Reaction time is a thing and pretending that it isn't doesn't make you smart. It's also much longer than you think it is. In addition, you're ignoring the fact that you not only have to react to that something is there, but also identify what kind of threat it is and how to act. Let's also not forget that there are situations where a threat can be jumped over, but doing so makes you jump into another enemy, pit or to a worse path etc., meaning that you need to process the level coming up behind the enemy before you act.
But of course none of that matters because you can just show off how easy their example is to deal with when you already know what's there.
Someone post that webm about reaction times, I don't have it.

A reaction time of 200ms would but you in the 95% percentile in humanbenchmark.com. And that's just being asked to tap in a red square the moment it goes green. What's worse is that it's so fucking easy for them to sway normalfags to their side. Sometimes I believe that normalfags are for some fucking reason afraid of people who are less social than them, because they always fall for media schemes created to garner attention and demonize people like that.
Think about it, remember the whole "Video games cause violence" thing? You could say that it was caused by Columbine and a reaction to that, but moral panics and the fear I'm talking about seem to be far older than that. The irony is that I have never heard about an avid video game player being a bully, but I did hear of them being bullied a lot, how it never occured to normalfags that it completely contradicts what the media was saying? Usually violent people take out their violence on other, and do not hide around in basements in fear of people. Same thing is happening now with the "gaming is making people sexist debacle", but even before that writing, movies, media were full of different examples of antagonists who were secluded from society and were constantly scheming evil plots to hurt the rest of the world.
Why the fuck are normalfags so afraid of people who mostly want to be left the fuck alone and allowed to play video games in peace?

I used to be autistic quake III and UT99-2004 player. I know you can train your reaction. If you're very new to certain games requiring it, you will suck at it. After years of training you are completely different person and what gave you frustration before seems easy.
Reaction also can downgrade too if you don't keep it up, just like gains it can go away. Reaction is literally video game gains, you constantly need to be in shape.
But good thing about reaction is that it works with muscle memory quite well, so even if you become lazy and slow after a while of playing, some parts of you still remember how to precisely use a railgun and lightning gun, and even you won't keep up with it until you restore your reaction time to utilize it again.
Video game journalists also have no experience with that, so of course they will have piss poor reaction. The only people aside of gamers who train their reaction are combat aircraft pilots, they even have their own simulators for that.

The thing is SMW's transition from one action to another is more slower than Sonic's. With Mario it takes an additional few frames for Mario to jump to a proper height to attack the enemy, so you had to plan ahead. But because of Sonic's speed, he needed to react instantly. In one frame, Sonic can instantly curl up exactly at the moment when you press a button. Not to mention that you don't just jump but can roll or whatever as long as you're in a ball. The problem with Previously Recorded was that they clearly didn't even try to roll into a ball. If they reacted just when the enemy is in the screen at full view, Sonic would've hit the enemy already. It's understandable if it's the first time playing, but I'm guessing they would have been playing the game more than once. And the whole "get hit and you have to start over your speed slowly" is bogus. You could at least go back to a sprint when you jump forward from a standstill.

Not when he's in a normal sprint or platforming. I think you're talking about how they did it with Yoshi's Island. And to be honest, I really hated how they did the camera, because when Yoshi starts running, the camera pulls back to show what's up ahead. That's good until you want to jump back to get a coin, and then the camera immediately pivots from right to left. And when you get to the platforming sections sometimes the camera keeps pivoting left and right and it becomes nauseating and would be a whole lot worse with Sonic's speed.

>If you can, use a TN panel
>If you can, use a PS/2 mouse, otherwise an USB mouse. Never a wireless mouse.
>Perform the test
>This is your untrained score
>Execute test two or three times more
>This is your "trained" score
My first test (after I got bamboozled at the phone one) was 208ms even though my mother distracted me during one of the tests and I clicked 30ms later than average according to the all tests overview. Keep in mind that while the percentile is correct, the saved score is always three or four points higher than your real average, for whatever dumb reason. Maybe it averages all of your scores, I dunno. Your actual score is the score that appears at the end of the test or the top of your screen, so that would make my 208ms actually 205, more or less. My third try gave me an average of 195ms, so conditioning definitely plays a role.
According to the website, the human median (keep in mind it's all faggots like us and bots trying to dickwave their absurdly high reaction times, compared to the human average) is 215ms. According to a friend of mine, the text was outdated and actual data points to 240.

Casual gaming used to be an entirely different beast than it was now. What made it change was the advancements in technology, specifically the rise of the iPhone, F2P gambling apps, and CoD and the trend of multiplayer being designed around making the average fool feel skilled. Those technological advancements are what created casual gaming. There was no such thing back in the day. The closest you got was stuff like The Sims and that wasn't anywhere near as bad as contemporary casual gaming. Not to mention that before the phone games and facebook games, gaming wasn't cool. Only nerds were gamers past the age of like 10. And nerds used to be uncool as fuck. Not that they're really cool now, but the idea of pretending to be a nerd for some reason is.

Here's how this works for those of you who think you can actually improve your reactions (you can't). There's a difference between your "conscious" reaction speed and your automatic reaction speed. The trick with practice is to make reactions as close to automatic as possible. You CAN NOT increase your automatic reactions through practice. You might have a little more luck with diet and exercise and maybe drugs, but playing computer games 20 hours a day will not help.
The best way to see the difference between your conscious reaction and your automatic reaction is to use a startle test. Anything that can make you jump or react before you have time to think about that reaction must be based on your automatic reflex. The difference between this time and your normal reaction speed is the absolute maximum you can expect to improve.

not really since when you are actively playing games you aren't waiting for a green light to appear to shoot someone. just because you can press the button when it turns green doesn't mean you can do a 180 degree swerve on someone and then imagine exactly where they are standing in an FPS game and kill them before they kill you. Reaction time can't simulate that because it involves more than just "reacting" also sometimes your "reaction time" backfires on you and you react to things that don't even matter(this happens alot if you play FPS games sometimes innocuous things will set off your quick reactions in a direction that's totally irrelevant and it gets you killed)

also maybe if you have a mouse that's easier to click obviously you will probably shave off a good 30 ms on your score because just the action of pushing a harder mouse button down will artificially reduce your time.
Most of my scores though average out around the low 200s with the rare high 100 average occasionally. Now I've taken it like 20 times and I can't replicate that high 100 average I guess I was just doing better when I got that average but still I feel like if I had a better monitor and a better mouse I could shave off some more miliseconds here.

they essentially do exactly what we are doing with this test by pressing the button when the light turns green except drag racing is not randomized and the green light goes off at the same time every single fucking time
Different from boxing in which a boxer can change his rhythm to force you to react to a different "beat" at different intervals of offensive rhythm so these people actually have better reaction times because not only are they "reacting" to something but they are doing active decision making whilst reacting at the same time as opposed to pressing a button.

I wouldn't put much faith in webapps as a benchmark for reaction time. A lot of latency is added by driver performance and the operating system. You can get different results by using a different browser, mouse, monitor, and operating system.
