There's been a pretty obvious downgrade as well, compare the model viewer for the male martyrs to the female ones where they accidentally put in the actual in-game model instead of the bullshot one. The in-game succubi models don't look much better, so it probably has something to do with frantically removing every vagina from every female model a month before release. So what's the "uncensor" patch really going to do, even if GOG pulls it off? The apparent problem seems to be that they just weren't dedicated to any part of the game, at all. No "poise is working as intended" defensive posts from Madmind explaining their design decisions, any rough edge in the game they're perfectly willing to smooth over without hesitation so that the game can appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Seriously, every decent idea they had about putting a little challenge in the game can be disabled in the options, and post-patch they're all disabled by default. Most demons kill you instantly? We'll make it so you can use an astral projection to possess another body after death, so that you don't have to immediately start over, and we'll balance that by making it so you can't repossess the same demon over and over again without consequences. Unless somebody thinks that's difficult, in which case we'll let you turn it off in the options. Somebody wants to just throw themselves at the game over and over like an idiot and solve the puzzles through trial and error? We'll make it so you get kicked back to the previous checkpoint if you die three times, that's a good punishment. Unless somebody thinks that's difficult, in which case we'll let you turn it off in the options. Nobody playing the game can find their way forward? As the gaming industry has grown it has become less interesting, less imaginative and safer.
