscenes but most of the enjoyment is seeing pros doing some sick shit with the gameplay becuase it's just that good.

The problem with that claim is that the timeline has been fucked up multiple times throughout the series. You have Kirk going back in time to save the whales, Picard going back in time to stop the Borg (Which causes it's own problems, more on that in a minute), the several instances where the DS9 crew traveled forwards and backwards in time, the numerous times the Voyager crew had to reset shit to save the ship/crew, Enterprise getting caught up in the Temporal Cold War along with the Borg managing to slip on in because of Picard's antics, on top of the fact that the reboot trilogy actually takes place AFTER Voyager but ALSO resets everything to zero with dropping Nero in 20 years prior to TOS (Thereby making the only still relevant Star Trek series to the films being Enterprise).
However, with STD, it's still takes during Pike's reign of the Enterprise and has managed to fuck up every single bit of lore (Going by what I've heard). The has nothing to with timelines.
The problem has everything to do with the fact that they cannot write for shit.

Entperises main problem is that the writers were under pressure due to the studios demanding that they include certain aspects and subjects in the series (Such as the entire concept of the Temporal Cold War). Whatever you think about the quality of Enterprise's writing, I think it had the same fundamental problem Discovery did, which was being set in the past. There is no real reason to go back and try to do shows set before the other series unless you're going to go to great pains to preserve the timeline. It's basically asking for continuity issues, and in a franchise whose fanbase is notoriously autistic about it.
Discovery did fuck up pretty much every little thing. I mean, Sarek practically cries in Discovery.

depends a little on what you like (I recommend starting with TOS or NextGen):
The Original Series - rough & tumble passion with cheesy sci-fi
notable for tackling issues of the day head-on. Also notable for having the first interracial kiss in television history. Hit & miss, but always memorable.
The Animated Series - better than you'd think.
Most episodes feel like shorter TOS plots. The impact of each episode varies, but if nothing else, several end on a somber note that you wouldn't expect from a children's cartoon
Next Generation - speculative fiction with interesting side characters.
Ferengi are envisioned by Roddenberry to be the new big bad (overwhelming greed + capitalism) but hold values so starkly different from the norm that they come off as an incompatible society rather than an evil one.
Deep Space 9 - space opera with an overarching plot.
Worf is useful for more than being the guy the aliens beat up to show how they're stronger than Worf. Ferengi are much better realized and their society makes sense. Being Miles O'Brien is suffering.
The ending is a little weak but everything else is just golden
Voyager - no one calls Voyager their favorite.
Hard to pin down a tone and hell if they could track details like the fans could, but episodes focusing on Tom Paris and Harry Kim were fun. Its efforts to be progressive ultimately hampered our ability to care, but at least it did Borg interestingly
Enterprise - eh? I just couldn't bring myself to care. Examines development of federation technologies like the universal translator, but fails to present a sufficiently interesting plot
Discovery - abandon hope all ye who enter here.
so the Federation and Klingon war was jumpstarted by some dumbass feddy chick in the cafeteria. Also, SPACE TARDIGRADES fuel the warp drive apparently.
