MNC was a lot better, but the devs got excessive with their attempts to balance the game and stack it against skilled players. I'm fairly convinced that's why SMNC was created, to try and use simple pay2win and grind2win tactics to make long-time paying players dramatically more powerful than someone who just picked up the game and was naturally good at shooters.

So nothing of value was lost.

The game's balance was overall better in MNC compared to SMNC. I don't think anyone actually welcomed Uber Ent's statements about how they wanted to make MNC more like League of Legends, and this was back when people were talking shit about MNC being a TF2 ripoff to begin with. The only good thing SMNC had over MNC was that it had more playable characters but the designs were less thematically consistent and their movesets were still designed for SMNC's general gameplay design, such as Veteran being the cliche hook and nuke guy in every ASSFAGGOTS.

In MNC, matches could end within five minutes if you were good enough or if the enemy team was braindead, so any unbeatable snowballing would end before they could ever begin, but at the same time it was a lot easier to make comebacks compared to SMNC because being able to land hits and not get hit mattered a lot more. Every character dealt a good amount of melee damage and it was much more possible to knock players off the map with abilities or ejectors. Even the fucking support, if he was good enough, could catch an assassin and chunk most of her healthbar in a few hits, while the assassin could also give tanks and gunners trouble. In SMNC, each characters' utility amounted to just blowing every ability at once.
