c592f8 No.14832234

The MSQ for those too poorfag to sub right now:

Asahi brings Yotsuyus parents back and mindbreaks her, she kills them both and using crystals asahi brought she turns into the primal Tsukuyomi, after beating her the echo shows you this was a plan by "zenos" to stop the rise of the popularis in garlemald but after your beat her Yostuyu kills her brother and Maxima takes charge and goes ahead with the peace talks anyway. Hien confirms Zenos is dead and this Zenos is an imposter. Alphinaux says the ascians are making their move and goes with Maxima to the Garlean capital as the Doman Ambassador.

Then Gosetsu goes gray from the stress, shaves his head and announces he is leaving on a pilgrimage to pray for the dead. This concludes the Doma story and othard is now just the four lords and crafting dailies from now on. Then lise, alisae and thancred join you and head to zeno's grave in ala mhigo. The grave is empty and zenos watches in the distance in the outfit of a resistance fighter. You return to the rising stones as everyone is calling ascian and call up yshtola and uriange.

Cut to the imperial palace and emperor galvus talks with another zenos saying 'i work to ensure the survival of this star', meanwhile the zenos in resistance uniform is putting together a machine in an allagan scrapyard saying 'i thought my time on this stage was over but clearly i have a new part to play' and he rides the machine off into the distance. So there is the dead one who woke up and what looks like an ascian in a clone body. Then you sit down for some tea with the girls and the several cutscene warning plays

They talk about how all the kami related primals are summoned by a relic and not prayer and allude to odins sword that works the same way, maybe he is not an elder primal but a kami hence the katana, thancred shows up and they still think theres one zenos possessed by an ascian. Cut to Maima and alphinaux riding an airship over 'the burn' that part of othard thats a lifeless desert. Maxima says a constant chain of summonings bled it of all aether. Then magitek armor attacks them but its a type the garleans dont recognise. The ship crashes and they need to evacuate. suddenly a duty popup appears 'emissary of dawn' mid cutscene. YOU ARE NOW PLAYING AS ALPHINAUX. Using a custom moveset and moonstone carbuncle you fight the garleans attacking the ones you partnered with in a moon white desert. But the numbers keep on coming. Then a gunslinger knocks the leader down. A man with a FF8 gunblade and two lancers appear. You fight waves of adds as this gunblade user throws out multiple limit breaks at once.

after the fight they talk, he calls alphinaux a scion and says he has history with the order. He says his name is not yours for the asking and he throws a burned ascian mask on the ground. "The face of our prey" he says. He says come with him or die on the sand and if they need a name call him 'shadowhunter'. The camera pans around to show from his belt hangs a dozen ascian masks including a new one shaped like a wolf. Cut back to the rising stones and thancred is setting forth for the empire to look for signs of ascian infiltration.

Theres more in the side story stuff like in the ivalice raid it reveals in this timeline Ashe was the one who died in the opening events of XII's war not her fiance but thats all a bit more usual stuff.

I'm inclined to think they got better writers after ARR and kept the ARR shitters on sidequest stuff.

When I started the Rabanastre quest I gave the first couple cutscenes a go, but it was so boring I skipped the rest. I watched the whole Crystal Tower storyline; hated it. I watched most of the Void Ark storyline and it was also shit. So I wasn't very inclined to sit through more.

I've actually recently gone through the entire MSQ from start to finish. ARR was absolute, unmitigated shit. Full of nothing but filler bitchwork like this quest we're discussing only for it to cram half the story into the last two dungeons. I could autisically break down everything I hated about it, but tbh I skipped most of it up until halfway through the Crystal Braves storyline, which has been retconned to make zero sense so I don't suppose it matters. The highlight being watching Raubahn slice a potato.

Everyone and their mother tells me Heavensward is peak FF14 and the best thing ever. It was a marked improvement, traveling with Ysale and Estinien actually felt like I was on a quest. They did throw a bit of bitchwork in there, but it's less salty than ARR since you're "sharing" the bitchwork with others; like killing killer trees while Alphinaud collects firewood. Sure as hell beats "Go collect ten pig assholes while we wait around headquarters that is annoying out of the way." The only time the Heavensward story really falls short is when it deals with the aftermath of ARR. Why is Ilberd executing Raubahn and trying to kill us if he's no longer employed by Lolorito? Why did Lolorito send the CB after us if he intended on stopping Telediri's plan anyways? Once the potato got peeled he could have stopped everything. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they retconned it so he's not the evil, plotting, rapefugee-hating guy ARR made him out to be, and at the expense of an already shit storyline, but goddamn.

Stormblood has shown itself to be the height of their writing. Still not perfect, but it's been very good about making its characters, particularly its villians, interesting and relatable. Having it explained to Nanamo that you can't just give money away for free to refugees because anyone would become complacent that way and that giving someone a hand up, not a hand out, that also profits you is the only sustainable way to help anybody.

Nevermind that I've always wondered why these refugees bypassed living innawoods if they can't get a job anywhere else.

>>14835158

I play with Japanese audio and while I don't speak nip I do recognize certain phrases and words and there's some annoying disconnect between what's said and what's translated. I can't give very good examples, but two small ones that come to mind are

>ARR story where Cid says over Linkpearl to jump off the cliff in 5 seconds.

