>pve game

>with no lootboxes that can be sold

>with no tradeable lootboxes

>with no keys

>still insists on lootboxes

>still forces you to pass through an end screen and click on all the 3 items you get to unlock em

>still forces you to clickity click on the damn box

Why does this happen in games that have no ties to the normal f2p buyable lootboxes ?

Is there some deep ritual to rewarding people with these sounds, so that they will keep going like suckers ? Or are some developers just retarded and putting extra time into dumb shit that does not affect their game in a good way ?

Example: Vermintide 2, forced to wait several screens of loading experience points a box dropping and being upraded, to clicking it and opening it then clicking 3 medals or icons to unlock your items.

Why go through the whole ritual of this ?

Why not just have heroes 3 treasures with choice ? This way it's just clicking around.

What other games do this ? Why ?

685957 No.14816566

>>14816548

Instant gratification and conditioning.

Same deal with slot machines having loud sounds and bright lights even when you don't win anything.

>Why?

It works.

Faggots on multiplayer games paying and defending this shit, so they copy them.

Modern "game" companies have turned into psy-ops, they hire specialists to exploit the weakness of our human brains to incite this addiction.

This is a direct consequence of games going mainstream, because now the userbase aren't treated as hobby enthusiasts, we are treated as cattle.

85d445 No.14816592

>>14816566

But in this case it is not instant gratification.

I got 3 items from this run. I want my items.

I'm forced to watch some exp loading and some box animations, then click here, then there and finally 3 times to get my items and the once on ok.

This whole process keeps me 6 clicks, several dumb animations and a few sounds from getting my loot.

It's the opposite of instant gratification, it just makes getting loot seems somewhat special, but once you are at your 20th run and above there is no reason for it whatsoever. Why keep it in the game at all ?

The problem here is that a cancerous practice- lootboxes, has been turned into some sort of dumb ritual.

>Example: Vermintide 2, forced to wait several screens of loading experience points a box dropping and being upraded, to clicking it and opening it then clicking 3 medals or icons to unlock your items. Why go through the whole ritual of this ?

Because it builds suspense which increases the endorphin release when something you want appears. This is a basic tactic used everywhere, from physical slot machines to Hearthstone forcing you to click to reveal cards from packs. In both cases you could instantly display the results but that would make it less enjoyable to those addicted to the rush.

Trying to convince normalfags that this system is exploitative is as pointless as trying to stop them from eating foods full of fats and sugars that their body is programmed to tell them to stock up on.

>>14816592

>exp loading

<represents progression, making you feel like it's not wasted time

<also adds the benefit of you wanting to "do one more map" so you can level up what little is remaining

>box animations

<anticipation…

<makes the user interact with it, so they feel they are doing their part winning what is inside the box

>and then my items

<that way you are conditioned to feel anticipation every time you gain a box

the use of mundane, repetitive tasks help with conditioning

The fact that it doesn't work on you means you have a stronger will than a normalfag, so congratulations on that.

Friendly reminder that every company working to turn you into a digital slave is working with other companies that rob you of happiness and fulfillment in the real world. This is all part of a long term plan, whether or not they realize it.

85d445 No.14816651

>>14816615

>makes the user interact with it, so they feel they are doing their part winning what is inside the box

Yeah but that interaction is linear. It has no meaning and can only give you one type of result. The clicking is just there for … like you said for conditioning.

Take heroes as a counter example. You get a treasure and you get to choose gold or experience, based on your needs. The choice actually matters. Here there is no choice. There is meaningless clicking.

If this becomes a large scale trend, looting basic stuff will become a chore.

Exactly, and then they add microtransactions so people will buy their way out of that chore.

We can see this happening with far cry 5, as a recent example.

Vermintide 2? Yeah, they've all but confirmed that they are actually going for "F2P" monetization for that game - they've actually confirmed that the game's "mod tools" are actually just going to be the tools for a Steam Workshop paid skins system.

I'm not going to defend Vermintide 2 after the devs killed their own game listening to reddit, but I haven't seen one shred of evidence for what you're claiming. And you show up virtually every time anyone even mentions the game like that FLAOT memer and say exactly the same shit every time.

>he refuses to take my class suggestion advice and plays berserker and then sharpshooter like a nonce, even buys the railgun even though i told him up and down it's an enormous piece of shit

>he enjoys it okay but still won't fucking listen when i tell him to play support or firebug or commando or something both fun and viable lvl 1

And the more relevant part

>after playing sharpshooter he spends money on 2 keys for the crates he got with steam funny money because he got good drops from the vault (something worth like 40 bucks somehow but you can't sell vault-found items)

>before this even happens we both agree that the vault must boost drops to give players a false impression and that this is basically gambling

>predictably, he gets jack and shit

>he has also made good funny money by selling good plebg crates (like all of his purchase price good)

>but the stupid faggot has spent over 25% of that trying to gamble with plebg crates

People told me this shit was to go away.

976d91 No.14816933

Sidenote: i will never buy plebg, just to make that clear. I think it's trashy fun but not worth more than 10 dollars at most, but I would feel bad paying that to the queers that sell it. Gunplay is dogshit and the game itself is more or less gambling even at a basic level.

The mystery of what's in the box and giving you the responsibility of clicking to open it activates happy brain chemicals more than if they just gave you the items straight. It's fake fun. Same category of shit as achievements and the hit indicator "tick" noise in COD.

The golden keys and chest are entirely separate from the regular loot system, you can't really buy golden keys though but if you consider every aspect of it it's basically lootboxes.

Basically you have a chest in the main safe area that only drops high-tier equipment that is the same level as you, but to open it you use a key each time, only way to get keys is to either have bought some of the DLCs or to have participated in the gearbox datamining program o just edit the cleartext file that says how many key you have, I might be wrong but I do think there's also a skin part that is exclusive to it.

I am so fucking tired of all these fucking mind tricks in videogames. It's not just lootboxes, but all slot machine mechanics. Also daily quests and achievements. It's all fucking bullshit. I don't want any of it in my vidya. It's gotten to the point where even if I actually like a game, I just can't play it if it's infested with any of this shit.

Lootboxes are probably the worst offender here. I don't care if it's p2w or just cosmetic, or even not monetized at all. It's all equally insulting. The game assumes that you're just gonna love seeing a flashy animation and getting to click shiny things. Just no. Give me the loot or fuck off. I will not let you patronize me like this.

Not mad, just don't understand how that of all things is what turns him away from a game he was thinking of playing. There's so much shit in the game that's genuinely bad too, but a couple seconds spent on post mission rewards is somehow the deal-breaker. Either he knew absolutely nothing about the game and was considering buying it, which is retarded by any measure, or he was well informed of the game and was accepting of everything else that was in it except the reward mechanic. Even then, not playing a modern game you want to play because of some little thing you don't like is also pretty retarded when every one has some cancerous bullshit in it, disregarding the fact that you actually want to play modern video games.

You are actually playing the game by defeating the boss and traveling to town (then deciding whether or not to have it identified by an npc). These are actions decided upon by the player, getting to a screen and watching animations is not.

I wasn't arguing, I was insulting. He's a little bitch making bitchy decisions for bitchy reasons. If you are not going to play a game, do so because the mechanics themselves are flawed or the developers have absolutely no idea what they are doing and keep breaking everything, not because you are an impatient cunt who needs his loot now.
