The proper way to do it? Whatever language you're using almost definitely has some sort of standard library to compare sets and arrays. There's probably an intersect() method. These drawings are all sharp line art.
4:4:4 chroma subsampling uses 17% more space than 4:2:0 (effectively less due to compression efficiency increasing a bit) but the images will have more detail due to more precise color.

The few I don't include is usually because I simply missed them. It has to be pretty terrible for me not to include it on the grounds of meeting standards. The only standard I enforce is trying to make things align which requires editing/resizing/cropping some of the images so they'll align with whatever comes before and after them. It's very tedious and not always possible to align things, but I think it's worth it to keep transitions looking good without having the next image in a sequence jump across the screen in some random direction compared to the previous image.