<Japanese counts down and English counts up

For what purpose?

>Heavensward endgame story I constantly hear characters say Knightsu of Roundu

<English never once specifically says Knights of the Round

It's a bit on the nose for a reference, but why remove it?

This makes me believe that all the memes like this and the names for quests are the result of (((localisation)))

88e126 No.14841182

>>14839659

Now that's some valid criticism I can work with. seriously this is good discussion fodder, so good on you anon

So ARR is shit because 1.0 was shit, and they somehow had to make a new game while also running the old game but not throwing away all of the old shit because players were invested in it even though it was total shit. Literally the first 40 levels in ARR is wrapping up crap from 1.0, and some of the 1.0 stuff doesn't even get wrapped up until Stormblood looking at you ALC questline, but to be fair they did a good job of it there. As someone who played 1.0 and got tired of that bullshit about 2 months into release, ARR was a breath of fresh air, and relatively speaking, things progressed at a much more lively pace. That should give you an idea of how bad 1.0 was, but it doesn't excuse the pacing in ARR. Just provides context for it. ARR was leaps better than 1.0, but compared to 3.0 and 4.0, playing ARR is like watching a video of an accomplished actor as a teenager in drama club. Said actor was probably head and shoulders above his peers, but looking back, you realize just how much he has grown since then.

As for Heavensward, yeah, the "she got assassinated but not really" kinda peeved a lot of people off, but they sorta made it work if you ignore the fact that all of this big change all of a sudden actually wasn't. Which was jarring. Raubahn slicing potato was top tier, as was imo the betrayal of the Crystal Braves, even if you could see it coming a mile away. You still didn't know exactly what Ilberd was planning until shortly before everything went to shit, but as far as his motivations go, it was never about being for hire by Lolorito; Ilberd saw a chance to take back Ala Mhigo, and he took it. Working for Lolorito just got him some dosh and access to connections he wouldn't have otherwise had. Maintaining access to those supplies for as long as possible are what enabled him to set things up at Baelsar's Wall and ultimately summon Shinryu.

>Knights of the Round

I think they don't mention it as a form of non-spoiler. I'm not 100% sure that "Knights of the Round" means the same thing in nip that it does to the English speaking audience. It may be more of a reference to the Knights of the Roundtable than anything, but I can't say for sure.

>localization memes

Yeah, we get a lot of those. I admit I chuckled at Tide Pod since it's an attack designed to hurt what is likely to be the most responsible, mature member of the group, so I found the irony entertaining. While sometimes the "le ebin" memeing gets annoying, they also have a knack for referencing some truly obscure shit from the various FF series.

>Raid storylines

I don't think they were that bad. I rather enjoyed the Void Ark series, and I'm liking the new Ivalice stuff. CT was meh for me, but Void Ark etc. did a good job of wrapping up some loose ends regarding the War of the Magi that happened during the 6th age. The guy who wrote the original Tactics story is the one in charge of writing the current Ivalice storyline as well, and while it doesn't have quite the same grandiosity to it, I won't make my final judgment until I have seen the whole thing play out. It's looking to shape up into something pretty great if you can ignore Ramza being a cunty fucker but even then I think he's not himself and is being influenced by the Duma or Otius somehow.

Look, I'll grant that healers are certainly more mature than your typical "just one more cast of Fire IV/let me finish this combo/this oGCD is almost ready so I'll use it and then I'll move out of the aoe" dps is, Rescue alone has been responsible for more deaths in Stormblood than an immature tank. Granted, they're generally hilarious deaths, but the fact remains that no one with that kind of power can truly be considered trustworthy.

Oh no I know that. It's very obvious they were scrambling to generate a playable storyline after the 1.0 fiasco. That's understandable. Unlike their story which is hot garbage. All the Scions making pointless noble sacrifices, but not really, being one of the biggest offenders. I was so glad Alisaie said to Lyse "I wasn't making a last stand. Who does that?"

> You still didn't know exactly what Ilberd was planning until shortly before everything went to shit, but as far as his motivations go, it was never about being for hire by Lolorito; Ilberd saw a chance to take back Ala Mhigo, and he took it. Maintaining access to those supplies for as long as possible are what enabled him to set things up at Baelsar's Wall and ultimately summon Shinryu.

I meant specifically the early HW quests where you rescue Raubahn from him. His ties to Lolorito were officially cut by then IIRC. Him working for Lolorito to begin with is perfectly understandable.

>I think they don't mention it as a form of non-spoiler. I'm not 100% sure that "Knights of the Round" means the same thing in nip that it does to the English speaking audience. It may be more of a reference to the Knights of the Roundtable than anything, but I can't say for sure.

Anon, they're saying the name in engrish, not nip. Was the summon ever known as anything else other than Knights of the Round? According to the wiki the names are

<Knights of the Round, also known as Knights of Round (ナイツオブラウンド, Naitsu obu Raundo

As a non-spoiler I might give you, but that's not the translator's job. If the original script called them Knights of the Round by name then it should remain that way for better or worse.

>they also have a knack for referencing some truly obscure shit from the various FF series.

That stuff is alright.

Void Ark was pretty meh for me. CT the only person I liked was Nero. I haven't given Ivalice a fair shake to be fair.

