the gameplay in agony is really dull and the only thing of substance the game has to offer are the visuals, and i guess the world building and atmosphere by extension. that's how it was marketed practically up until the end. what were they showing off? graphics and the art style definitely, but they sure as fuck weren't banking on the engaging gameplay, because there is none. if they did attempt to market it mainly on the gameplay they would have been laughed out of the industry.
meanwhile, what have we seen from scorn? practically nothing about the gameplay or puzzles (if there even are any. i haven't seen any puzzles) aside from there being some neat looking guns that are actually completely generic in their functionality, and everything about the visual aesthetic. sure, the game looks very impressive visually, but what we've just learned from agony is that you cannot carry an entire game on the graphics alone (not like we didn't already know that). this has me worried that scorn is going to end up as nothing more than an overly long tool music video that you have to pay for. we just barely got heavy metal album cover: the game, today, and it's dull as shit. they have been marketed in very much the same way.
i'm calling it now. it will be massively refunded and overwhelmingly consumed through LPs instead of people actually playing it.
