ce249d No.14865194

I am looking for a action and/or RPG game for PC that I can get autistically lost in. For the first 2-3 expansions or so, I really enjoyed World of Warcraft. I recently attempted to play and it feels like all the soul has been totally sucked out of the game. I never feel like I'm really getting any stronger and the whole thing just feels like a huge slog. Knowing that at level cap I'm subjected to endless time-locked content is also very discouraging.

I recently tried Path of Exile, which I thought was very fun and I was having a blast with. I spent about 600 hours in it and then they announced that Tencent was becoming a majority stakeholder, and I simply can't support that and now refuse to play PoE because of it.

This has left a bit of a void in my gaming. I have a handful of single player games I have been playing, but most of them are fairly short and I will have 100%ed them sooner rather than later.

What I am looking for is a single-player game for PC. It doesn't necessarily have to be a WoW clone (truly, I would prefer single-player and everything doable solo). However, I would like it to have a very large amount of content, difficult bosses that can be done solo with effort, and grinding. Skill trees/talents, upgrading weapons, job advancements, and anything MMO-ish are also welcome. I am not a huge fan of tactics-style games but would be open to trying one if it was really solid and good for beginners to the genre. I'm totally fine with difficult games, especially ones that are difficult at first but you can ultimately wreck them once you get good/strong enough.

I have tried Grim Dawn and Diablo III, but the former felt very bare-bones and the latter seems soulless much like modern WoW. I know Kingdoms of Amalur gets a lot of shit, but I really enjoyed it, since it was basically just WoW copied and pasted to be just single player. I 100%ed it at least twice. However, I have tried to play Skyrim about 4 different times vanilla and every time I get out of the starting area I just feel ridiculously bored.

I am also installing Nioh right now since I heard that was good.

Any reccommendations?

Mount n Blade? Mount n Blade.

Some other games I've gotten really, really into in the past include the first Dungeon Defenders; Sanctum 2; Torchlight 2; Risk of Rain; Nier Automata and Dustforce. Some of those have a lot of overlap with what I'm looking for, some less so.

I'll give it a look, thanks.

MGSV if you want to be an uber-autist and unlock every single platform, emblem, cassette tape, side-mission, weapon, attachment, gear and uniform.

MGS: Peace Walker if MGSV wasn't grindy enough.

Other than that I would recommend Monster Hunter. Pick any you want honestly.

Modded Minecraft. I've lost so much time to that hypnotic sound of pick hitting stone. Find a mod where you advance through ages for additional grindiness; unlocking things that are incredibly basic in vanilla Minecraft like smelting iron or moving water become much more rewarding once you realize how much you miss them when they're gone.

ce249d No.14865265

You could help me improve it. Unfortunately a lot of games that everyone else seems to like, I can't really get interested in. The choices I mentioned just ended up being the games that have appealed to my autism the most over the hundreds and hundreds I've tried. Except Automata, which doesn't really have much to unlock when all is said and done.

I should add that this isn't what you want for challenging bosses unless you find a really really good mod.

I've heard of it plenty of times…I just never bothered to play it because it didn't seem like my kind of game.

Diablo 2 is a infinitely better game than Diablo 3. If you prefer a more methodological approach to combat compared to PoE's potion spam/fill the screen with projectiles/aoe approach, then D2 will also be far more enjoyable than PoE.

I've heard that the Disgaea and Etryian Odyssey series are ones where you can get your grind on pretty hard, needs emulation though.

JRPGs usually tend to have a fair bit of grinding involved to do the optional content.

If you want to run around and do random stuff like exploring and doing side quests and all that good shit, there's Morrowind. If you're a fag there's also Oblivion and Skyrim.

d31001 No.14866915

You could try terraria, it's extremely long and can be modded, I'm currently doing a thorium mod run which adds tons of bosses and shit, or if you like grinding mindlessly maybe you will like warframe.

It's sad to hear about tencent buying 80% of the shares, I fucking love poe, hopefully they wont make any change outside of China. I'm sure they will and it will break my hearth

What is considered the ideal base Diablo 2 experience? In terms of expansions etc. I'd like to try Median XL, but I want to play the base game first. Basically should I get the expansion?

385ba1 No.14867429

Yes, get the expansion.

Adds lots of improvements and some classes.

1.09 first and then try the latest version which is 1.13 or some such. Your characters should be compatible between versions too. The Plugy mod lets you pick and choose which patch to play on. The reason why I recommend 1.09 is because 1.10+ overhauled the skill system with synergies which made a lot of skills 100% worthless and thus strongly encouraged cookie-cutter builds.

>Looking for single-player grindy PC games

>I want to torture myself on purpose with repetitive actions for hours or even days on end to reap a reward that's grossly disproportionate to the effort I put into earning it.

What kind of people do this? Ah, yes, the same kind of people that play with WASD.

Oh fuck off edge-lord.

Baldur´s 1&2 and especially Torment are the only ones actually worth the monies for the enhancements.

Who needs to whack off on shitty mod sites agonizing how to install all that crap instead of just get it all ready to boot AND with fixes of ancient bugs.

The difference between modding the enhanced editions vs. the originals these days is just a few short steps. It's even easier than it used to be. And if that's still too much, pirate the enhanced editions, but all you really get out of doing so are some dodgy characters and a silly meme class in the shaman.

385ba1 No.14868276

>>14868071

>>14868129

Maybe Torment is worth the enhanced version.

Seeing as Avellone did some editorial pass on it.

It also has a widescreen patch as well, and doesn't have any memebad characters.

Not like it's gonna be hard to do it on your own anyway, with the original versions.

1f2f6a No.14869149

Ah Fuck it, I'll say it: Dark Souls. It meets most of your criteria, although the grinding is mostly optional and only necessary if you suck.

<Leveling improvements are noticeable.

<Not much MMO shit, but there's bosses and weapon upgrades.

<End up wrecking enemies you used to fear

Not exactly a 600 hour game, but there's a solid 80-90 on your first playthrough. Inb4 sub-80 hour smugness.

Dragon's Dogma, especially the dark arsian expansion.

Ass Creed Origins, if you completely ignore your bitchy wife and the main quest, is okay for awhile.

ce249d No.14874424

I have tried SO hard to get into Dragon's Dogma. I have seriously attempted to play it 3-4 times. I know I've at least tried some sort of ranger class and some sort of magic-based class, but I never really managed to stay hooked past the first big fight with that giant whatever-it-is. I heard it gets way way better after the first city, is that true?

If you like catch-em-alls, the Siralim series is good. 3 just hit early access the other day, and it's definitely the best yet. Theory crafting galore, for a monster catcher, and a near infinite end game.

Most games I could think of have already been recommended. However you may like E.Y.E., Dark souls 1, and maybe maybe borderlands 1 and dying light.

You should also play sanctum 1 if you haven't already, it's a lot different than 2 but still very fun. Always good to see more people who have played them.