What pissed me off about CT was everyone's immediate reaction of "This thing powered an entire technologically advanced situation during its golden age, but it might be misused eventually? Lets seal it forever." Nevermind that its normal state wasn't misused, but creating an entire fucking moon, that is now gone, and channeling even more power with that is what caused the Umbral Era. Then we get a flavor of the week character who learns how to use the tower lock himself inside and go to sleep until we know how to use the tower. WAHT. Then low and behold we need a fuckton of power for something in the MSQ, can't remember what and I think "Gee, wouldn't it be nice if we had a place that had a fuckton of power we could get that from. To be fair the MSQ actually handled that well, but it still bugged me.

My thought too. He was manipulated, has found that the rot now infests the highest levels of government, and is out to purge the world of the Ascian menace. Whether or not this will cause a first shard-like Flood of Light due to an imbalance remains to be seen, but I foresee another big confrontation with Baelsar on down the line, as we seek to preserve the balance while he goes balls deep to end the Ascians once and for all.

>>14841393

CT felt like a training wheels run for me. It wasn't bad per se, but the random Mi'qote almost-Mary Sue irked me. The way they wrapped it up was pure stupid anime too; here's this incredible thing of power, but it's gone now forever m'kay? The way they opted to do it with Alexander was much better.

>early HW quests rescuing Raubahn

It's a bit hazy, but I think the CB had gone rogue from Lolorito at that point, or were about too. Raubahn needed rescuing because he's fucking Raubahn, and his voice carried weight once the lies of TA and Lolorito had been exposed. Of course Lolorito gained clemency by virtue of his decision to abandon his plan once he realized what was going on with TA and the Sultana, and instead opting to drug her into a coma instead of letting TA's plan come to fruition and actually poison/kill her.

In short, I think the sequence of events went something like this:

>Lolorito bribes Ilberd and various command elements of the CB's under Alphinaud's nose

>Meanwhile, TA is scheming in the background to take out the Sultana

>Lolorito and TA, both as Monetarists, want less power in the Royalist faction, which is currently propped up by Raubahn with possible secondary support from Godbert, but that's conjecture at the time, given that if Raubahn were the sole supporter of the Royalist faction he would somehow have to have more wealth than both TA and Lolorito combined

>Lolorito, unlike TA, does not seek to be the head of power. Rather, he prefers to act as the power behind the throne, and sees an opportunity both to increase his personal power, remove a powerful opponent, and secure Ul'dah all in one fell swoop

>Ilberd's motivations are to exercise the power of Ul'dah via Lolorito to liberate Ala Mhigo

>TA just wants the Sultana dead, Raubahn removed from the picture, and himself as the new head of state

>Lolorito, wise to TA's plan, swaps the poison out for the coma-inducing drug, but otherwise let's everything play out on it's own

>He knows Raubahn well enough to know that when TA reveals his plan, Raubahn will lose it and likely kill him, thus removing his biggest opponent in the Monetarist faction

>Ilberd knows just how to tweak Raubahn to get him to snap, and he does so, resulting in Raubahn splitting some potato and then losing one of his arms from Ilberd

>Lolorito is now the de factor leader while an "investigation" occurs and all that bullshit, but he eventually realizes that Ilberd is not a tame dog like Raubahn was

>Lolorito engages his backup plan, tipping off the WoL and co. to the location of Raubahn so he can be freed

>He eventually meets with you and explains his role in things, and you find that the Sultana is totally fine

>He also reveals TA's machinations to the people of Eorzea, clearing the WoL's name in the process, all while his own actions are kept under wraps

>meanwhile, Ilberd, who sees Raubahn as a traitor to Ala Mhigo, gets spanked by the WoL in his futile effort to end Raubahn's life

>This is fine though, because Lolorito had realized that Ilberd was more trouble than he was worth, and likely that he had been siphoning off funds and goods to supply his faction of the resistance in preparation for his attack no Baelsar's Wall

>So tipping off the WoL about Raubahn's location serves two purposes; firstly saving Raubahn and re-strengthening the Royalist faction, thus bringing stability back to Ul'dah along with increased political capital and standing for Lolorito

>Secondly, it removes Ilberd from the equation by pitting him against the realms strongest warrior. It's only by virtue of his own caginess that Ilberd was able to escape the WoL, but even though the WoL didn't kill Ilberd, Lolorito still got what he wanted in the sense that Ilberd and the now-politically nconvenient Crystal Braves have had their pieces removed from the board

It's all rather convoluted, and much of this isn't stated outright, but rather inferred through action and consequence. Which is part of why I like it so much; it was very "palace intrigue," and even the "lol she's better now" hearkens back to Shakespearean plot lines.

Gonna give the trial a shot. Is there anything a newbie should be aware of or consider?

What about classes? There's quite a lot and I'm not sure what they play like or which I'd enjoy.

fe9f5b No.14843340

>>14843272

You can unlock every class on a single character after getting to level 15. You get an XP buff for leveling a class that's a lower level than your highest level class. Your starting class determines which city you end up in, but other than that, it wont effect much. Rogue can't be picked initially, but you can unlock it in Limsa.

