c8ba7a No.14870811

This is a game i'm honestly more excited for than i thought i would be. I kind of love the original but its more for the story, tone and ideas than the execution. Not enough bosses and before the massive balancing of the Creo World expansion some enemies in the midgame were super cheap. But the idea of some apple circa steve jobs industrial giant trying to be the clean and happy eco saviour that goes very, very wrong was a super neat idea.

Now all we know from the sequel is the -spoilers- nano mutants made from the faulty human reconfigures from the leak of project resolves payload during a power surge has spread and instead of a creo facility in the desert the sequel is in a massive sci-fi city instead as ordinary people are getting infested and mutating into some system shock 2 shit. I imagine if you never played through the first till you got to the body horror second half where shit starts to go full BLAME! it wouldn't be that interesting. Knowing that however i'm super interested in where they take it.

That and maybe they could look at Nioh as well as Bloodborne this time around.

What do you want to see in it? Im thinking:

>More bosses

>Either character creation or a selection of characters to play as

>More weapons and balance them better so an early weapon can't be the monster BiS for the entire game based on build style

>More rig customisation maybe combo move editing

>Way fucking more bosses, like god damn

ea0c5a No.14870825

The first seemed like a boring western dark souls ripoff, considering the studio made another boring western dark souls ripoff: lords of the fallen, I have to wonder what people see in the surge. Then again, people also pretended lords of the fallen wasn't an absolute piece of shit so I'm not convinced you aren't the same people.

775930 No.14870827

>>14870811

All of the above, maybe they shouldn't try for more pretentious storytelling, more bosses and customization, because cripple faggot was boring.

c8ba7a No.14870863

>>14870825

Its great when it turns into body horror warframe in act 3. Lords of the fallen never got good. It feels like a warhammer fan game that plays like shit.

f08512 No.14870866

The first game was 4/10 at best. No idea why they would want to make a second one. Who would want to buy this, anyway?

The only thing that you really need to do right in your game is proper gameplay, and the devs of The Surge sucked at this hard. They wanted it to be like Dork Sauce, but we got TERA with little extra features instead.

>No idea why they would want to make a second one. Who would want to buy this, anyway?

Russians really loved the first game.

739f44 No.14870889

>>14870866

This. The first game was a complete hog to play through and there was absolutely zero sense of progression in terms of both story and gameplay. It was a complete mediocre-to bad game and I don't know why people would be excited for the sequel.

oh no it's another one of those.

c8ba7a No.14870900

>>14870866

Whats wrong with a 4/10 if you get fun out of it. Unless you are a good goy and fall for 'get hype 8/10' culture sometimes an average or less game has subjective factors the individual can enjoy. I'd rather than make a sequel and iterate on it than give up on the idea.

3d26e3 No.14870919

Cool, a game nobody asked for.

53bcb5 No.14870923

Really didn't like the Surge. Don't get the hype. They had a cool premise but held it back to just be sci-fi Souls instead of doing more.

>Whats wrong with a 4/10 if you get fun out of it

The point of 4/10 rating I gave to the game is that it wasn't very fun for me. The combat was repetitive in a really bad way, the armor meant nothing as you always get killed after 3-4 hits. Healing upgrades make everything way too easier, throwing the little charm that the gameplay had into a dumpster. Also grinding bodyparts for rare loot gets annoying fast.

Hitting enemies wasn't satisfying for some reason. Maybe the sound effects were off?

Anything but light armor and heavy, staggering weapons was useless 97% of the game.

I must say that the visuals and mechanical designs were pretty good, though. It was a bit fun swapping armor parts to find the best-looking combination.

That said, I doubt the second game will be better, if not the same. They'll probably pozz and casualize it, too.

c8ba7a No.14871768

>>14871759

Funny you say pozz. I'm replaying the first right now and just walked past a video feed 20 minutes ago talking about "the evil and hypocritical left wing media that doesnt care about the truth but only to cover up horrible things".

You would think it was made by swedes angry at their situation.

>>14870811

The first game had its problems but for one I liked the setting and some of the environments and for a souls-like developed in the west, I gotta give it that it has good level design and it's fairly challenging.

I want to be able to stat build instead of just powering up the core, a way to use energy with the weapons instead of just on implants (similar to weapon arts in DS3), enemy variety, more bosses because the game didn't really stretch the concept with them, bosses with more omph story-wise mainly because just killing someone's vacuum cleaner isn't as fun (they could try something along the lines of Nier Autoamta with AI and shit). But above all, some form of PvP.

