They should stop making these special editions for what will be a dead console in two years. If anything we're going to see 3DS remakes for Nintendo Switch in about 4-5 years when 3DS is officially discontinued. I can see DS ports for Switch at least in vertical tabletop mode. A single joycon can work for DS buttons and touch screen is a thing. Better than WiiU DS emulation. Touch heavy controls will make Switch impossible to play in TV mode though. No one wants to use the pointer for touch screen controls.
Also do you think D-pad joycons will be a thing later down the line?

They were manufacturing the NES for like 10 years and PS2 for 12. Hell, the original non color Gameboy was being manufactured for 14 years. That's nothing unusual for successful systems. If they're going to continue manufacturing them anyways, might as well add a cheap faceplate and make it a collectors item, thus ensuring it will move more units than a normal version.

Nintendo seems to understand that some people may not want the Switch, I'm in that camp, I see almost nothing that would get me to buy a Switch since most of what I play is already on PC. The 3DS line has a lot of games I can't get plus it's more portable. Also, that Hylian shield 2DS XL looks nice, plus I get a game on it for 10 bucks more? Pretty sweet if you ask me. I might finally pick up a 3DS console now.
