Sony, Micro, Nintendo,… All of them know you are going to buy the game for 60 bucks because you have already done it a million times. The only difference is that now they don't need to pay any third parties any cut of the sales nor they need to spend money in making and storing physical stuff. This is high level of kikery.
64557e No.14859851
Physical retailers refuse to carry games if they are sold cheaper on digital stores, even though it's cheaper to produce digital copies (i.e. server costs) so the brick-and-mortar stores, where the majority of games are still bought, hold the distribution power over the publishers.
So they force price parity on the retail price and then undercut it by putting the game on sale anyway.
It's jewishness, all the way down.

On Steam, DRM is completely opt-in. It's completely possible to run most games downloaded off of Steam without ever launching Steam. Just navigate to their installation folder and run them from there instead. Obviously that won't work for any game that uses Steam servers for multiplayer and of course some games will have home grown DRM, but Steam isn't the problem there.
Plus if worst comes to worst and DRM actually becomes too annoying, you can always just pirate.

Because publishers don't seem inclined to try to compete with used after market prices, either because they're dumb, or it makes things look better when they go on sale, or because the occasional full price digital purchase from the lazy/stupid is considered to be a plus. Beyond that, digital is generally the same price as physical at launch, because companies operate off the notion that it's the game itself that's worth the $40/60, not so much the disk/cart with the data. This lets them cut down production costs on having to do more prints down the line, assuming they even do one to begin with, as digital download means that, in that format, as long as the service to buy off and the game itself are up (licensing, etc, can remove it), availability is always high compared to the older (and better, if you ask me) days of physical being the primary/only medium. They save some money on their own end, and usually don't feel like passing those savings onto the customer, increasing their profit.
Occasionally a game will see a permanent digital markdown as time goes on, like Soul Sacrifice Delta jumping down from $35 to $17 if memory serves, but more often than not they'll just remain at full price almost all year round, for years on end. For a comparison, Tales of Zesteria PS3 is down to about $20 physical where I live, occasionally $12 at the place. Yet Bamco keeps it at the full $50 ($60 for the PS4 version) outside of sales, and has done so for years now (game's been out in the west for about two and half years).

Digital doesn't depreciate in value over time like inventory taking up warehouse space does. The price goes down or the product goes on sale to move units. Digital price doesn't change until someone tells it to change. Which usually never happens because people will buy it at that price for the sheer convenience of not having to go to the store or wait on shipping.
