I has been a long time since I played Tenchu, but I think the Rikimaru you play with is Rikimaru's shadow or some shit like that. Just an excuse to "kill" him a have him back later, basically the real Rikimaru has almost fan fiction level of power.

The only Tenchu game From developed themselves was so bad it killed the series, plus, the last thing Tenchu fans want is the fucking festering cancer that is the souls community crawling all over the series, whining and moaning about how it's too hard because you have to do more than spam 2 buttons or that it doesn't play IDENTICALLY to DS1/BB. If sdtwice turns out to be Tenchu with souls combat I'll probably kill myself.

Luckily that script in the background is Heian; the only game From made set in the Heian era, hell one of the only games ever made set in the Heian era, is Kuon, and since 'twice' indicates a first sequel I highly doubt it'll be Tenchu.

I'm pretty sure From has the IP and would have no legal issues making a new Tenchu, but the older games are an mess of publishing rights since different regions had different publishers with different deals set up with both the current and former IP holders with differing dates and limitations. It's possible there may also be some characters owned by K2 or Acquire from when they were licensed that may not be directly owned by From, depending on what was written into their license agreements.

Honestly it's better to hope for Acquire to make a Shinobido 3, but considering I don't think they've made a real game since 2011 I'm not sure that's likely. I made an abortive attempt to figure out what was going on inside Acquire a couple of years ago but they're a very opaque company; they're working with Squeenix now on Octopath Traveller but I'm pretty sure the staffing situation at Acquire now is very different to when they were working on the WotS and Shinobido series.

Great fucking documentary. Would also recommend Sayonara Speed Tribes. It's a documentary about a guy who used to be a bosozoku and later Yakuza. Pretty interesting, especially if you like bosozoku.

Fromsoft didn't develop Wrath of Heaven you shrivel-brained homo, they published it. K2 developed Wrath of Heaven. Fromsoft only developed 1 Tenchu game themselves and it was so bad it killed the series outright.

I killed all the bosses by memorizing where the dropping platforms into water were and just stood a bit away from them. They all ran straight for it and it was hilarious.

Still a 10/10 game in my book since it's nothing but fun.
