Also can anyone help me on the differences between the default webm settings between FFmpeg and mkvmerge? I sometimes use mkvmerge to remux webms when I just go over the filesize limit to avoid having to re-encode and an anon mentioned in a previous webm thread that the reason for that is because mkvmerge uses different default values for webms than what FFmpeg uses. But after looking through both of their documentations I'm still not able to replicate mkvmerge's results using FFmpeg.

Yes and no. Do you need to play Drakenguard to understand any of the characters and story? Not really and Nier is a fine start. Drakenguard mainly sets the background events that lead to Nier Gestalt/Replicant. You'll miss references to characters and events, but the core story is largely detached from Drakenguard.
I do recommend playing Drakenguard first though because playing by release order is the only correct answer ever.

Perseus Mandate has some awful open maps which make it difficult for all the wrong reasons, but that's it. There's also an option to do a no-gun run using only your melee and grenades.
FthreeAR is piss easy with only a couple of bullshit speedbumps.