66b397 No.14843382

>>14843272

Classes are the usual fair of tank dps healer with a single sort of hybrid dps healer with red mage. Past that they each have their own unique elements, like black mage running off a system of bouncing between spending all their mp and restoring it. One thing unique to melee dps is positioning in relation to the direction the target is facing, for example ninja's main combo finisher deals more damage from the back, yet it's upkeep combo finisher deals it's damage from the side of the enemy. The amount of positionals varies by class, with monk having the most and samurai having the least. Ranged classes largely use cast bars in some fashion with non magical ranged dps being able to toggle abilities requiring a cast time on and off when mobility or dps is more important.

Also the free trial has no duration but the max level is capped at 35.

Most of the classes start off really basic without many skills and it takes awhile for them to really get going. The combat does feel very slow to start, but later on the gcd becomes a lot lower for some classes, and you have to weave off gcd abilities between your skills. Also the class quests give skills and are required for unlocking the jobs later on.

It's a bit hazy, but I think the CB had gone rogue from Lolorito at that point, or were about too. Raubahn needed rescuing because he's fucking Raubahn, and his voice carried weight once the lies of TA and Lolorito had been exposed.

That's what I'm saying though. How did keeping Raubahn prisoner after being cut off from Lolorito's coin give any sort of advantage? He wasn't ransoming him, but set on executing him and us all the same.

>Of course Lolorito gained clemency by virtue of his decision to abandon his plan

What was his plan though? To keep the Crystal Braves in his pocket? What I gathered from his explanation is that he caught wind of TA's plan, and his only hope of stopping him was to go along with it. Which doesn't explain why he didn't drop all pretense of it once TA was dead and decided to witch hunt the scions anyways.

>Your greentext headcanon

That is a cogent sequence of events, but Lolorito said upheavals like that are bad for business and he likes the status quo. It could very well be lipservice, but I'm inclined to believe it.

No, given how they painted him at the end of 2.0, particularly with his ominous appearance in the HW trailer, I think it's very clear they had big plans to make him a bad guy in HW, but had a change of heart in the interim.

Tanks barely have to worry about enmity. Cooldowns are plentiful enough that Tanks will always have one available for tankbusters. And Tank DPS is the simplest shit in the game.

Being a tank is the easiest thing to be in this game. Even crafting is more complicated than being a tank.

62bc79 No.14855865

>>14855541

tanks and healers have a higher burden and larger responsibility though since a failure of either of their main tasks can have a large impact on the pull, where a dps or two dying does nothing aside from making the fight longer and messing with mechanics that assume all players are alive.

also, difficulty can mean different things when comparing jobs because, like you said, performing the main tank duties is laughably easy, but optimizing on tanks is harder than on dps since you need a level of coordination with the co-tank and healers that far exceeds what dps have to do. same for healers.

88e126 No.14856670

>>14852890

>>14854667

>tanks are easiest

Maybe in terms of doing combos, but in terms of actually playing the game/doing a fight, if you fuck up as a tank, you wipe. This means you need to A.) spend a lot of time learning the fight by actually doing it, so you know the timings of things and when to use cooldowns, and B.) you need to perform this all flawlessly each time because if you fuck just one thing up, the chances of the entire raid wiping go up drastically. If a DPS fucks something up in most cases it's just them that suffer. SE has been good about adding meaningful mechanics that force DPS to actually pay attention to something else other than "muh deeps" and requires them to have situational awareness beyond what side of the boss's ass they are looking at. So I can understand why a DPS might, on the surface, consider tanking to be easy due to the relatively simplistic GCD usage involved in tanking, but that's only because DPS have traditionally been able to get away with a great deal of tunnel visioning when it comes to performing their role. Outside of the unavoidable mechanics everyone has to deal with, it was really only in the toppest-tier content that a DPS had to really participate in the fight besides being a numbers monkey.

Here's hoping SE continues this trend of making DPS actually think about what's going on in the fight.

>>14855865

>performing the main tank duties is laughably easy

I'll add "with practice" to that. Running blind in a fight for the first time which is how everyone should do it for the first week or two a fight is out you don't know what is what. Is that casted skill a tank buster or a raid wide aoe? Is it a boss buff? Maybe an add summon? Sometimes this is obvious based on the name, and sometimes it's not. Sometimes you get shit like in O6s where the tank buster and the raid aoe have the same first word in the name so it's easy to confuse the two during the more hectic moments of the fight until you have had ample practice to know which is which. But you won't know until you experience it. Thus, the initial learning of the fight is hardest on the tanks and the healers because they are the ones who incrementally push the fight forward into unknown territory. A boss fight in this game is won first on the backs of the tanks and healers optimizing cooldown and skill usage in order to deal with incoming damage and mechanics. Once that is mastered, the "treadmill" of DPS optimization occurs, as the DPS learn exactly how far they can push their abilities during various phases and other little tricks to optimize their damage uptime on the boss.

But the heaviest lifting is done by the tanks and healers early on. They are the ones that grind themselves against the unknown in an effort to find a pattern of skill usage that works for the fight.

>Job I don't play is easy

>Job I play is hard

Holy fucking shit we're witnessing GAMEPLAY MASTERS having a HIGH LEVEL DISCUSSION. Please explain to us how doing the bare minimum (sitting in tank stance for tanks and dodging circles as a dps) to see the entire fight during a blind run takes both lots of skill and none at all at the same time.

