This was one of the least interesting things I have seen on /v/ lately.

What I find interesting is, assuming this is all real, the guy managed to open or convert the map files of Souls engine to open them in another game. If we're at this point, where the fuck is the level editing for Souls games?

Problem is it's not a cakewalk so it's unlikely it'll ever be made. The map format also needs to be figured out and the engine is fairly locked down.

Still bothered how they decide to remake Dark Souls instead of Demon's Souls with the cut content put into the game with some improvements to many of the mechanics like adding dual wielding, putting a limit on how much grass you can carry (or use the estus system) and making more weapons have unique animations.

I don't care really. It's nice that they got the game running on technology that doesn't suffer from crippling performance issues depending on the required fill rate for an area. It's nice the game has a few tweaks to make it less tedious like using however many consumables at once. You have to keep in mind, it's not a remake. It's a port/remaster. Same shit. A lot of people hear the word remaster and associate the "master" part of that word like it's a big deal. It's not. Movies get remastered, it's just a new release. Music gets remastered, it's a new release. Remastering in film means they touch up some things for a higher quality release. Remastering in games means they touch up some things for a higher quality release.

I'd rather see Demon's Souls stay as it is. None of that stuff needs to be remade, but I wouldn't be against a remaster of it.

Since we're talking about GTA, the weirdest thing I've ever seen was the fact that the 2011 mobile release of GTA III had leftover multiplayer maps inside the game files as GTA III was originally intended to have MP all the way back in 2001, but none of those files were present in the original releases. Did they base the mobile version on an earlier build? A similar thing but to a lesser degree happened with mobile LCS which had some vehicles and stuff buried there that weren't around in the PSP/PS2 version (but were mentioned in the handling files).

No, that's a remake. Remaster would be fixing something in the old release and rereleasing it on a new platform. The closest in the video game world would be something like the Kingdom Hearts Final Mixes or Sonic Adventure International where the original games got released for the same platform in Japan but with new content and updated assets from the international release, since most of the time to release a game on a newer platform you have to remake it even if you reuse the original assets. Ports utilizing the same engine work as remasters too if they have added content over the others. But all of these examples still don't take into account a newer platform, just different platforms within the same generation or even the original platform, so it's still not exactly a remaster. I don't think there really can be such a thing for video games. It's pretty much all remakes or ports.
