GoG games are always free :^) on a more serious note, since there's Xenonauts 2 already, I don't think devs care about statistics of the first one, so this is just an ad.

I remember I was talking about XCOM in a thread, and someone said a similiar game had XCOM EU like UFO chase mechanic but it was way more detailed. Was it this game?

Speaking of GOG…Dragon Dogma DA is around 10 bucks now, but I heard that its somewhat not updated to the latest. How much important are said updates? Its worthy to buy the game on GOG instead of Steam, even with this problem? Besides, the only online this game have is the Pawn system that i know, and I finished the game recently without even spending rift points (Why would I spend to get overleveled pawns when i could just get pawns of the same level anyways?) in the pirated version.

In Xenonauts it's a real time with pause sort of deal. It's certainly much more involved than that garbage Firaxis shat out but it eventually gets old when you get the hang of it and various enemy aircraft.

Neat, a free game. I was pretty excited for a more modern interface, but since OpenXCom got finished I had lost interest in Xenonauts. I'll get to check it now myself after all. I just wish the art didn't look so bland, it looks like instead of hiring a real artist they went for the guy on the dev team who was the least shit at drawing.

Xenonauts has a lot of stuff that ufo defense didn't have, but it also seems to lack the versatility that ufo defense had. For example when I played it the interceptors have barely half the range capability of the ufo defense ones. So enjoy doing really well defending the earth only for a ufo to do a fly by of south africa beyond your range, and make all your progress moot.

The game is gorgeous up until you actually start fighting aliens. The models and the tactical map are hideous in an unforgivable way. And that's without even addressing the flat soldier designs.
It really is a shame, hopefully they don't bring back whoever was responsible for designing the game like this for the sequel.

I actually like the artstyle. It physically looks sterile, clean I guess, without extra flashy bits. I specifically like the soldier designs as well, although I could do with less women and niggers. The alien models, in comparison, could use a little work, but they're not bad either. What's the gripe? I truly don't get it.

Fun is just a copout way of saying 'i like it'. That's okay if you're just listing games you liked, but not as reason to recommend a game or to defend the quailty of a game. For all we know you could only like walking simulators and regen health shooters.

xenonauts is fun though. it gives you that same x-com feel of starting small and ending up big, and also adds enough to the combat (riot shields especially) to keep things fresh. it's honestly the best "spiritual successor" i've ever seen an indie push out because it keeps enough of the old formula to feel familiar and adds enough new stuff to make it a new experience. great game
3825d0 No.14928937
main problem with xenonauts is that ground combat is obtuse. terrain is all either blocks or walls, can't shoot around circular objects because most static map entities take up uniform rectangles, aliens are either complete laughingstocks or are going to gun down your entire squad through the smokescreen you set down, friendly NPC get in the way more often than actually assist and the art style makes your characters look like plastic molded toy soldiers
other than that I really think Xenonauts has a lot of really great, unique ideas. The concept of friendly armed NPC's, the dogfighting mechanics, the high level of weapon and equipment specialization, and being able to hire based on stats are all improvements to the formula.

There you go, you gave reasons why you like it. Most people just want other people to take them at face value and not take the effort of elaborating their views. I already have the game, i was and am drunk, and I get autistic when drunk. I totally believe that the "fun is a buzzword post" was correct. He just worded it very terribly

But that's the thing though. Saying a game is fun is like saying a meal is delicious or tasty. It implies it's good.
6e8e54 No.14929453

Well, sort of. It has an interception battle screen where you can order your interceptors around. It is boring, tedious, and you will do it frequently. Auto-resolve is not a viable workaround because auto-resolve scraps your fighters faster than losing.
It was a cool mechanic for a few interceptions before it makes you want UFO Defense interceptions back just so you don't have to deal with it.

Tasty doesn't mean healthy it just means eating the food is enjoyable. I guess the closest game equivalent for healthy would be 'pro consumer'. So the latest Hitman game i've heard is just as good as blood money, but it's been mired with the always online shit, season passes and other bullshit like that. So the game be tasty but unhealthy for you.

Largely subjective.
Games are an entertainment medium - their PRIMARY purpose is to be entertaining. If they entertain someone, then they are fulfilling that purpose, and are therefore good for that individual.
055a44 No.14932008
>>14930568
Exactly, when a person is say a game is fun what they're really saying is "i liked it", that's why you don't take a person at face value when he say's a game is fun. So to really know if you'll like the game you need to find out why he liked it or at least what other games he likes as well. It's easy to find out if a reviewer has shit taste by look at previous games he reviewed, possible but a bit of a pain on a user from more conventional forum by austically looking through their post history, pretty much impossible on a image board unless they elaborate.
The fun is a buzzword guy just wanted people to elaborate.