Just because both jobs are designed to be played by daca anchor babies, which make up most of all mmos' playerbase, doesn't mean the jobs are easy to master. Sure, a malnourished chinese prisoner can get through a MSQ dungeon after playing it for 30 minutes; good luck having a group of up to 8 almost literal subhumans go through the Auschwitz field trip without being carried.

4 DPS have to know how to press their buttons and what they can get away with without dying. Some classes have skills they have to use in order to make the party deal more damage

2 Tanks have to mitigate damage, do their high impact combos and do gay shit with the boss such as making it face a certain direction

2 healers have to watch their fellow high school dropouts' hp bars while they use stone IV

It all sounds easy until you realize everyone involved has an IQ of 90 and a higher estrogen density than a bottle of soylent. If you happen to get actual people playing the game the results can be great such as finishing the fight without wiping because there wasn't some mouthbreathing tank that can't fuction without cactbot wanted to parse better but instead died to an auto and caused the other tank with tunnel vision to eat a tank buster without mitigation.

Just remember, farm lowbie shit until you get a Protean crystal to turn in to Krile. Make sure you're getting a chain from it so you get the guaranteed crystal at 30 along with the increased chance per chain. Hit 70 and did the DRK quest and man thats easily my favourite job quest in the game

>Track down missing kid with a strange power to summon souls out of darkness

>Seems he's gone mad and summons gaius' generals, the griffon, the temple knights and warriors of darkness to fight you all at once

>But you are backed up by Fray, both the dead DRK whos body you found in 3.0 when you picked up the job and your own darkside who is held back by your conscience to team up

>After a really fun movement heavy fight it turns out as fray is your darkside brought out by the soulstone this child is your empathy, sorrow and fear. Calming him the both return to the soulstone and the conflict inside you ends, your character looking peaceful and calm

>You return to Ishgard where the whole DRK story began, Sigurdu drops the edgelord act and calls you a true friend and you go for a walk

>At the Last Vigil you run into Count Fortempts who asks how you are doing and talks about your adventures but chokes up a little saying you are like a child to him even if he knows you cannot stay but are welcome to.

>Then your character visibly chokes up a little too, obviously thinking of you know who

>"As long as we keep him in our thoughts, Hauchefant will never be forgotten"

>"Our Promise: Quest complete"

What a good goddamn job quest. Also a love letter to Heavensward as a whole, both its themes and DRK as the flagship job for it. Ending where it began in Ishgard as the slow version of dragonsong players and you get a heart to heart with Fortempts was a really nice, memorable moment and its fucking rare when mmo quests do this nowadays. Shame all the other job quests bar maybe going to weeping city as RDM were so lackluster this expansion out of the ones i've done. This one i totally recommend checking out.

At 320 you can run Rabanastre and Deltascape for easy upgrades and use creation tomes for your 330 weapon that upgrades to 340 with a coin from Rab. Of course you can also get upgrades while farming tomes from places like Hell's Lid and Fractal (Hard) and maybe some of the other dungeons. Once you do get up a little bit at 325 you can run Sigmascape and get 350 gear. At 330 you can run Swallow's compass for 345 gear to help out. If you're really desperate you can buy crafted 350s on the MB, but I wouldn't suggest it.

I'm ilvl 353 right now just from doing these very basic things.

>>14876641

As this anon says, you can run Primal EX for gud gear as well. Which at 320 you can do up to Shinryu EX. I have yet to run any of these though. Probably should soon.

Raids:

Deltascape (Normal)

Minimum item level: 295

Drops item level 320 left/right side (tokens)

The Royal City of Rabanastre

Minimum item level: 305

Drops item level 330 left side and upgrade piece for creation/mendacity gear

Sigmascape (Normal)

Minimum item level: 325

Drops item level 350 left/right side (tokens)

The Ridorana Lighthouse

Minimum item level: 335

Drops item level 360 left side and upgrade piece for mendacity gear (both currently limited to one drop per week)

Trials:

The Minstrel's Ballad: [SB Spoilers]Shinryu's Domain

Minimum item level: 320 (Bypassed via preform/pf!)

Drops item level 335 weapons and tokens which can be exchanged for weapons

The Jade Stoa (Extreme)

Minimum item level: 340 (Bypassed via preform/pf!)

Drops item level 355 weapons and tokens which can be exchanged for weapons

The Minstrel's Ballad: [4.3 Spoilers]Tsukuyomi's pain

Minimum item level: 350

Drops item level 365 weapons and tokens which can be exchanged for weapons

If you attempt any of the trials at below the minimum item level, pick up some Vitality Materia VI and throw them in your accessories

Recommended order would be to grind out some Sigmascape gear, then grab your one piece of lighthouse gear and jump into the 4.3 trial in party finder. If you know what you're doing, being a few item levels too low won't be a significant problem.

Assuming you cannot craft i350 gear and trade them in for i360 gear.

