fde395 No.14920084
How fucking boring. I thought it was B^U trying a new style at first.
What's the fucking point? Is it a "lesson" to always give your kids what they want, otherwise they'll start summoning demons? Is it supposed to be a scary monster story? Some romance thing?
It's too short and too boring to be any of that.
The lesson is shit, and you'd have to have real repercussions to drive that kind of point home. He lost his eye and the. girl got a scratch on her face. Big "oh no, we should have known better" ending.
The monster looks cool, though a little derivative. It also is never framed as a real threat. Nobody shows fear, it does some small surface-level damage to two of them. A swipe from it is apparently enough to break the skin on somebody's face and take out an eye, but nothing more. Even though they're out of the line, it only takes some inept swipes at them? No attempts to really kill or eat them? What kind of fucking monster is this? It's shown as being less menacing than a kid with a knife would have been. It could have been a story about fucking with drugs to get cash to buy Super Nintendos and nothing would have been different. It would have just been less ridiculous than having a giant monster with giant claw hands that apparently can't do more than scratch a kid's face with a swipe.
The romance thing is fucking stupid. It tries to sell the feelings they have with some sideways glances, but big fucking deal. Am I supposed to feel some connection for these characters I've literally just met and don't give a shit about? It's like a romance story that goes "Dave and Jen liked each other. They looked at each other shyly sometimes. Then Dave was brave for Jen. Then they got married, the end." I'm in fucking tears from the overwhelming emotions here.
Why even give the characters names if you never say them again after the first two fucking pages?
What a shit story. It's got potential, but it's something that needs to be told over a hundred or more pages, not a dozen. It needs more fleshing out of characters for us to connect to them. It needs us to give a shit about the characters and have more buildup for me to care about the emotion. The demon needs more forboding and build-up, and more threat when it actually shows up. Somebody should be fucking maimed or killed to demonstrate that yes, it is actually a threat. We need something to actually give a shit about these characters for anything to matter at all.
It doesn't matter if the goal is a Super Nintendo, it could have been anything, it wouldn't matter. The story is obviously going for some shit Stranger Things knockoff and vibe, but there's no reason to give a shit about anybody in it at all, or anything that they're doing here.

I would personally go in a completely different direction of making the kids end up in a lovecraftian realm of flesh and bones, suffering constantly until their bodies and souls are torn apart to shreds for fucking with dark forces to get something as stupid as a Super Nintendo.
The demon is non-threatening as fuck, I mean holy shit, the kid literally threatens to burn his picture in a book if he doesn't give him a stupid console and it fucking works? That's just fucking silly. Besides how are those kids not shitting their pants and crying like little bitches while that monster is tearing them to shreds? What a stupid fucking comic.

Whatever direction it goes in, it needs to go in some direction that is fleshed out. It's boring because there are no stakes, there's no connection to the characters, there's no threat, and everything looks so flat. It tried to hit like 5 angles in 12 pages, including introduction of the characters (the main character didn't even have a fucking name). I don't think anything it's doing can really be done in 12 pages. Maybe if it was one character and the monster, or two characters and the romance story, or something about the connection of the friends, or some lesson about not withholding too much from your kids, but not fucking all of it; even one of those would be really pushing it in so few pages. Even a real short story wouldn't try doing all of it in 12 pages, let alone a comic book.
At the very best, this lacks focus.

It's basically the Christian apocalypse wet-dream with a sci-fi theme, a mixture of Revelations and the fable of Noah's Ark. It's not a new idea, by any stretch. Christfag here, and you're correct. We're lucky to have a very scholarly pastor at our church, who does a lot of research on his own for our bible studies, even going back to the original Hebrew and Greek and explaining how words can be translated different ways. A common refrain of his is that anyone can just pick and choose certain verses or passages of scripture and use them to justify all manner of un-Christian practices. Or someone can take two passages that seem to contradict each other and feel justified in writing off the whole thing entirely. The Bible should be read and understood as a whole, not piecemeal.
Your second pic is also relevant, because we've just gotten up to Revelation (not Revelations) in our New Testament studies. It's 100% correct in that the "Rapture" makes zero appearance in the text of Revelation. That the Rapture is so ingrained in our pop culture goes to show how few people even bother to look into these things.