Also anyone who uses anything other than Goliath Gear is a Creo techno faggot

I passed over the original because it looked pretty shitty. Is it even worth a pirate?

its a western souls knock off

Like all western knock offs it lacks the soul, content and polish of its japanese counterpart. The only good thing about it is the level design. Only worth it if you are starving for a third person action RPG.

c8ba7a No.14872180

>>14872142

yes. you might hate it you might enjoy it just go in expecting a mediocre game. but the themes will be what brings you in.

But bare in mind the themes are the start arent the whole so if you are iffy but interested stick with it till shit gets real midway.

Project ReSOLVE is poisoning the planet and causing and cancer and alzheimers in literally every human alive. As a last ditch effort Project Utopia exists. Clouds of nanites to bioform the earth and brute force the singularity. By the end you fight things that are more magic than science like lovecraftian borg, midway though you fight 'test subjects' from an earlier build that are converted people. Literally cut up and kept alive with mechanical parts welded on them. But the results were either psycotic or had the mental capacity of a toddler. Apparently the Thing and the last Prey game are inspirations for 2 so maybe they will flesh out on that. Pun not intended

Finally played the Creo World expansion and its pretty fun. Its a little more dead rising as you leave the factory and labs for a theme park full of killer robots. Some of the design differences to the main game make me wonder if its indicative of TS2's enemies. For example a ogre class rig thats a huge fucker that drops an experimental power cell that becomes basically an exploding barell in the environment.

Let's talk about what made The Surge great. Number 1, leveling. Unlike in a certain other series where levels were just a notifier of how many times you increased stats and were totally irrelevant given how much fucking twinking you could do, here your level determines your max equip load and also affects the effectiveness of max stat increases. It does not determine your damage or damage resist, and the effect of weapon levels are negligible on a first run but improve a weapon's effectiveness immensely in ng+ and beyond. Number 2, there's none of this piddly ass "infinite 2 swing combo" shit with a little fancy schmancy twirl or projectile that eats up your pwecious durability. You got five weapon types, all of them have a pair of interconnected chain of attacks with several different combo finishers for massive stagger and damage. Number 3, you don't have some ambiguous story with a bunch of items descriptions and boss cutscenes that plagiarizing faggots on youtube have to spell out for you, you have clear open ended and close ended questions here. You don't know who caused the surge, but you do learn Sally initiated the reboot that allowed it to happen. You don't know who Jonah Guttenberg is, but you do get hints he may be human or a robot. It does tell you what Resolve was, Utopia was, why Irina got fucked up, what Davey's deal was, what month and year it was, what this and that was used for.

THERE ARE TWO SCREENS RIGHT BEFORE THE BLACK CERBERUS FIGHT THAT TELL YOU WHAT TO DO, FOR FUCK'S SAKE

Number 4, you can parry lasers, giant cranes, and psycho crushers.

>>14872237

>Cyborgs were part of Utopia

Wrong. Despite it being called the Utopia Preservation Project it's mentioned several times throughout R&D that it was Barrett's personal project although he says it was a response to the whole "oops the nanite dispersion system kills most organic life" thing. Speaking of nanite dispersion system

PROJECT UTOPIA WASN'T THE NANITES YOU MOUTH BREATHING RETARDS

Utopia was the artificial compound that was made to replace the organic one that wasn't cleaning up the pollution as fast as it was being generated. In testing R&D learned that roughly 95% of organic material died when exposed to it. The nanites were going to disperse the utopia compound over the planet in a single rocketload, and this whole process was Project Utopia.

I put a good 60 hours into a pirated copy of The Surge and didn't regret it. The game is by no means amazing, but it's pretty good and far better than it seemed like it could be, given the studio behind it. If the level design is as good as the first one (interconnecting paths, opening shortcuts as a reward for exploration, a general sense of everything feeling like it exists in a single continuous, non-intersecting plane), the combat is polished up a bit, and we get a lot more gear variety, I'll be sold.

I'm excited for The Surge 2 because every new thing this developer puts out is much better than their previous efforts. Lords of the Fallen is complete garbage. The Surge is okay-ish, with noticeable problems but also some interesting ideas and mechanics. Creo World is great, with much more variety in the enemies and environment than the base game, as well as a bunch of new mechanically interesting implants. If The Surge 2 fits with this trend, it could easily be the best game of 2019.