The new dungeon, The Swallow Compass, drops i345 gear, both right and left side. Its a good place to start and give you an okay amount of tomestones of creations.

i345 gear is okay enough to go do some Byakko Extreme. Its an easy fight and give i355 weapons. From there on out you could do your weekling Ridonara to (try to) get i360 pieces of gear. There are also savage raids that you will be now equipped to do, v5s and v6s are accecible enough if you're not literally brain damaged. Finally just doing duties will give you Mendacities that can buy i360 gear, which can be upgraded later. Just make sure you dont waste those since they're capped weekly. And if you're in need of a better weapon (you are) go try and learn the new primal. She's easy and give i365 weapon which is next to top tier.

Yes. All jobs have a low skill floor because they feature rotations that a retard can just macro cast in order to get through a boss fight and nobody would be the wiser without using a parser or looking at their casts.

Then you've got the autistic fine tuning where absolutely everyone focuses on getting the most of their party in order to clear a really hard fight in half the time after using 5 LB3s within 6 minutes due to shields or they perform well enough to have both healers output 8k total dps due to the fact that the DPS aren't complete fucking idiots dying to dumb shit.

The HW MCH questline was alright, since it reminded me of every single sports movie from the 80's in an endearing sort of way, with the Machinists acting as the plucky underdog, but it was still pretty meh. >>14882047

>Curious Gorge

If you haven't done the WAR stuff yet I suggest it. They pun his name in everything, like the quest "Curious Gorge goes to Wineport" and so on.

The ARR quests for WAR are about exploring the background of what it means to be a warrior, why the warrior profession died out, how to bring it back, and the dangers of your Inner Beast, the font of warrior power, and specifically what happens when your beast takes control of you. It's probably the most "serious" of the three main parts of the WAR quest line, and reveals the backstory of WAR and why the job fell out of favor and eventually went extinct.

The HW quests are focused on bringing the teachings of the warrior to the marauder forces of Limsa Lominsa, and go into the key point of how a warrior tames the inner beast, and Gorge's journey in assuming full control over his. It's not as serious as ARR, but there are lots of manly Roegadyn bro moments, so it's fun in that regard.

Then for SB, it takes a more humorous turn as Gorge finds himself a waifu in the form of a Xaela girl named Dorgono (pic related) who was exiled because she had let her beast consume her and went on a rampage, resulting in a journey that led her to the west where she enlists into the marauders guild in an effort to learn how to control her beast. This leads into all sorts of ridiculous shenanigans including a fight where you beat a dude with love and axes. And all of this occurs within the framework of three frighteningly powerful individuals who are constantly a cunt hair away from popping off and murdering hundreds. This portion of the quest works best if you come at it from the perspective of the Hildibrand line, albeit with some rather frightening undertones what with all potential for democide and what not.

Fuck Eureka. This is potentially one of the worst though-out systems in an mmo ever created. You can't progress unless you're in a group. The only groups that exists, are the ones farming the fates. As a low level player, you don't get shit for being apart of the fates, so you don't level very quickly. If you die ONCE you lose all your progress because you can't get to the fates because all the mobs are level 20 and you're level 6. You could solo farm, but welcome to grinding for 50 hours just to get anywhere, and you'll never get a protean crystal to continue the storyline.

This stupid fucking system seems like it works when you have a steady stream of low-level players to clear mobs with, but is absolutely a nuclear trashfire of a system when everyone is level 20 and you're not.

I get the impression that they looked at WoW's Timeless Isle and wanted to emulate that in the worst way possible.

Timeless Isle, for those who don't know, was a max level area specifically for killing time and feeling productive when you weren't raiding or doing dungeons. Same as Eureka you can get gear upgrades and other stuff by participating in events on the island that could be seen as a precursor to FATEs. So similarly you will not be as successful when first arriving, but the mobs were still managable and your participation in these proto-FATEs wasn't a drop in the bucket rewarded with virtually nothing. The FATES were also timed so autists made addons to track them for better time management. You didn't have to kill mobs for 20 minutes just to get a FATE to trigger (which I like on paper, but is really fucking boring in practice). There's much I can't remember since this was MoP endgame we're talking about here, but I remember actually having fun.

My FC invites me to Eureka and I follow the train thinking I'm going to get to 20 in no time. Nope, 120-170 exp per FATE. I was half-way to lvl 2 after what felt like an eternity. I say that this is boring as shit just stand around doing nothing when putting a toe out of line will get you killed.

<You're getting carried so what are you complaining about? :)

I almost fucking lost it, but there's no point arguing with my FC full of faggots.

The icing on the cake was when I went to access and aetheryte and it said "lolno you have to be lvl 9". Fuck this and that fucking place I'm never going back.

Never trust the CGI trailers in this game.

You recall the old 1.0 trailer? With them in the tavern? That was set in Limsa Lominsa despite Limsa not looking anything like that.

Because work on that trailer began long before the rest of the game, so no story details were finalised and neither was the art direction for various city states. To make the Limsa tavern in that trailer they used some of the original concept art for Limsa Lominsa.

I suspect the Heavensward trailer is much the same as we see it putting forward a series of events that don't match up.

It doesn't really show the banquet in Ul'Dah and how you enter Ishgard doesn't match up either (though woulda made a good boss fight)

Taledji despite being a key player in the plot doesn't show up at all.

So I suspect that much like the 1.0 trailer it was made when there was minimal information available. Or at least it was started then. Perhaps even an old script for the beginning of HW.