Fun fact, there is literally nothing in the Bible that expressly condemns suicide. You might make the argument that the Fifth Commandment, "You shall not murder," could apply, since you would be murdering yourself, but it's not explicitly laid out that suicide is a sin, no less an unforgivable one. It also wouldn't make sense for God to condemn someone just because they killed themselves in a time of mental anguish.
Obviously, Christian teachings on suicide are that it is wrong, but many don't condemn the suicidal as they did in the past. One of the reasons they did in the first place was because there were groups that were killing themselves because they thought they would achieve martyrdom that way. That's less of a problem nowadays.
You're might also be thinking of Dante's Inferno, in which suicides were cast into one of the lower circles of Hell because of their violence against themselves.

Because there's always a tomorrow. But, since there's also the possibility that the Gods of other religions were just angels, it does bring up the question of how some cultures came to treat suicides as an honorable act (Like with Japan and seppuku).

Anon, that's way too big o a stretch of time. For those first few billion, no planets had formed at all yet. Then give those aliens a few billion to evolve. Then give us a few billion to evolve. Then also make this all moot because humans as a species have only existed for a few million years, and have only had civilization for a few thousand, and have only been able to send out radio waves for a few decades, and have only been able to go into space in the past fifty or so years. On top of that, factor in the speed of light, so if they are observing the galaxy with any form of EM radiation, we won't look like anything special to them depending on how far away they are observing from. There is no reason at all any hypothetical aliens would know we exist, let alone want to come visit.

the KJV is not the most reliable, and in the translator's introduction to the KJV they explicitly stated this. the fact that translations like NIV, NKJV, NESV, and the whole slew of modernist interpretational trash are somewhat worse in certain areas doesn't make the KJV good.
if you actually give a shit about the subject then just compare the greek word 'genea' and how it's translated in every single mainstream translation.
if you lookup the word 'genea', which comes from 'genos', in an ancient greek lexicon (such as L&S), it clearly means 'race', 'folk', 'genetically-kindred people'. yet when christ calls the pharisees a genea of vipers in the original manuscripts, modern translators render this as 'generation of vipers' instead of the correct 'race of vipers'. and the KJV is no different, it mistranslates this word just like most other modern translations.

The KJV was one of the first to fully propagate the word Jew, which doesn't actually appear in the original Greek text. It's a lazy mistranslation of the word Judean. This means that when Christ denounced the Pharisees saying to beware those who claim to be Jews, he meant to beware those claiming to be Judean. He was telling everyone that the Pharisees were imposters, posing as fellow countrymen while really being Satanic foreigners. Jesus was also never King of the Jews, he was labeled King of the Judeans, since he was, after all, starting a political insurrection against the government at the time, ie. the Sanhedrin. Then there's the word Gentile, which also doesn't exist. It's a mistranslation of the word Hellenic, which is weird because the same word appears correctly translated elsewhere in the text. Instead of referring to every single non-Semite on the planet by saying Gentile, the word Hellenic specifically singled out the Greeks as being where the disciples would find the lost children of Israel.

>Don't read KJV unless you want kiked nonsense. You want something as close as possible to the original Greek version.
Besides using the Masoretic text instead of the Septuagint for the OT, the KJV holds the closest amongst English translations to the Majority Text (MT) of the NT. Luther's Gutenberg Bible and KJV both used Erasmus' Textus Receptus (received text, Greek despite the Latin name) as a translation basis. Modern English Bibles almost universally use Latin texts (Alexandrian, non-Byzantine).
You sound like a dirty Papist, the Orthos have no problem with KJV.

Gentile is derived from the Latin root word "gentilis" meaning "a distinct [sic] other clan, tribe, nation". It's also where we derive gene, geneology, generation from. It makes sense in English because the inhabitants of the Levant at the time refered to everyone who wasn't them as "Greeks/Hellenes" because it was the lingua franca (economic language) of the time period, hence why the original texts are in Koine Greek.

