What are some videogame endings which make you reflect on everything you've been through and come off feeling it was all worth it?
I just finished Unreal, and even though the actual story is as simple as one can get, the whole journey of the game combined with the music in the ending sequence made me feel in a way no other game in recent memory quite could. It made me feel exhilarated, melancholic, and hopeful all at the same time, and I felt glad for having finished the game. Not in a "I finally beat it" kind of way, but "I'm glad to have been through all of this" kind of way.

I always think about RDRedemption when this kinda thread comes around. Not because of the actual story, but just the music that comes with it. The story isn't grand by any means, but the music hits me with a moment of emotional retrospect. I recall thinking the story was great, but that being said I can't remember any of it. I remember the songs though. And if it weren't for the music, I probably would've forgotten about this game entirely.

I know I'm going to catch flak for this, but I liked the ending of FO3 if you sacrifice yourself. I'm fully aware that it doesn't make any sense in context, but It feels like a nice conclusion to the lone wanderers story and the visuals of the water cleaning up, revealing the Jefferson statue was pretty powerful. I should add that I was a pleb who didn't know too much about Fallout when I played it.
I also liked the ending to Dragon Age Origins, meeting everyone in the throne room, the slideshow and even the song at the end served as a nice capstone to an epic adventure.

Alternatively, can you give advice on what makes a memorable ending?
I'm working on an RPG right now which is very bleak but it has a few different endings, of which each ending is a different shade of bleak with only one being arguably a good fate for humanity.
In each of them the main idea for emotional impact is a mix of several concepts:
Surreality and batshit insanity hitting even hard in an already surreal and grim game.
Character deaths of the very few actual recurring NPCs in the game.
The idea that you personally fucked up whilst having existed to fuck this up from the very start on a multi-universal godly scale. There was nothing you could've possibly done to fix the situation but it was still your fault.
And, last but not least, completely unprecedented designs that hit from left field as well as total failure.
The original version of the game supposedly managed to have a somewhat memorable ending due to the surrealist nature of it which was induced through memorable design.

at the risk of getting called a faggot for bringing up FFTA and not the original FFT/WotL, i thought the story in advance was really good. the ending, while not at all challenging from a gameplay perspective, was nice because it showed those NEETs-in-the-making that using what they learned in ivalice to improve their lives in reality was better than leaving their entire world behind to stay there forever. or maybe i'm just a nostalgic retard, who knows.

Nehrim. Sometimes you just have to let go.
The entire plot centers around some dead guys who were resurrect by the big bads because they did not achieve the goals they had in life - and became so stupidly fanatical in trying to achieve them that they remained oblivious of how their actions would lead to an extinction event

There are three different endings to Killer7, but they all take place one after the other, and none of them really matter to the others.
The first ending has Garcian realizing that he killed the previous Killer7, and instead of them being actual people, he transforms into them, to the point where they were practically 1:1 likeness of the originals
When he encounters himself in a previous life, Emir Parkreiner, as it commits suicide, his suit is covered in blood, which means he's a traitor like Kaede
He opens his briefcase and the player sees the different weapons the Killer7 uses, with only Garcian's gun missing
Ending 2 is him deciding whether to kill the man that could cause WW3. Garcian's entire upbringing as Emir Parkreiner made him loyal to Japan, yet his reincarnation makes him loyal to the US. Either way, he kills the final Heaven's Smile and his story is over.
Many years later, his master, Harman Smith, and his enemy, Kun Lan, are fighting each other in Hong Kong. Nothing has changed.
And don't get me started on Lisa's endings. That shit hits hard as can be.
Embed is the song for Killer7's ending. It always makes me freeze up a little.

I felt Persona 3 did it well in that you're told that the antagonist is a cosmic entity that's going to destroy everything and you can't stop it. And the antagonist is offering you the choice to just let it happen quicker without you knowing about it. Or you can instead choose to fight the villain pointlessly. And what's interesting is most of the characters think murdering the villain to get it over with is the better option. It really ties into the general themes of suicide and accepting your own demise. The character Aigis says at the end that people make their own meaning when they are aware of their own eventual inevitable demise.