With Stormblood they moved away from a story trailer to a showcase/spectacle trailer. Which makes sense as these kind of high grade CGI cinematics take a lot of time to make and you have to start long before the work they're representing is properly entering development.

You should have also mentioned the class differences between the WoL (which I find ill-fitting), the primals bursting out the Imperial warship Midgardsormr died cracking like some Shikon Jewel shard level anime shit, or even the Echo showing future events (which they've been smart enough to avoid).

However I think the fact that early concepts made it into these trailers reinforces my point that Lolorito was meant to play a larger role, then changes were made to the writing staff (or maybe they had a change of heart I dunno) so that aspect of the story got back-peddled and retconned. Something I am thankful for in the end.

>how you enter Ishgard doesn't match up either

I was originally going to respond that you just walk in with Alphinaud and Tataru, then my autism fixed itself to remember you were talking about the dragon attack on the bridge. Which would have been great since The Steps of Faith was just before this and seeing yet another dragon attack would have really sold the conflict of the expac well.

>>14889670

Jolt 2 and Impact really should have been just like Scatter/ Enhanced Scatter since I cannot conceive of ever wanting to cast Jolt 2 over Impact. The elemental spells at least has some use being separate. I've read you never want to lose an Impact proc, and while you should be managing your procs well, chances are you may still end up with all 3 at once, in that case I suppose it would be favorable to dualcast Impact and Thunder/ Aero for slightly more mana and potency.

However you can accomplish B with macros that work about 9/10 times.

/micon verfire

/macroerror off

/ac verfire <t>

/ac verthunder <t>

Is a basic macro that will display the button as Verfire so you know when it procs and will cast it rather than Verthunder when it does. On paper. In practice it gets mixed up every once in a while, or maybe I'm pressing the button too soon, and you will cast Verthunder instead of Verfire even when it's proc'd. I'm a lazy shit though and find them usable enough. The same macro can be applied to Jolt and Impact; Jolt specifically rather than 2 so the button still works when level synced.

>>14890515

>Jolt 2 and Impact really should have been just like Scatter/ Enhanced Scatter

Exactly. I'd keep them as two separate things because two different animations, but there's no reason they can't share a slot. I'm not even sure they have different animations, I play on a toaster with the effects turned almost all the way off. It just boggles my mind that Square adds QoL tech changes in one place and one place exactly and doesn't extrapolate them into other logical places. This combined with their reluctance to add anything meaningful to status tooltips just reinforces the fact that they don't want their game to be too game-y and they'd rather preserve it as a vehicle for cutscenes and cash shops.

Jolt 2 is an explosion that leaves a circlely rune thing as the light dies down.

Impact forms a red lotus that opens up and explodes.

A good fix for melee is if they were actually macroable. I tried making one for SAM, but it just doesn't work unless you put in wait commands which I'd rather not do. I actually didn't experiment with those commands, but I assume it would work.

I agree 100% with stat opacity. I had no idea what Direct Hit was or how it was meaningfully different than crit until I bothered to look it up once I approached endgame. I'm not even sure why it exists when you could just tweak crit tbh.

for the love of god, don't ever macro weaponskills/spells. there's no input queuing for macros so you can't quite ride your gcd using them.

Correct. Macroing combos is absolute bottom feeder shitter-tier for that reason and then some. I use the "standard" RDM spell macros and then some for 0GCDs that are usually used concurrently, but even then I acknowledge I'm a shitter for doing so since it's convenient, but somewhat restrictive, and the DPS loss on the rare occasion when they screw up could be avoided entirely. However I'm not really inclined to change it since the vast majority of the game is easy enough that it doesn't matter.

>direct hit

It used to be called "accuracy" and it was a stat without use once you had enough of it, but if you didn't have enough of it then it was a top priority stat, above everything else, even your primary stat to the point where using a lower ilvl item that allowed you to reach the accuracy threshold needed was preferable to using a higher ilvl item if it meant going under accuracy threshold for your class and it couldn't be made up via melds.

It was a horrible stat, as it didn't provide you any "benefit." Instead, it just brought you up to "normal" since it guaranteed a 100% hit rate instead having a 5-20% chance to miss based on your position relative to the facing of the boss. Also, you can just mouse over the stats on your character attribute screen for an explanation of what they do. It clearly states what each stat does, such as crit increasing both your rate of critical hits and the damage they deal, or spell speed lowering both the cast time of skills and your global recast timer aka GCD.

>It used to be called "accuracy"

You needn't have said anymore. That's the single worst stat in any RPG. I used to play Maple Story when I was a kid and it was especially egregious there.

>It clearly states what each stat does

Except it doesn't. Sure there's a clear difference between the definitions of Crit and Dhit, but that difference is never expounded upon. It does not state that Dhit is a static 25% damage increase.

To be fair I could have ruminated on it a bit longer and reasoned it out, but the main point I was getting at was what >>14890989 said about the tool tips not being very meaningful. I just mentioned my problem with Dhit's tooltip as another symptom of the problem.