If this site is to be believed: https://archive.fo/xxGAn
>King James Version
<All languages change over time. Hence, some translations, while good when they were originally introduced become difficult to use accurately simply because the common language has changed. The King James Version was a very good translation when it was first introducted in A.D. 1611. It has gone through several updates, the last of which dates back into the 1700's. Hence, the King James Version reflects the English used 300 years ago. While it remains a fairly good translation, still errors have been made using this translation simply because people do not realize that the definitions of words have changed.
>New King James Version
<This is good, solid translation that basically follows the King James but with modern English terms. If there is a fault, it is in its wide selection of word choices for translating words in the original language. A word in Greek might be translated five to ten different ways because readers of English find this to be more natural.
>New American Standard
<This is a good translation, though at times its phrasing is difficult to read due to its tendency to translate a word the same way every time it is used. It gives a better feel for what the original language presented, but many find its readability to be stilted. A severe problem is that retains the usage of Old English pronouns, such as "Thee" and "Thine," when God is talking or being addressed. The shifts between modern and older pronouns is disconcerting to most people and is not called for in a translation.
<The updated New American Standard Bible, also known as the New American Standard Bible 1995 edition, removed the old English pronouns. It also reads a bit smoother than the original NASB.
>American Standard Version
<The predecessor to the New American Standard, the American Standard Version is known for its precise translation. It was completed in 1901 so its English is slightly out-of-date. It shares the New American Standard's problem of switching between modern and older pronouns.
>English Standard Version
<This translation just recently came out in 2001. It appears to be a solid, literal translation of the orginal text. Many problems in past translations have been corrected; though it introduces a few problems of its own. For example, "man" and "woman" at the beginning of I Corinthians 11 is rendered as "husband" and "wife" though there is no support for this in the context of the passage. A good reviews of this translation can be found at: "The English Standard Version" and "English Standard Version."

Jesus cursing the fig tree was a metaphor, I'm doing my best to remember exactly what it was in reference to. I believe it was something about how the Jews weren't bearing the fruit of the Spirit because they were so wrapped up in sticking to the Law. So the fig tree stood for their ungodliness.
It does sound kinda funny out of context, the idea that Jesus would just go around cursing plants in between preaching and healing and whatnot. Another one is when he drove out the demons collectively known as Legion and forced them into a herd of swine, which then proceeded to jump off a cliff to their death. Good times.

The Orthodox Study Bible is really is fantastic. The only problem is that it uses the NKJV for the New Testament, but the notes usually make up for the translation errors.

>Alien comes down to judge humanity
<Alien has the same view of life as a pretentious human
I've tried to go over writing an entity that percieves things in a completely different way from humans due to being on a higher plane of being something we can't percieve because it's not something we can experience . It's one of the most if not THE most challenging things to write about in fiction. Even Lovecraft had a hard time doing it, because it's the equivalent of your brain trying to bash itself against a wall trying to make something new that we haven't experienced in our world before.
So when what is essentially a man that's "rly smart so u shld listen to him lmaoXDD" with an alien skin slapped over it, something in my brain snaps. It's using an appeal to authority on figure that the author didn't even try or care to write.

Interesting story. There are two words in the old Hebrew that are often translated as "hell" in modern vernacular. The first, Sheol, is referred to as the final resting place of the dead regardless of conduct in life. The second, Gehenna, refers to a literal valley where some of the kings of Judah sacrificed their children by fire, and was later deemed to be cursed. Gehenna was then used as a word to refer to the destination of the wicked when they died.
This is why you sometimes have the line in the Apostles' Creed saying that Jesus "descended into Hell," referring to the concept of Sheol. A better translation is "descended to the dead." In our studies of one of the New Testament letters, we went over some of the theories of what happened between the crucifixion and resurrection, one of those being that Jesus went to the dead and preached the gospel to those that had died before he came, to offer all of humanity the opportunity to be saved through him. It would make less sense for it to be literal Hell in this case.
The fire and brimstone stuff is generally interpreted from Revelation, but the key to understanding that book is to realize that it is not to be taken literally. It's full of symbolism that would mean a lot more to the early Christian church and its persecution by Rome, but can still be applied to the modern day. The best answer I can give with regards to heaven and hell and the afterlife and whatever is "we just don't know."

Well, in an attempt not to proselytize, I'll give the short version based on what I as a Lutheran believe. Our belief is simple: all one has to do to be saved is believe. Good works are nice to do and what we should do as a Christian, but nothing we can do allows us to earn a place in heaven. Only through God's grace are we saved.
Now, of course, this does raise the question of those who are generally good people but don't believe, what would happen to them in that scenario and such. I have a friend who is by far the nicest person I know, but he's basically atheist. Hell, there was a story a month or so ago where a kid asked the pope the same question. Unfortunately, again, the best I can do is "we just don't know." That sort of thing would be up to God and no one else. All we know is there is a guaranteed path through faith.
Again, really not trying to proselytize here because it's easy to feel like you are when you're just trying to discuss your faith.
