Would you say the opinion of someone who's first experience with video games is with games from 6th gen onwards is worth having into account?

0c6270 No.14848080

The only opinion thats worth a damn is my own

e023a2 No.14848093

Dreamcast slash ps2 era was the golden age.

6312ba No.14848105

first experiences doesnt matter when it comes to gaming. i know plenty of people that grew up playing absolute trash and have good taste in games once they started playing what they liked. and i know people that grew up playing games in the 16-bit era with complete trash taste in games and sees games today as a massive improvement.

That depends on what exactly you are asking.

The only people whose opinions are worthwhile are those who grew up with a Vectrex and nothing else.

ff9c50 No.14848113

Thinking about games in terms of generations already outs your opinion as shit.

There are good games and bad games.

The opinion of someone who liked terrible games as a kid won't magically become better because he's been wrong since the NES era.

this tbh

a5cda3 No.14848130

Sorry, I don't listen to people who use "who's" when they're supposed to use "whose"

344ce6 No.14848179

Really ones opinion/taste in games all depends on what they've played. You could have started gaming on the 2600 and only played one game per platform and have worse taste or a weaker opinion than someone who played only even current gen stuff.

DC was packed full of shitty arcade ports, and the PS2 was mostly cancerous multiplats. Gen 4-5 was the golden age you literal child.

d3d5cc No.14848296

If they have good taste, that's fine.

Entry point shouldn't matter, hut its likely that the person has shit taste though.

Not guaranteed though.

that depends on the opinion.

No, not at all. Other people's opinions don't matter anyway (at least in this context) - I'm not looking to play a game just because somebody else liked it. If I want to use their judgement as a jumping off point, I'd look for how they're able to critically analyze shit. Any dipshit can have an opinion, but being able to list objective qualities in a game is going to swing me in the right direction much more so than

>well, I like/dislike this game because it's, just, like, my opinion, man

So it doesn't really matter what gen they started with. Anyone who's not a complete normalfag super retard would be able to see that, say, 7th gen console games were mostly trash, even if it's the console generation they started with.

To be honest I don't know, since anyone that gives recommendations here doesn't mention what gen they are from. Maybe they're generally good, maybe they're generally bad, who knows? I don't have any experience with such people in real life since 5th gen was out around the time I was a kid, although personally I grew up with 3rd gen.

277fcc No.14848592

I think your opinion matters or not based on its content and not by how much of an oldfag or a newfag you think you are.

>Gen 4-5

>Golden age

Maybe if you were a "90s kid" however gen 5 was a fucking mess while Gen 4 was inferior to Gen 6. Gen 6 is basically Gen 4 but developers actually knowing how 3D works. Hell I grew up with a Genesis, PSX and N64. I know for a fact that Gen 6 games are usually much more polished and fun. Gen 6 was the golden age if not for God Hand alone.

Well, if anything, the actual so-called "golden age" of arcade games is late 70s to early 80s.

As far as console gaming goes, I'd agree with the other anon, partially, I think 3rd and 4th gens were the golden age.

6th gen was fine, but I'll take the average mediocre 2D game over the average mediocre 3D game. And the peak 2D games of 4th gen don't really have any competent competitors on 6th gen.

God Hand is great but I prefer 2D beat 'em ups.

54ce8b No.14849585

No, until they play at least in the 80s games (be it on consoles or PC/Amiga). Those are the basis for all good video games. Thus, opinions coming from such person that did not play the classics are never valid.

1478ca No.14849886

Sort of, although most everything was homogenized at that point there was still some AA quality and perhaps they have some semblance of taste. Anything past and I'd hardly even consider it a hobby at that point.

4a47cc No.14849894

>>14848073

Don't worry anon, we won't bully you for just missing out on all the good games. But we WILL bully you.

d0d2a6 No.14849921

Opinion on what? This thread is fucking horrible. It's like OP was too busy sucking cock to even complete his thought.

If he was referring to whether a given game is good or not, literally no one's opinion matters but your own. I've been burned by reviewers whose opinions I seemed to be aligned with many times.

If you're talking about opinions on games as a medium, then no, of course it fucking doesn't.

19e57c No.14850171

Only if they actually play older games.

>>14848093

Unlike this cancerous retard.

6b37c4 No.14850186

If they play everything in sight and think for themselves, then yes.

It's not just your game choice/game era that makes you a casual. It's your mental approach and the way you think.

b5f397 No.14852389

No.