Ah, I see what you mean, my bad. I think the general fog surrounding tooltips that this anon >>14893215 mentions is a symptom of Square being Square. Back in FF11 they had the same issue, and it seems as if Square, even back when they were Squaresoft, has always been allergic to providing concrete details like Blizzard typically does with it's games. I don't know exactly why this is, but I think it's to avoid or at least make it more difficult to do the min/maxing that often comes from knowing exact values. Even getting the aforementioned accuracy values was something that took a lot of time and data points from the player community to figure out what the new accuracy cap for each new raid tier was. Then I think SE finally came out and said "these are the accuracy modifiers for each class and position on a boss" sometime in late ARR or early HW.

But anyway, it's kind of annoying to Western audiences because - for the most part - we like to know that X is better or worse than Y and then understand why exactly this is happening via knowing what's going on under the hood. This of course leads naturally to min/maxed builds where you get a huge amount of build homogeneity, which is something SE works hard to try and avoid. For the most part, I think they're relatively successful in the sense that most classes tend to have a "best" secondary stat, but beyond that you flavor your builds to personal taste. There aren't many builds that are outright better than their counterparts. You can make a strong argument for Bard or Monk wanting to stack as much crit as possible, but after that you can build a few different ways. I've seen some BRD's go for DH over SkS or Det while others swear by Crit+SkS due to an increased number of regular attacks and lowered GCD. Tanks are another good example, as you can still find a lot of discussion over secondary stats and whether you should go all-in like with stacking Tenacity, or if a mix of crit/SkS or crit/DH or Crit/Det/SkS is better, with most of the answers coming down to "it depends on your raid comp and how the class feels."

Still, it's annoying for someone who doesn't keep up with all that stuff. On the one hand I'm glad they keep things kind of vague, cause I hated the "do this or you suck" all-or-nothing style from back in the WoW days, but on the other it also makes understanding of how these stats work a lot harder to infer. This of course has it's own benefit, since a good player will usually take the time to ask questions while a shitter will just copy the "best" build and never take the time to learn any nuance.

I hadn't even thought about it until you just said it, but yeah, that's Square's MO. I couldn't name every example, but the game that immediately came to mind was an old favorite of mine: Legend of Mana. Absolutely nothing that should have been explained at least somewhat was in that game. Unlocking skills, making golems, weapon tempering in particular was a science and a touch of fame went to Sean Kelson for pioneering advanced tempering techniques which other fans dubbed the Kelson Method. That in particular I always thought would make a wonderful basis for crafting in an mmo since you're not given any recipes and you really could become a master craftsman using secret techniques that you developed yourself.

In that regard I can understand wanting to keep some details muddled. For FF14 in particular I see it as focusing the player's attention on being able to do the mechanics well first before agonizing over stats. All that said I would still like a bit more transparency tbh.

Zero people working at Square have put that much thought into anything in this game. Doing gay shit to stats is a combination of incompetence, negligence, and actual malice since they don't want their game to get too game-y.

Honestly, I think I know where the MSQ is going.

Zenos is now that elezen guy, duh, but we never get to see the elezen's face, other then just his eyes really. They would only do this because they either want Zenos to join our company later, which is doubtful, or because he's walking around as an elezen we already knew. I'm convinced that the elezen in question, is that it's either going to be haurchefaunt, or look like haurchefaunt.

>>14916716

I wouldn't put it past them. If there's anything SE loves to do more than anything else, it's rehash old plot developments. Estinien being controlled not once, but twice, by Nidhogg is itself a reference to Kain Highwind being controlled by Golbez in a similar manner. In the first instance, both were done through mental manipulation plying their flawed personalities (Estinien's survivor guilt and disdain for his mentor, and Kain's broken heart over Rosa choosing his best friend over him and his disdain for Cecil, that same friend). In the second instance, both were done against the wills of the controlled characters, with Nidhogg overwhelming Estinien's body and taking it for himself, whereas Kain struggled to resist Golbez's will before breaking and falling in line. Both also suggest that their friends kill them once they've regained control of themselves.

As for why I'm convinced that it really is Estinien, it's because SE repeated this plot development in FF4's sequel, The After Years. Kain Highwind inexplicably betrays the town of Mysidia and sides with the new antagonist in that game. It's suggested that he's once again being controlled, but in his own story he asserts that he's fully in control of himself. It's eventually revealed that Kain attempted Klu Ya's trial and failed it so miserably that his Darkside (ex: Fray in FF14) broke free and is pretending to be him and trying to fulfill his darkest desires (namely murdering his best friend to have Rosa for himself). This comes to a head in Baron Castle where Kain openly accepts that his Darkside is part of him, recombining with it and becoming a Holy Dragoon. So I fully suspect we'll be seeing something like that with Estinien and Zenos. But it's a pretty big stretch, I'll admit. But it's about as much a stretch as Zenos's soul binding with the body of a dead Elezen thousands of malms away when there's plenty of dead and live bodies to be had near Ala Mhigo.

Either him or Huarchefant or potentially a lookalike.

Either is possible. Estenien I feel would be the more hack-writing gambit, while Haurchefant would work a bit more from a dramatic standpoint, since it's implied Haurchie had the hots for the WoL, and so does Zenos I get the feeling its estinien though, since the game has had him trailing the WoL throughout the xpack.

Then again, an Ascian possessed zenos' corpse after he chopped his own bloody head off, so logic has been thoroughly discarded.
