In all seriousness, this was pretty fucking cool and ambitious. Such a car would revolutionize travel and physical interaction forever, maybe even put nearly every fucking airlines out of business now that the average middle class family can fly all the way to other countries for regular vacation. Even long distance relationships could potentially become a nonissue. But the best kind of fuel would definitely get a rush to be claimed in no time and then there's a whole new dimension of preventing vehicular manslaughter or straight up war crimes.
The problem is if it would actually be prone to this kind of catastrophic malfunction. If this scenario is somehow realistically programmed in, that must mean something goes beyond J U S T the second it merely retracts its wheels like any other plane. Maybe something in the car is forced to go "Fuck this shit" and it rejects the plane parts someone stupidly tried to shove in there with it.
