What have you been playing at the arcade? I've been playing spectacle games like Dark Escape 4D.

What do you think of the new Ninja Turtles cab?

best arcade coming through

050950 No.14911892

Hello fellow gamers. I've also been to the arcade and spent a whopping 20 dollars on some different games. Didn't get very far, but of course I must spend more to git gud. You guys should spend more too, if you want to be true hardcore gamers.

But that's not Time Crisis nor Time Crisis 2.

>>14911892

>b-but you can 1cc them so they obviously aren't artificially difficult shekel-devouring memegames!

<okay, how many credits did you spend before you could 1cc it?

>hundreds of dollars :^)

Will arcades ever make a resurgence in popularity?

f54708 No.14912381

>>14912261

Not unless they get some mindblowing vidya experience that is impossible or prohibitively expensive to get at home.

1764d7 No.14912403

>>14912381

I'm still wondering why that is not a thing anymore, that was the entire reason they were so popular back in the day.

2cc248 No.14912421

Dark Escape is legit. Reminded me of the House of the Dead days.

f54708 No.14912456

>>14912403

Consoles reached visual parity with arcades back in gen 6, so there's really nowhere else to go from there except doubling down on gimmicky peripherals, and that's not going to get gen z to leave the house.

Then improve the graphics, always stay one step ahead.

Who is going to sink hundreds of millions into developing these AAA arcade exclusives, and how would they expect to get an ROI when they could just go multiplat and make billions like activision and zenimax on their big IPs? What hardware is going to power them? Obviously it needs to be faster than consumer GPUs, so where is this tech coming from?

I played a game at an arcade that was closing down, and its one of the greatest things I have ever played. You have two steel bars with handles that swivel and clack into each other, and you play mario party style minigames where you control it with the bar, and if you want something on your opponents side of the screen you have to literally slam into their bar and tug of war with them.

Can't for the life of me remember what it was called, and even if I did its in moonrunes.

Am I missing something when I played that game or is it intentionally built to rip you off? I remember certain enemies keep suddenly showing up right in front of you and attacking before there's any possible time to shoot them, and I really remember there being no time as opposed to many other rail shooters where the enemies suddenly show up in front of you. The panic sensor seemed overly sensitive, too.

Pics unrelated but obligatory for any and all arcade threads.

Nothing like playing without paying.

>>14912634

All arcades were intentionally built to rip you off. That is why emulators are so great.

I never played the original, but I play a couple rounds of Bone Eater everytime I go. The translucent LCDs are so cool.

>>14912634

Seems that way. I've only played twice. I certainly wouldn't play it without an unlimited play card.

You know I just don't understand why companies didn't just make a quarter last hours. Imagine how successful the arcade industry could have been if each machine had a significantly lower amount of turnover. If fifty people could pay and play a machine over a 10 hour period, just imagine how much you'd get if five people payed and played that same machine over that same 10 hour period.

And the advertising was always so misleading. I can't tell you how many arcade fliers I've seen boasting about how easy the game(s) were or that you could play for 40 minutes or more only to get to the arcade and get a game over in 3 minutes FLAT.

Don't even get me started on the technology. It's like all the industry was capable of doing was holding back the rest of the world with outdated hardware normalizing past tech as if it was new. Zero innovation.

>You know I just don't understand why companies didn't just make a quarter last hours.

Because the business practice is having the consumer put in a shitton of quarters in the machine in a short period of time.

Honestly it wouldn't be too hard to set up a machine that gave free play hours at a time if a shop owner so desired. Generally speaking it makes mores sense to keep them set up so people are forced to take turns, not just for profit but for the sake of people sharing unless the joint is dead anyway (in which case the owner should just have free play enabled in hopes patrons buy their other goods.)
