I'm a brainlet and too stupid to play these games. Plus the graphics are shit.

How did you learn how to play this game? Of all the games that are out there I think this one has the complexity and accuracy of capturing the Eastern Front.

I care not for the graphics, it's the learning curve that's fucking daunting, however if I can learn it then I could lead my troops to crush Bolshevism.

Since Command Ops I got sick and done with hex based wargames, there's no reason for them anymore

>How did you learn how to play this game?

I honestly don't know, I've played it for years and never had to really think about that question. I guess trial and error

a29387 No.14799093

I tried getting into Grigsby's games but they're way too expensive where I live and don't go to sale often, also pirated versions are very outdated

>>14799082

Well do you have any tips? I've always wanted to play these games since they look like they have crazy depth and emergent gameplay but they're both expensive and intimidating. Even a starter buyers guide or something would be handy.

>Well do you have any tips? I've always wanted to play these games

It's like playing any RPG or turn based strategy game. Expect every turn or round is a week, and every week you must crush Bolshevism. All the "complicated" gameplay details are figured out while playing, and if you're having fun you'll figure it out easy.

I've been playing some of the smaller scenarios as practice before I actually start a full campaign. Road to Minsk is good because it's only three turns. Also, if you can bear it, read through the manual. This pdf is only the tutorial manual, a measly 40 pages, you'll want the 400 page one.

>Road to Minsk

Road to Leningrad is also good too, IIRC it's a bit longer so you can play around with stuff

>>14799766

One more thing to note:

Germans force the enemy to retreat if CV is 2:1

Soviets force the enemy to retreat if CV is 1:1

This is passingly mentioned in one section of the big manual and is actually quite important.

I searched everywhere for a link for his games a while ago, you won't be able to find one to a current version. The demand for this kind of games are extremely small so no one cares to crack them

IGG Games has it.

nice, cheers bud.

for anyone grabbing it from IGG, the only working link is the google drive one. It has patches up to 1.0.4.22

and there's an uploader called GEVD who has patches to 1.0.6.11 and the Don to the Danube

One of the VNs I got from IGG had a bitcoin miner in the installer. Luckily they did a fucking terrible job of trying to hide it. Just use a private tracker or a decent public one you faggots.

I just watched an entire 40 minute video about a German guy talking about the basics of the game and then he shows a 300+ page manual. The amount of people that knows how to play this game must be less than a 100. This game reminds me of another turn based hex war game. I don't remember the title though because the author just put his name on it. I wonder if it's by the same people.

There actually is a great learning resource to use for learning the game, reading after action reports on the gary grigsby forums from players who compete against each other. Generally each turn is narrated so new players can see the rational for each gameplay option.

a713a2 No.14803913

Shame that this game isn't talked about on /gsg/. Even hearts of iron 3 is too complex for them. This game looks a lot better. I went to the developer website (http://www.2by3games.com) and saw there that one of the developers was doing interviews which is what I'm watching now https://hooktube.com/watch?v=JARauQklGR4

I just finished watching the second interview on his founding of a game company called SSI (doesn't exist anymore) which finished their first game on late January 1980. I had no idea that these guys have been making war games for that fucking long.

This game looks interesting, but considering I'm glad to be able to play entry-level-hex-wargame Unity of Command, I have log way before me. Currently trying clear the Leningrad mission during Barbarossa.
